To all you Barney Miller fans at SO who have the Season 1 DVD: what are some of your favorite episodes, moments, or quotes from that season?
Personally, I find it a little hard to call any episode without Dietrich a favorite{}, but even considering that, I found myself laughing all the way through "The Stakeout", from Wojo's "Karate Kid" routine to the landlord who thinks Barney and Fish are a couple --
Landlord: How long have you two been living together?
Fish (completely deadpan): Since the first moment we laid eyes on each other!
-- to the endless parade of visitors, including the first appearance of Bernice Fish, and the unforgettable final scene of Barney racing downstairs in a bath towel to stop a robbery.
I also got a kick out of Harris and "The Courtesans" dancing through their Miranda rights and the boys getting the safe open in "Snow Job":
Yemena: It's one to the left, two to the right, three to the left, four to the right.
Fish: And that's the way you do the Varsity Drag!
There was one not-so-funny moment that got to me; actually the entire episode "The Hero". Gregory Sierra should definitely have gotten an award for that one.

My favorite moment in the fist season DVD was from a scene from the episode "HAIR" when Chano tells Harris to take a message from these two women and just in case the second one calls as well..Chano response it just funny and Harris looks too beautiful for words as well...;)

My favorite moments is from the episode "Snow Job" when Barney was trying to hide his emotion when somebody else got that promotion to Dep. Inspector...He's slammed the door and the glass on the door breaks...I called it a great comedy gag to which it had been done before by other great comedy from the past.

I bought the Season 1 dvd on sunday. I wasn't too impressed with the 2 episodes I saw when I got the free dvd in total cereal back in January. After watching several season 1 episodes, I can honestly say that this is a pretty good show. The only thing I don't care for in the 1st season is Mrs. Miller. She just didn't seem to have any chemistry with Barney. The Inspector and Fish crack me up. The characters who get arrested are never dull. I also like the realism on this show. Also, is it just me or are 2 of the episodes edited?

Sony (Columbia) has a history of including edited episodes on VHS/DVD Collections such as Barney Miller VHS (at least 4 episodes), Soap VHS (1 episode), Soap DVD (2 episodes).
For TV series of the seventies (including Barney Miller and Soap), if the episode runs about 25 minutes it is uncut; if it is more like 22 minutes it is the syndication version.
What is curious about the cereal DVD is that not only is the first episode ("Tunnel") edited (of course), but it also has the closing credits of an episode ("Atomic Bomb") not on the DVD!
