Just curious - if I'm reading your post correctly....that you will send 1 blank tape for someone else to copy the episodes you want and pay for the postage for them to return it to you?

If that is so, you probably will not get any offers....

It takes equipment, electricity, gas to get to the post office, and most valuable of all - time.

Nannyfan is right. The very least I would do something like this for would be some blank tapes. If you really need something you probably shouldn't declare the rules on your terms and then expect people to jump right up with the goods. JMO though

I raised my eyebrows on this one, too. Personally, I would more than like do this for someone I'd already established a trading relationship with. Otherwise I wouldn't.

I agree. And the rules typed in caps makes even more of a turn off. This is basically saying, "I want everything, and well, um, you get nothing out of it."

If there is a board that has people who tape stuff for free - and all that I have to do is send a tape and pay for mailing it back to me - I'd like to be a member of that board!! There's lots of stuff I'd like to get for free:p

I'll say Wow. This thread is unbelievable. The question is this: what, exactly, is FAIR about the other person being out time, effort and capital investment for zero in return? That's what I'd like to know.

I cannot believe you are going to leave the boards over this post. If you weren't getting a response we suggested reasons as to why that might be. I don't have the video in question but if I did I wouldn't have even offered it up because of the tone of the initial post.

I'm sure we are all thrilled that you have plenty of people to do this for you - but we were just stating that there are many people who won't. If you had a lot of people to do this for you, finding this video shouldn't have been all that hard, no?

I think, based on other posts I've read, that this person is quite young (like, not even a teenager yet). I may have him/her confused with someone else but I'm pretty sure this is the same person.

In the tape trading world, there is give and take. The fact that all you were wanting to do is to "take" struck some people here, including myself, which didn't sound fair. To be honest, I'm surprised that you've found people to make tapes for you for what you're asking, but I suppose perhaps most of those are friends you've established on this board.

I'm very sorry to hear that your feelings have been hurt. I have children around your age, so believe me when I say this, as well as being a sensitive person by nature. And I agree with you that $25 for a tape is unfair. That is ridiculous. But to expect something for nothing isn't fair either.

Perhaps if you offered several blanks for one in return you'd get more nibbles on your requests and less criticism. Also, when you use capital letters it means emphasis, and some even think of it as yelling. A bit of honey goes a lot farther than vinegar.

Burnett Fan, I also agree that $25 is overcharging for something that is not a studio or factory release. I also agree with the other members of the board in saying that doing a freebie, with nothing in return, is not worth doing.

I usually try an trade first. If I have to sell, it depends on how many tapes in the set, wether the person wants them in EP or SP mode, and if they belong to a tape trading board I am a member of. I then try an find a fair price that is both cost effective for my time, and cost freindly to the person interested in buying.

Remember you can catch more flies with honey then with vinegar.

To Carol Burnett Fan: Don't get upset over what you see on this board:wave: Agent 13 is giving you some good advice about offering blank tapes in exchange for stuff you want. Lots of people will accept 2 blanks in exchange for 1 tape of something you want - depending on how many episodes you are asking for. You have to keep in mind that lots of people on this board are busy people (not that you aren't;o) - and taping usually takes away from their family time and other things they need to do while they are off work. Try really hard to write your messages and then re-read them and think about what you are trying to say before you actually post them so you will not get responses you don't think you deserve. Typing capital letters is the same as shouting at someone and you can be sure people will not like it - especially when you are the one needing a favor. And - most important - make sure that if you do work out a deal with someone on the internet you run it by an adult you trust to make sure you don't end up getting taken advantage of. This board is really a fun place to hang out and like you said - it is a great escape from reality and all of the cruel kids at school - I remember those days well and peer pressure!! UGH!! I wouldn't want to go through that again at all!! I'm a red head with freckles so I'm sure you can realize how much torture I suffered during my youth!! Stick around on the board for a bit longer...try to restate a new offer if you can - and do not be offended if you work out a deal with someone and they tell you that you have to send first. That's just the way it works when you are the one asking for a trade. :wave:

Hey Jonathan I know we haven't talked much but I have seen your posts. You are very mature for being an 11 year old and you know quite alot about television. I don't think anybody meant to cause you harm. They were just giving you suggestions. I agree $25 is to much. I hope you don't leave the boards.
