Yeah, that's what I heard a while ago. I know all the reasons why he quit the show.
But why was he so embarrassed to be on Full House?

But why was he so embarrassed to be on Full House? I don't know. Might have been because in past years, it's came off as a 'kiddy' show, but my guess is that its just a rumor.

can you really blame the guy?

I think it's just a rumor but I wouldn't blame him if he was. It might've affected his "image". But he shouldn't be though, it made him a very big star!

I heard he wanted to go for more serious roles. That was why when WB network wanted a 9th season of Full House John did not want to do another season. Plus 8 years the show definitely ran its course. He was proud of Full House, especially the first five years.

I don't blame him. I would be emarassed too if I were on FH. He was probably embarassed that he was on a kids show.

There was an interesting piece on the General Sitcoms board, regarding Nick@Nite ratings:

- The family comedy Full House (Sun.-Thu. 9 p.m. ET/PT) continues to draw viewers, posting a 0.6/659,000, up +20% in rating and +30% in delivery among Adults 18-49. Full House averaged 2.4 million persons 2+, a rise of +30% over last year in total viewers.

Very interesting to see a +30% in 18-49 year olds. That means either new adults have been tuning into the show, or many people who watched it as kids have been getting back into it. So it looks like it's holding out well for adults :)

He didn't quit the show it got canceled. Many actors feel that way about a famous show because some people can't get past that character. Like when you see a pic of John Stamos you think of Uncle Jesse first and then John Stamos.

the show was cancelled because Stamos wouldn't do another season. That's what I heard anyway.

I hope it's a rumor that he's embarrased to have done that show, cause I think it would be sorda ungrateful, for FH was really the big break for him.

According to an answer in WPIX's "Full Day of Full House Marathon" trivia:

The "Full House" series was supposed to come back for year 9... But John Stamos called it quits, so the creators of the show had to make the two-part season finale of year 8... Into the finale.

John Stamos is the kind of guy who is on these shows that are bad. Seeing himself on Full House probably would make him be embarssed, because it is kind of kiddyish.

I could see him being embaressed since the show is kiddish. Even if it didn't embarese him he probably felt it was not the image he wanted.

I've heard that about Stamos. I've also heard that they wanted to just take one of the Olsen twins and MA and Kate's mom didn't want them to do that, so they decided to cancel the show.
Personally, I think they should've just gone with season 9 and make that a "Series Finale" season.

I don't think he was embarrassed back when he was actually on it, but he's more embarrassed now. I'm not even sure if embarrassed is the right word. I think the word upset fits here. It happens to many stars that play this character roles on a popular sitcom. They get typecast and can't get the serious roles. They don't think about it at the time because they are having fun, making money, becoming famous. They also don't think about when they are done with the show. Although, imo, if you look at the adults if any of them are going to break their typecasting it will be Stamos and Loughlin. But, that still doesn't mean it will be easy for them or even possible.

And John Stamos, if they ever do a reunion you better join in, because not being there could hurt your career even more!

With all the money Stamos made he shoudn't have been too embarrassed but on the other hand if being a serious actor was his plan, he shouldn't have stayed on so many years....Personally I think Full House is too sugary and much too sweet and syupy and also very unrealistic...

With the Olsens, that was in the earlier seasons. Maybe after the first or second? ...I'm not positive, I'd have to go back and read about it, but that wasn't the reason the show ended.

I don't believe that it was John Stamos either. TV Stations can be wrong too...I can't count how many times I see different stars' birthdays and bios wrong on several different things (magazines, news, internet). I'm not completely ruling it out, but I believe since the show was canceled by ABC that everyone on the show thought it was time for quits. The Olsens were a huge hit and were busy with other things and I'm sure everyone else wanted to try new things out as well. Not to mention the crew probably thought it was time for the show to be over. Who knows, it could've been the Olsens that wanted the show to be over...I've read (and it could very well be a false source) but that they wanted to leave the show and work on other things, that Full House was tying them down. Or maybe John suggested that the show wrap up, not quiting, but suggesting....and with that he could've got the bad name for saying it was his fault.

As for John being embarassed, sure, maybe at times. Why not? We all have times of embarassment. I don't think he'd be embarassed so much by the show as he is with some of the things he did on there. And he probably hates people calling him Uncle Jesse. He had just come off a soap opera and he was thrilled to have the part. I think if anything he's probably just disappointed that in the end he was typecasted. But I think if he is embarassed he'll get over it soon, he's been doing a lot of work lately...so he'll appreciate being on Full House because he wouldn't have had the life he did without it, or the new roles he's getting now. Remember, everything happens for a reason.

Stamos will eventually come to appreciate Full House once he retires (it always happens), but if he's still trying to land roles right now, it's gotta be difficult to live down "Uncle Jesse". The same thing happened with the cast of Saved by the Bell.

As for another season, I think it went a season too long. Nicky and Alex being brought in (the ones with girly hair, not the original infants), DJ/Stephanie going through adulthood/puberty, and Michelle growing up really hurt that show. Everyone wants to preserve the memories, but once the actors get to a certain age, the magic is gone. That's how the last season felt to me.

Yep it's true, I read somewhere that John hates it when people refer to him in anyway as having been "Uncle Jesse". He's most definitely embarassed to have been on the show.

He was NOT at all embarrassed to be on Full House. He was, and still is, very proud of it's success. He just didn't want to be typecast as one character, that's why he's done some of the roles he has, so people don't see him as just one character. He's also not the reason the show got cancelled.

I've also seen for myself a few times in recent years people call him Uncle Jesse and he smiles and laughs.
