That "Kate & Allie" debuted.
I don't recall watching the series as a mid-season replacement in the early part of 1984, but only when it became part of the CBS main lineup in the autumn of the 1984-85 season.
In watching repeats I know that a young Kelsey Grammer appeared in one of the very first K&A episodes.
What a great show. I was a fan almost immediately, and stayed until the end.

I agree this was a great show!
Wow, that's pretty neat when you think about it...20 years...
Yeah, Kelsey did appear in a first season ep, and it was an hysterical one at that! In fact, all 6 first season eps were top notch! They were some of the last that Oxygen showed last fall...geez, I wish they'd put this back on the air in reruns...

Grammer looks the same as a man in his late 20's as he does as a man pushing 50. (He looked older even when he was younger).
I have not spent 10 minutes on the Oxygen network since they ended "Kate & Allie". I have almost forgotten what channel they are on my cable system.
Bad, bad move by them. :(

I didn't know this show only had 6 episodes in its first season. It did pretty well considering: It was an emmy nominee for best comedy series and both actresses got nominated and Curtin and Bill Persky the director both won. Plus it was the only sitcom in that year's top 10. Not bad at all for a 6 episode run.
