okay, so I'm bored, on Spring Break, and lonely, lol. HERE'S a new fic, even tho I have like three others going, lol.

Candace DeLorenzo waddled her way through the Division doors one warm spring Monday morning. Her hair was tucked loosely around a ponytail holder and small whispies outlined her face. Her baggy black dress slacks drug the ground a tad, for she’d bought them a size too big. Her shirt that wasn’t new, but from her skinnier days, clung tightly around her breasts and spread out over her stomach. Her hips were fuller and her face chubbier.

Nate saw her wriggle through the tight squeeze of the doors, and he ran to her. “Good morning, partner!” he exclaimed as he put his hand on her belly and gently caressed it.

CD smiled. “Good morning, Nate. How are you this morning?”

He grinned broadly. “How could I be anything but excellent?!” he proclaimed as he quickly kissed her belly (a ritual she’d become accustomed to since the day he found out she was pregnant) and pointed out the window. “It’s absolutely gorgeous today, CD! We have to eat lunch outside! Please?” he pleaded to her.

She rolled her eyes but smiled. “Sure, we’ll eat lunch outside today.”

“Great!” he exclaimed as they both walked to her desk; she sat down in her seat, and he sat down on her desktop. “So how was your weekend?”

CD shrugged. “Oh, it wasn’t too bad. I painted some in the nursery, went grocery shopping,” she paused and pointed at her dragging trousers, “bought more maternity clothes, the usual.”

He grinned. “Those are some nice pants,” he teased her. “Trying the gangsta look?”

She laughed. “Yeah, I wanted to fit in with some of the people we arrest.”

He laughed. “So Luke helped you with that painting and shopping, right?”

“Um, no, actually he didn’t,” CD replied. “He had to work late both nights last weekend, so I did it.”

“By yourself?!” Nate shouted. “CD DeLorenzo, you do NOT need to be sniffing paint and pushing a cart all by yourself!”

“Fine, next time Luke calls and says he won’t be home until late, I’ll be SURE to call you and make you sniff paint with me. Deal?”

Nate grinned. “Deal!”

She shook her head but kept a goofy grin on her face while Kate came out with morning assignments.

“Gross, Nate, you know I can’t handle that!” CD frowned and pointed to her belly.

Nate rolled his eyes. “DUH, CD! You can sit in the car with your feet propped and look at the sun, while I investigate!” he exclaimed happily. He thought it was the best plan; he
didn’t like when CD had to work too hard, in her condition and all.

“Nate, you’re ridiculous! I don’t need to sit; I’m fine!”

Jinny groaned. “Another day of bickering over what’s better for the fat lady,” she grumbled.

“HEY!” Both CD and Nate shouted.

“Oops, sorry, I thought that was under my breath,” Jinny smirked.

CD smiled. “Shut up, Jin!”

Kate shook her head. “ANYWAY,” she handed CD a file. “Here’s the homicide case; you want to help Nate, help him. If you want to sit in the car and not risk puking, do that. Any questions?”

“NOPE!” Nate announced as he grabbed CD’s purse for her and hustled her out.

“But I don’t WANT to do this case!” she whined as he opened the door for her.

“Good, so sit in the car; you can do my paperwork when I’m finished solving it,” he teased her as he slid in next to her.

CD slugged his arm. “Shut up, smartass,” she commented but grinned. “And I’m getting out, looking at that body, and THEN I’m going to puke all over YOU!”

He winked at her. “Can’t wait for that, baby!”

She rolled his eyes. “Only in your sick, twisted dreams, Inspector.”

“So what’s up with Luke and CD?” Magda asked back at the Division.

Jinny shrugged. “I don’t know, she still talks about him a little but only if someone asks. She seems happy, though, don’t you think?”

Magda nodded. “Yeah, she seems really happy. Nate’s so cute with her! I love how he kisses her belly every single day.”

Raina joined in. “Oh my gosh, I know!” she giggled. “HE should be the one painting nurseries with her!”

Kate laughed as she walked out of her office. “Inspectors, did you misunderstand the directions to your case?”

Jin laughed. “No, Cap, we’re on it,” she replied as her and Mag grabbed their stuff and left.

CD tried her best at playing hardball when they found the alley the dead hooker was lying in.

“So you didn’t see anyone with her before this?” Nate asked the witness.

CD gagged over her hand. I’m not going to puke, she convinced herself.

Nate continued asking questions until the woman needed a moment to get herself put back together. He turned to CD. “You alright?”

She rolled her eyes. “I’m FINE, Nate,” she said and started her own investigation with the witness.

After the mini interrogation, CD and Nate walked back to the car and got in.

“CD, you sure you’re alright?” Nate asked again.

“I’m perfectly fine, Nate. I can still handle my job,” CD remarked.

Nate nodded and started driving. “Sorry I keep checking; I just don’t want to hurt your baby.”

CD grinned. “My baby is fine, I promise,” she paused and looked at the little cafe approaching. “Hey, can you pull over at that little diner?”

Nate smiled and pulled over. “You got a craving?”

CD smiled weakly back. “No, not food; I have to go throw up now,” she finally admitted to him and walked quickly to the main entrance.

Nate frowned. “Damn woman, never gives up,” he muttered and followed indirectly behind her.

CD was hurled over a toilet when Nate barged his way in.

“Dammit, CD!” he exclaimed and ran over to her. He grabbed the front pieces of her hair back to prevent puke-stained streaks. “You shouldn’t have went in that alley.”

“I’m <<puking>> a <<puking>> damn <<throwing up>> COP!” she exclaimed as she threw up everything she’d eaten for the past week, or so it seemed like to her.

After she finally finished, CD exhaustedly sat down on the floor. Nate went to the paper towel dispenser and wet some for her.

“Thanks,” she replied after he handed it to her.

Nate nodded. “CD, I’m so sorry; I shouldn’t have taken the case. We should’ve stayed inside; I just wanted to be out in the great weather.....”

CD smiled. “Nate, I know; it’s alright, I’ll be fine,” she told him.

CD sat there for a couple of minutes and gathered up enough energy to announce, “Alright, I’m good again. We can get back to work now.”

Nate nodded and held out a hand, lifting her up from the floor.

“Thanks,” she replied, and they walked through the bathroom door.

Nate was leading the way and held the door for her. He turned, but she was no longer behind him. He looked around and grinned.

CD was at the counter ordering desserts to go.

She took her seat back in the car and immediately fished out a fork and dug into her pie.

“Hey, do I get one of those pieces?” Nate begged.

“Oops, I’m sorry, I didn’t get you any,” CD apologized and ate the rest of her peanut butter pie and moved on to the cherry one.

“You’re going to eat all THREE pieces?!” Nate exclaimed.

CD nodded. “I’ve got a growing human being in me; I need lots of nutrients,” she grinned and told him.

CD opened her last box. A huge piece of chocolate cake enveloped in chocolate icing sat in front of her.

Nate happened to glance over. “Oh my gosh,” he murmured.

“What? What is it?” she asked him, alarmed.

“CHOCOLATE cake?” he asked sadly.

She grinned and cut a huge bite for herself and ate it. “Mmmm,” she closed her eyes and enjoyed the taste.

“You’re a bitchy pregnant woman, you know that?” Nate unhappily told her.

CD smiled and sliced another bite off the hunk. “Now, now, Nate, don’t be crabby,” she replied and forked the bite to his mouth. She cupped her hand under his chin to prevent any mess and fed him some of her cake.

“Yuuuum,” Nate commented as he swallowed. “That was great cake. Thank you!”

She grinned and ate some more. “You’re welcome.”

“So do I get another bite?” he put on his best puppy dog face.

“Uh uh!” CD announced and ate some more.

Nate frowned and sighed, watching her eat it.

CD grinned devilishly and forked the last piece. “Open up, ya big baby,” she smiled and held onto his chin again and fed him her last bite of cake.

Jin and Mag were closing up a case at 6 and getting ready to head out.

CD and Nate had finished up some paperwork and interviewed a couple of stores by the alleyway of the dead woman.

“CD, it’s time for you to go home,” Nate told her and looked at his watch. “Our shift is up, and you need your rest.”

CD rolled her eyes. “Nate, I’m fine. I’m going to finish up my last report, and I’ll be out of here, okay?”

Nate nodded. “Okay. You and Luke going out tonight?”

CD shook her head. “Nah, he’s working till 9, so I’m going home and probably fix a box of macaroni or something.”

“No way!” Nate proclaimed. “We can go get something if you want. I don’t want you eating mac and cheese all by yourself.”

“I think I can handle it, Nate,” she smiled. “Besides, I’m too tired to go out tonight.”

“Well, I can come over and cook you something? If you don’t think Luke would mind.”

“Luke wouldn’t mind, but I don’t really feel like company tonight,” she explained. “I’m sorry.”

Nate grinned. “No problem,” he replied as they walked out together.

CD walked to her car, and Nate followed. She sat down and fastened her seatbelt.

“See ya tomorrow,” Nate said.

CD nodded. “I’ll be here.”

Nate grinned and held onto the door and waited for her to drag her foot in, so he could shut the door for her. “When you get home, lock the door and put the chain on.”

CD smiled and saluted him. “Yes, Sir,” she replied.

Nate grinned and shook his head. “Night,” he said and shut the door.

CD beamed as she started the car and drove away. “Goodnight, Nate.”

CD pulled into her apartment building’s parking area and got out. She walked to her door, opened it, and followed Nate’s orders--she put the chain on and locked the door behind her. She dug out a box of macaroni and started boiling the water for it, preparing for another night of loneliness.

Nate got to his apartment an hour and a half later, with his hands full of shopping bags. He went inside, sat the food bags down in the kitchen, and then he walked to his spare room and put the other two bags in a stack by the wall. The stack was piling up, he thought to himself happily, as he put his new findings in the different groupings-- sleepers, toys, diapers, and things CD could use for her baby. He grinned to himself, shut off the light, and left to fix himself something quick, so he could go to bed.

The next day at the Division, Nate had started more files and paperwork for their homicide case by the time CD walked through the door.

He was fully engrossed in his findings and didn’t hear her behind him until she spoke.

“Damn overachiever, what time did you get here this morning?” CD’s voice boomed behind him, teasing him.

Nate grinned and turned around. “Good morning to you, too,” he replied and smiled, kissing her belly hello as well.

“Morning,” she smiled and took a seat. “Find any leads?”

He shook his head. “Nah. I thought I did, but they didn’t pan out.” he shrugged. “We’ll get ‘em though.”

She nodded and looked through his findings.

Kate came out of her office. “Nate, he hit again, Popular and 7th Street-- another hooker.”

Nate wrote down the address. “We’re on it,” he replied and looked at CD, who frowned. “CD, you stay here. I’ll take down the notes we need.”

She shook her head. “No, I can handle it, Nate,” she told him.

“No you can’t, and you know that,” he replied. “STAY,” he replied with a little more charge in his voice.

CD frowned, sat back down and glanced over at Jinny. “Jin, can you go with Nate?” she asked quietly.

Jinny nodded reassuringly. “Sure, I’ll go,” she replied as she picked up her coat. “Looking at a dead hooker first thing in the morning gets my juices going anyway,” she smiled to CD and left with Nate.

CD grinned a little, cursed under her breath from knowing she couldn’t handle it, and looked back up. Kate was staring back at her.

“What was that?” Kate raised an eyebrow to her.

CD sighed. “Cap, I can’t do it anymore. I can’t look at dead bodies right now; it’s too much.”

Kate nodded. “You should’ve told me yesterday, CD.”

“I know, but I didn’t want to upset Nate,” CD frowned. “I didn’t want to leave him all by himself so early in my pregnancy.”

Kate smiled. “I understand that, but Nate’s a big boy, CD. He can handle things on his own for awhile.” she grinned. “Besides, you’re five months along; I think that’s a little more than early in your pregnancy,’”

CD frowned. “I know, I just didn’t want pulled from the street yet,” she explained. “I don’t think I can handle 4 months at a desk.”

“You’re not going to be here for four more months, Inspector,” Kate smiled. “We want that baby healthy and strong!”

“Me, too,” CD nodded.

“So maternity leave is in the future?” she teased her.

“Hell no!” CD responded.

Kate laughed and altered the subject. “So how’s the daddy?”

“Luke?”

Kate laughed. “Well, unless he’s not the daddy, yes,” she teased her.

CD nodded. “Yeah, at our house.” CD looked at her files. “But, anyway Cap, I’m pretty busy here with the paperwork and all......”

“Oh yeah, sorry, get back to work,” Kate replied and walked towards her office. “CD, if you ever need to talk--about dead hookers or anything--” Kate winked. “I’m all ears.”

CD smiled. “Thanks, Kate.”

Nate and Jinny made it back a couple of hours later to show CD the new patterns. They worked together until shift ended, coming up with possibles, suspects, and leads. CD signed out a little after 6, while Nate and Jinny stayed until almost 8.

“Nate, that’s it!” Jinny shouted and looked at the paper in her hand.

“What?” he asked. “What’s it?”

“Both witnesses mention an on-duty guard working at the bank across the street, and BOTH times Detective Camby was working.”

“Let’s go get him!” Nate exclaimed.

Kate held up her hand. “Whoa, that’s too coincidental, Inspectors. You don’t have probable cause, you’re just lucky that you found him slipping.” she paused. “Surveillance him,” she
told them. “Catch him in the act; make it easy on yourselves.”

Jinny nodded.

Nate agreed. “I’ve got to call CD!” he announced and pulled out his cell phone and pressed 1 and pound--CD’s cell was first on his speed dial.

He waited and waited, but she’d turned her phone off. He didn’t leave her a voice message because he wanted to talk to her in person. He looked on his desk and searched for a piece of
paper that she’d given to him with her home phone number.

Nate dialed, and a woman answered on the first ring.

“Hello?” she asked cheerfully.

“Um, hello, is CD there?” Nate asked.

“Um, CD?” she asked.

Nate frowned. “Or Luke? Is Luke there?”

The woman smiled. “Yes, Luke is here! Hang on just a second,” she replied and turned to the man beside her in the bed. “Baby, it’s for you.”

“Hmm?” Luke murmured, half asleep but saw the cordless phone in front of him. “Oh, thanks,” he replied. “Hello?”

“Hi, Luke?” Nate asked angrily.

“Uh, yeah, who’s this?” he asked sleepily.

“It’s Nate Basso.”

“Nate, hi! How are you?”

“Um, I’m fine. Is CD there?”

“CD?” Luke said. “No, she’s not here.”

“So you’re cheating on her?” Nate asked, clearly pissed off and ready to open a can at any opportune time. Jinny looked at Nate quizzically, but he walked to the mens’ room to speak
to Luke alone.

“No, I’m not cheating on her!” Luke defended himself. “CD and I broke up three months
ago.”

“Yeah, we came to our differences and split.”

“But she’s pregnant.....?”

“I know, she told me,” Luke commented. “I offered to pay for an abortion, but....”

“A WHAT?” Nate furiously spat out. “You offered to KILL your baby?!”

“Nate, come on, we all know it was a mistake, just like her and my relationship,” Luke explained. “Anyway, I told her I’d give her the money or help her find a nice home for it, but we didn’t see eye to eye.”

“Probably because you sound like a ***** right now, and she has a pretty good head on her shoulders.”

“Nate, I’m going to ignore that,” Luke responded. “So are we done here?”

“No,” he replied. “I don’t know where to reach CD; her cell’s off, and I thought she still lived with you.”

“Nope, the house is only in my name, so she left two days after she told me about the baby. I’m to have nothing to do with her baby, and that seems like a good arrangement to me.” he
sighed and found his date book. “I wrote down the number of her new apartment, I’ll get it for you.”

“Fine, thank you very much,” Nate said half-heartedly.

Luke flipped through the pages. “Okay, here it is.” He stopped. “Oh, I’m sorry, I don’t have her phone number; I only have the address.”

“Fine, I’ll take that.” Nate took out a pen and wrote on a piece of hand toweling the address Luke gave him. “Thanks,” he replied and quickly hung up.

Jinny was waiting when he came out. “What in the hell were you doing in there for so long?”

“I can’t go tonight,” Nate told her straight out. “I need to talk to CD; she’s got some explaining to do.”

“Is Luke.....?”

“No, he’s not cheating on her,” Nate paused. “They broke up.”

Ooooooh, yay! You posted! WAHOO!!!!!!! That moron Luke....I just want to stick him where the sun don't shine! ;) :D But at least Nate can be the hero now......:D :D That was soooo great! Post more really soon!

“They did?” Jinny asked, clearly surprised. “Um, alright, you go talk to her. I can get a uniform to sit with me or something.”

Kate grinned. “I’ll do it,” she volunteered.

Jinny rolled her eyes. “Great, a fun-filled night with my captain.”

Kate laughed. “We’re going to have SO much fun,” she winked at Nate. “Go help your partner, Nate.”

“Thanks, Cap,” he replied and dashed out the door.

“So do you want the donuts with sprinkles or the ones with the pudding inside?” Kate asked her accomplice.

“Um, why are we getting donuts?”

Kate laughed. “I thought all cops ate donuts on stakeouts?”

Jinny laughed. “Nope, we go straight for a shooter!”

Kate raised her eyebrows. “Inspector...”

Jinny smiled. “Just kidding, Cap!” she rolled her eyes. “Geesh, just kidding!”

Nate used lights and sirens on his way to CD’s. Once he turned down her street, he shut both off, not wanting to frighten her. He pulled into an empty space and ran to the nice looking apartment building. He looked at the paper again, to see what number she was. He found her door and knocked gently on it. No answer, so he banged a little harder.

CD woke up from a nap on the couch and wondered who was at her door. She wiggled to the door and glanced out the peephole. Her distraught partner was looking back at her. She sighed and opened up, the chain still on. “What are you doing here?”

Nate laughed. “Maybe your first question should be, ‘How did you find me?’ or maybe you shouldn’t be the one asking questions at all.”

She frowned, took the chain off, and let him in. “Have a seat,” she replied and pointed at the couch.

He obeyed and took a spot at one end of the couch.

“Can I get you anything?” she asked as he shook his head no. She sat on the other side of the couch.

“CD, what’s going on?” he asked her. “Why have you been lying to me for three MONTHS?”

CD sighed. “Nate, I’m sorry, but I’ve never really lied to you. If you ask about Luke, I answered truthfully; if you asked about where he was, he WAS working late those nights, or
he DID go to our house; I just didn’t live with him in our house anymore. I didn’t lie, I just kept you from the full truth.”

“What’s the difference? What if something happened to you or the baby while you were here alone?”

“How’d you find out I was here?”

“CD, no, don’t say anything. Now I feel like you don’t trust me at all. How can I trust YOU again?” he sighed. “You shouldn’t have kept this from me.”

She nodded. “I know I shouldn’t have, but I didn’t want you to see me lose again,” she admitted and put her head in her hands. “And I didn’t want you to feel sorry for me, or I didn’t want you to feel responsible for helping me with my baby.”

“CD, I want to be responsible for your baby; are you THAT oblivious?!” he exclaimed. “Do you have any idea what that baby means to me, even before I talked to Luke? I love your baby more than I ever thought I could love something I’ve never seen before. I love him or her so much because I love YOU so much, CD, and I don’t want to see anything bad happen to you!”

CD smiled. She was incredibly head over heels for this man, but he didn’t need to know that-- it was too soon--and she couldn’t believe he’d actually felt the same way about her. “Nate, that’s really sweet,” she simply stated.

Nate was disappointed that she didn’t say anything back but acted like it hadn’t affected him. “CD, it’s the truth. If there’s anything I can do for you or the baby, tell me now. Call me later if you remember something, but don’t shut me out again.” he scooted to her side of the couch and put his arm around her.

CD smiled and leaned into him. “Thank you, and I won’t,” she replied. She kissed his cheek, but he wanted a little more. He moved his face so his lips were on top of hers. Surprised, CD flinched but didn’t leave her position. It felt so nice to be so close to him.

She let him kiss her for a couple of more seconds before she backed out of the entanglement and stood. “Hey, you want to see the nursery?”

Nate grinned. “I’d love to.”

She grabbed his hand and walked him down the hall. She opened the white door and let him in. Yellow paint was splashed on two of the walls and a couple of pieces of white, wicker furniture were neatly in tact where she was done painting.

She pointed at the wicker rocker. “It’s right beside the cradle, so after I’m done rocking her, I can put her in bed,” she explained and pointed at the other walls. “I’ll put the changing table there, a bookshelf there, the playpen will go in the living room, and some of her toys will be in here, too.”

Nate nodded. “This looks great!” he encouraged her as he saw some border paper in a corner. “After you finish painting, are you putting that up?”

CD grinned and picked up the border. “Yeah, the painting takes me a long time, so when I ever get it done, this is going up,” she told him before she opened it. “I found out yesterday at my check up that I’m having a girl,” she beamed proudly.

“CD!” Nate proclaimed and hugged her tightly to him. “You’ve got too many secrets from me!”

CD laughed. “I wanted a couple of days for it to set in for myself, alright?!”

He smiled. “Okay, I guess I’ll let it slide.”

She grinned and opened the border up. Pink baby elephants paraded around the paper.

“That’s so cute,” he commented as he took it in his hands.

She nodded. “Will you help me put it up sometime?”

“I’d love to!” Nate happily told her. “I can finish painting for you, too. I don’t want you getting sick from the paint fumes.”

She nodded. “I might have to accept that offer because it’s getting harder and harder to do,” she paused and grinned at him. “But how would I pay you back?”

Nate laughed and put his arm around her. “We’ll find a way, I’m sure.”

CD laughed. “You dork.”

He grinned. “Yeah, sometimes,” he replied as he looked at the paper again. “Man, I need to go shopping again!”

“Shopping?” she questioned him.

“Yeah! Now that I know you’re having a girl, I’ll have more ideas!”

“Aw, did you buy her something already?” CD asked.

Nate laughed. “Yeah, one or two things,” he smirked proudly.

Nate laughed. “Yeah, one or two things,” he smirked proudly.

CD hugged him tighter. “Aw, that’s so sweet of you! Do I get to see them sometime?”

“Sure, how about tomorrow?”

CD smiled. “Sounds great! Are you going to cook me dinner while I’m there?” she teased him.

“Of course I will! Instant mashed potatoes or some toast?” he joked right back.

She laughed. “Both!” she smirked.. “But I have to have spicy mustard and chocolate syrup in my potatoes, or I will NOT eat them.”

Nate chuckled. “You got it!”

“Please no, I’m not even that weird when it comes to cravings,” she smiled and led him to her bedroom.

“At least not yet,” he added and looked around. “And what’s this?” he smirked.

CD grinned. “This is my room; it’s kinda plain right now, but I haven’t had much time to decorate it.”

“I’m sure I could bring a little cheer to it,” he winked at her.

She punched his arm and led him back to the living room. “You little perv,” she teased him.

He laughed as they both sat back down. “CD, I’m glad you’ve opened up to me tonight.”

CD smiled. “I’m so sorry it wasn’t sooner.”

He nodded. “I understand now; it’s alright,” he promised her.

She grinned and gave him a hug. “Thank you for always being there for me.”

He kissed her softly on the lips. “Thank you for being my everything each and every day of my life-- before your divorce, after it, after Brian and Lily, and now Luke-- I’ve always known that I was in love with you.”

She grinned, knowing he was being absolutely honest to her. She kissed his cheek before saying, “I’ve always known, too, Nate.”

He held her in his arms for awhile, enjoying each other’s company. They didn’t have to say anything; both parties felt the warmth they were sharing.

A couple of hours went by, and they’d talked and held each other during that time, and Nate stood up. “I really should be leaving; it’s close to one, and you should get some sleep.”

CD groaned. “Yeah, so I can stay awake while I file papers!”

Nate laughed. “Sounds good to me; don’t want you out there in the line of fire! You stay in and risk those papercuts!”

She slugged him in the gut. “You jerk!” she teased him as he opened her front door.

He laughed. “Just kidding!” he exclaimed and held on to the door frame. “Thanks for tonight, CD.”

“Maybe you should stay longer sometime soon?” she smirked devilishly.

Nate’s left eyebrow shot up. “Sounds good to me,” he replied and kissed her once more.
“Remember to put the chain back on,” he told her.

CD grinned. “Always!” she shot back as he left. She closed the door and deadbolted her door but didn’t put the chain on.

Nate gave her a second while he was waiting out of the peephole’s vicinity. She didn’t put it on, he could hear, so he banged on the door. “Candace DeLorenzo, what did I tell you?!”

The door quickly opened as she popped out. She kissed him quickly, and before shutting the door in his face, she told him, “I just wanted one more kiss for the night, and I knew you were lurking in the shadows.”

He laughed and looked through the peephole. “Love you, CD, see ya tomorrow.” And with that he heard the chain go on, and he left for the night.

“Dammit, we didn’t get him, so we have to do it again tonight,” Jinny muttered during the next morning as she finished the details about her and Kate’s night.

Nate laughed. “You want me to accompany you this time?”

“No thanks” Jinny rolled her eyes. “Captain has already volunteered herself. AGAIN.”

Kate heard her and laughed. “Aw, Jinny, you know you had one hell of a night last night!”

Jinny rolled her eyes. “Yeah, it was great,” she replied, but it was actually a pretty funny night. They spent most of the stakeout making fun of Detective Camby, pointing at the scantily clad hookers, and indeed, eating.

Kate chuckled. “I’ll bring more donuts?”

Jinny nodded. “You got yourself a deal!”

CD and Nate laughed.

“That’s good because I already had plans,” Nate replied and looked at CD.

CD blushed. “Yeah, um, I have some news everyone,” she told them.

“Let me guess-- you’re not dating Luke?” Jinny asked.

CD smiled. “Wow, who told you that?” she teased her; Nate had already told her about what had happened. She shrugged. “Yeah, Luke and I are no more, but I found out the sex of my baby!”

“Really?!” Kate exclaimed. “Which is it?!”

“A girl,” CD beamed with happiness.

“AW!!” Raina and Mag, who’d been listening in, ran up to her and gave her huge hugs.

CD laughed. “Thanks guys!” Jin and Kate hugged her next, and Kate kissed her quickly on her cheek.

“So does that mean baby shower?!” Raina asked excitedly.

“YEAH!” Nate added.

CD shook her head at him. “You’re a strange little man,” she repiled and frowned at Raina. “I don’t know, Raina; I’ve never been much for showers.”

“That’s why you always reek!” Nate laughed as everyone else started at him blankly.

“Should I hit him or you want a stab at it, CD?” Jinny asked.

CD laughed. “He’s your partner for the time being, Jin, so he’s all yours.”

“Good!” she replied and slugged his shoulder.

“OW!”

“That’s what you get for wanting to come to our baby shower!” Magda told him.

Kate laughed. “Nate, Jinny, don’t you two have somewhere to be?”

Nate sighed. “Yeah, I guess we get to go talk to some hookers,” he grinned and winked at CD. “Ya gonna get jealous, hunny bunny?”

She made a puking face. “I’m gonna barf on you if you ever call me that again.”

Jinny laughed and shoved Nate ahead of her. “I’ll tame him, CD, wait and see.”

CD chuckled as the two Inspectors left.

“Okay, Mag and Raina, you two can partner up for the new case we just caught,” Kate told them as she handed them the file. “See what you can do; it’s been shipped over from Vice.”

Mag and Raina nodded and left to go question witnesses.

Kate turned to CD. “So what you going to do all day?” she teased her.

CD rolled her eyes. “Oh, Cap, I got BIG plans today. I don’t know if I’ll even be able to fit in the biggest part of my day-- organizing Nate’s desk.”

Kate laughed. “Think you can squeeze in some time for your old Cap?”

CD smiled. “Always! Can I bring my files and paperwork in and work with you all day?”

“That would be great, CD!”

CD grinned, grabbed some papers and met her in her office. “So.....” she started and looked at Kate’s mischievous face. “What are you thinking right now?”

Kate smiled. “I’m thinking about how excited I am for you and your baby girl,” she admitted.

“Thank you!” CD exclaimed. “I’m really excited myself, actually.”

“You should be; it’s such a wonderful experience!” Kate beamed. “But Luke?”

“Isn’t deserving enough to be a father,” CD finished for her. “He practically laughed when I suggested keeping her, and then he was so sweet and offered me abortion money or adoptive parents.” CD rolled her eyes.

“What a bastard!” Kate angrily announced.

“I’d have to agree with you there.” she grinned.

“And Nate?” Kate wigged her eyebrows.

CD smiled. “Is very helpful, and I think he’s going to help me paint the nursery.”

“That’s not all he wants to paint, I’m sure,” Kate teased her.

“Captain!” CD exclaimed. “I canNOT believe you just said that!”

Kate laughed. “It’s the truth, though, isn’t it?”

CD laughed. “Okay, so yeah, probably,” she blushed. “What’s wrong with that?”

“Absolutely nothing wrong with it,” Kate responded. “I think it sounds perfect. A very attractive boyfriend, a man you know and trust already, someone who will help you with the baby.....”

“He already bought her presents,” CD added.

“Aw, and you haven’t married the man yet?”

CD laughed. “He just told me everything last night.”

“So? Nevada’s known for their quickies!”

CD laughed. “I don’t even think I like him that way!” she lied.

Kate rolled her eyes. “CD, please keep in mind you’re talking to a Captain of POLICE!”

“Fine, alright, I like him a tiny, TINY bit! I’ve only thought of Nate like that for one night though; don’t you think it’s a little soon?”

“One night? Candace DeLorenzo, you do know that liars go to Hell, right?”

CD blushed. “Okay, so maybe a little longer than a night.”

Kate laughed. “Okay, so maybe since the day he walked through the door.”

“I was a married woman then!” CD defended herself.

“Oh, yeah, THAT stopped you!” Kate rolled her eyes.

CD chuckled. “Okay, so he was attractive from day one, and I wanted him since the first time I talked to him! Are you happy now?”

Kate laughed. “Ecstatic!”

CD shook her head and went back to her papers, small talk interrupting every once in awhile for the rest of the day.

That night Nate took her to his freshly scrubbed apartment. He opened the door and opened his arm in for her to go first.

She grinned and walked in. “I haven’t been here in forever,” she commented. as she sniffed. “Hmm, Pinesol?”

He laughed. “Okay, so I did some late-night cleaning after I left your house yesterday.”

“It looks great!” she encouraged him as her face contorted in pain. “Gosh, I know I didn’t really do anything at work today, but my feet are aching! Do you care if I take my shoes off?”

He wiggled his eyebrows. “You can take off anything--I repeat ANYTHING-- off while you’re a guest in my house!”

She rolled her eyes as she slipped her shoes off. “Enough small talk,” she commented as he grinned. “Where’s this present at?”

Nate beamed proudly but first led her to the kitchen. “Hold on. Let me put the chicken in the oven, so it’ll cook while I show you,” he pulled a covered dish out of the refrigerator and tossed it in the oven. “Please tell me you like swiss chicken?”

CD grinned. “I love swiss chicken, Nate, don’t worry.”

He nodded. “What else do you want with it?” he asked her as he opened his cabinets. “I have some green beans or some corn.......or Easy Mac?” he asked nervously.

CD chuckled. “Green beans are fine, thanks,” she responded.

Nate threw the can under the can opener and began to take the lid off. He put them on the stove. “Okay, where were we?”

“Something about a gift or something?” CD shrugged, stifling a giggle.

Nate grinned excitedly. “Yeah, follow me!” he grabbed her hand and took her to his spare bedroom. The door opened easily as he shoved it open.

CD’s face turned to astonishment as she brought her hand to cover her mouth.

Nate shrugged. “Like I said, I’ll get her more, now that I know she’s a girl.”

CD’s hormones made her eyes well up. “Nate, this is absolutely amazing. You bought ALL of this for her?”

He nodded. “I have to be a great uncle to that little girl, CD,” he answered as he rubbed her belly. “I might not ever have kids of my own, so this is the next best . . . .”

“What do you mean ‘I might not ever have kids?’ Nate, of COURSE you’ll have kids some day! You’d be a great daddy!” CD encouraged him.

He shrugged. “I don’t know, everything works out for a reason.”

“I’ll show you reason!” CD exclaimed as she kissed him roughly on the mouth. “Luke not wanting this baby is the perfect reason for you to have a baby-- you’ve been a father to my baby since the day I told you about her. Even before you knew that Luke and I were no longer, you were 100% supportive of me. As far as I’m concerned, you ARE her Daddy, Nate.” she paused and pointed at the piles. “This is nothing an uncle would do. She’s not
going to call you that; she’s going to call you DADDY, and that’s all I have to say about that.”

Nate beamed proudly and kissed her. “Are . . . . are you sure?” he couldn’t believe his luck.

“Of course I’m sure!” CD told him. “I’ve wanted you for who knows how long, but I never thought we should be together. I’m not one for mixing business with pleasure, but I couldn’t help it with you. I’ve been in love with you since our first case that we partnered up on.”

Nate chuckled. “When you were the pregnant hooker?” he teased.

She grinned and nodded. “Yeah, that night, I was a little nervous. I hate to admit it, even now, but I was. Then you encouraged me and told me I looked radiant, and that’s all I needed to hear.”

Nate shrugged. “You DID look radiant, CD. If you hadn’t have been married then, I probably would have became a customer!”

“Nate!” CD proclaimed but laughed. “You have always been attracted to the pregnant type, haven’t you?” she asked as she looked down at her belly.

“Nah,” he replied. “Only if you’re dressing the part.”

CD blushed. “Don’t embarrass me.”

“I wasn’t trying to; I was just speaking the truth.”

CD grinned shyly and walked away from him. She sat down in the middle of the piles. “Can I look?” she asked hopefully.

“Sure, it’s all for you and her anyway!” Nate answered. “I need to go check on dinner anyway.”

She nodded and started going through the piles. There were tons of cute sleepers, suitable for a girl or a boy, and there were enough toys to comfort the small child for the rest of her life. CD picked up a gift certificate to Applebee’s and grinned, knowing he’d chosen that restaurant specifically because she’d been complaining the other day of desperately needing popcorn shrimp. She sat it down and looked at the assortment of bibs.

Nate checked on the chicken and turned the green beans off. He set the table quickly and ran back to the spare room, where CD was lightly crying. “CD, what’s wrong?” he asked worriedly.

She didn’t say a word but simply held up an ‘I Love My Mommy’ bib that matched a sea foam green sleeper, rattle, and baby bottle. “Do you think she’ll want to throw this all back at me?” she tried to joke but was too overwhelmed.

“Aw, sweetie,” he answered as he sat down beside and began rubbing her back. “What do you mean? You’ll obviously be the best little mommy ever!”

“Do you really think so?” she sobbed.

He grinned. “I KNOW so!” he encouraged as he wrapped her into a hug.

“I love you, Nate!” she wailed. “I’m sorry I haven’t said it before, but I do!”

He smiled. “I love you, too, honey! Forever and for always!”

“And you want to be a daddy?” she weeped.

He nodded. “Only if you’re their mother.”

“Oh, NATE!” she bursted out. “You’re too sweet!”

He tried to hide back a laugh. “CD, it’s alright, I’m not THAT sweet!”

“Yes you are!” she defended him. “You’re the sweetest guy I’ve ever met!” she told him. “I....I want to prove it to you!”

He thought she was kidding, so he asked, “And how are you going to do that?”

CD wiped the tears from her eyes and grabbed his face, pressing it up against hers. She kissed him passionately, in full control, as her hands snuck under his shirt.

Nate, taken aback by all of her affection, aided her in kissing.

She laid him down on the floor and quickly pounced on top of him.

Nate, unfamiliar with this new territory of being on the bottom, struggled to learn his role.

CD, meanwhile, ripped off his shirt and her extra hormonal body was immediately amazed with him. She kissed down his neck and onto his chest.

“CD, stop, you’re going to regret this,” Nate said as he moved out from underneath her.

“I’m going to WHAT?” she asked, annoyed.

“I don’t want you to have sex with me because of these gifts or because I want to be your baby’s father.......”

“I don’t want to have sex with you because of that,” she told him. “I want to have sex with you because I need you, and I want you, and I love you, and I HAVE to have you NOW,” she groaned as she started kissing him again.

“CD . .. dinner is cooking.....” he muttered as he kissed her back.

“Oh yeah!” CD smiled and stood up. “I’m starving! We can do that later,” she shrugged.

He laughed. “Well, usually I’d be pissed at someone who just . . . .stops, but for you, I’ll make an exception, in your condition and all.”

She rolled her eyes. “You moron,” she muttered but led him into the kitchen.

“You fix yourself a drink, and then have a seat. I’ll finish up here, and then we can eat.”

She nodded and grabbed two glasses to pour lemonade into and had a seat at the table. “It’s really nice that you’re making me dinner,” she commented.

He shrugged. “Well, whatever can help ya out, I’ll do!” he replied as he sat down the chicken on the table.

“That Applebee’s gift certificate . . . . mine?” she grinned.

He shook his head. “Nah, that’s for Little CD here,” he rolled his eyes. “Of course it’s yours! It was going to be one of my gifts to you at the shower!”

CD groaned. “But I don’t WANT a shower!” she complained. “The only shower that sounds appealing right now is you, me and your shower.”

He wiggled his eyebrows. “I could handle that,” he answered as she laughed. “But seriously, why don’t you want the shower?” he whined.

“I don’t like that sort of thing,” she mumbled. “I hate going to showers, so I’d hate to force people to come to mine! They wouldn’t have fun, and I sure as hell wouldn’t have any fun either!”

Nate sighed and rolled his eyes as they dug into their food. “Fine, no baby shower.”

After a wonderful dinner and small talk on the couch, Nate and CD lied wrapped in each
other’s arms watching Miss Congeniality.

“I love this movie,” CD commented as she giggled at one of the scenes.

“Oh, me TOO,” Nate drooled as the bathing suit contest scene came on.

She slugged him. “You male chauvinist ass!” she exclaimed.

He laughed. “Eh...just kidding?”

CD chuckled. “You dork,” she muttered as they went back to watching. She stifled a huge
yawn.

Nate noticed. “CD, it’s getting pretty late; I should take you home. I don’t want you
driving by yourself this late.”

CD rolled her eyes. “Good thing I didn’t want to drive either. Otherwise, I’d have to kill
you for saying that.”

Nate smiled. “I’ll go get your shoes.”

CD stood up. “Do you have to?”

“Uh, no, but don’t you want something to walk in?”

“No, I mean, do you have to drive me? Can’t I just stay here tonight?” she asked.

Nate grinned. “Of course you can stay here! I’ll grab some blankets for the couch for me,
and I’ll set you up in my room!”

She shook her head. “No, I want to sleep WITH you. In your bed.”

Nate blushed. “Oh, alright. That, uh, can be arranged, too,” he murmured nervously.

CD giggled as she followed him to his bedroom, and he turned down the sheets. He grabbed a
clean pair of boxers and headed toward the bathroom. “I’m gonna get dressed.....”

“Why not in here?” CD devilishly asked him. “And I’m going to need something of yours to
wear.”

He nodded and opened another drawer. “I’ve got boxers, Tshirts, pajama pants.....”

“Boxers,” CD announced and grabbed the slick ones in his hand. “Silk, huh?” she teased him
and laughed.

“Shut up, they were a gift!”

“Yeah, whatever!”

“They were! From Lily!” he teased her.

CD slugged him. “EW!!! I don’t want them then! I’ll probably give myself a disease or
something!”

Nate chuckled. “Just kidding, ya little weirdo.”

She grinned as she sat the boxers on the bed and began unbuttoning her pants. “I knew that,”
she lied as she slipped them off.

Nate’s mouth dropped a little as he watched.

“And what are you looking at?” she teased him.

“And what are you looking at?” she teased him.

“The most gorgeous woman in the world, no doubt,” he commented as he grabbed the boxers
from the bed and bent down to the ground. “Step,” he commanded as he waited for her to put
her leg through the hole.

“Yes, Sir,” she grinned and stepped into the leg hole.

Nate slowly glided the boxers up her legs, taking his sweet time, feeling her smooth legs in the
process.

“Well, you little jerk!” she teased him. “Is that your hand on my thigh?”

He smiled bashfully. “Well, if it’s not, I apologize for what else it might be!”

She laughed as he brought the boxers to her waist. “Thank you,” she answered and looked at
him. “So do you need help?” she asked him, while giving his jeans a begging look.

He nodded. “Yeah, I think I could use a little help,” he responded as he put her long,
skinny fingers on his waist.

CD’s hands breezed down his zipper as she reached up to kiss him. “I want you,” she
murmured into his ear. “I need you NOW.”

Nate tensed, knowing it was time. “I want you, too, baby.”

“Then take me,” she commanded as she unbuttoned his shirt.

“But the baby?” Nate asked worriedly.

“Wants her Mommy to be happy,” she encouraged. “And I can only be happy if you and I
are together.”

Nate kissed her with such a fury, such a passion, that she didn’t know what hit her. She
couldn’t believe the passion he brought for her.

He hugged her tightly to him as he cautiously laid her down on the bed. “Do you need to be on
top?” he asked, still a nervous wreck.

She shook her head. “No, I need you in me NOW,” she pleaded as she slipped the boxers
off and waited for him to take off her underwear.

He nodded and continued kissing, pausing on her panties. “You’re so beautiful, CD,” he
commented as he kissed the inside of her leg. “I’ve never made love to a pregnant woman
before.”

She grinned. “Well, get used to it.”

He nodded as he stroked over belly. “I love you, honey.”

“I love you, too,” she replied as Nate played around a little longer before making her a very
satisfied woman.

CD put the boxers back on, as well as her bra, as her and Nate laid in each other’s arms
later that night.

Nate played with her exposed stomach as she talked.

“How partial are you to this apartment?” CD randomly asked him as he kissed her belly
lightly.

CD shrugged. “I was just wondering if you’d ever be able to part with it.”

“Why would I want to part with it? I’m not moving anywhere in the near future, I don’t
think.”

She turned to face him. “Not even if I asked you to move in with me?”

Nate grinned widely. “Ya mean it?” he asked. “You’d want me to live with you?”

CD laughed. “Yeah, if you’d want to,” she teased him.

“Yes, YES, I do!!!”

She grinned, laid back down and put his arms tightly around her. “Good. I knew you’d see it
my way.”

Nate shrugged. “I hate to admit it, but I already see everything your way, ya little slave
driver!”

She grinned. “And that’s the way it should stay.”

The next night Nate moved his essentials over into CD’s apartment and finished the task of painting the walls in the nursery. He forced CD to sit in her gliding chair while he painted,
but he sat it outside the room, to make sure she remained healthy and didn’t sniff too many fumes.

“I think we should go back to my place when I’m done,” he commented as he splashed the brightness over the white wall. “These fumes are really bad.”

CD rolled her eyes. “Nate, we’re sleeping down the hall; we’ll be fine.”

“But . . . .”

“No buts, that’s where I’m going to sleep. If you don’t want to, then fine, but I’m sleeping in my bed.”

He sighed, knowing he’d lost. “Fine, but we’re closing off the room as soon as I’m done.”

She grinned in victory. “Sounds like a plan then.” She stood up and stretched. “I think I’m going to start dinner now.”

“NO!” he exclaimed as he dropped the paintbrush on his foot. “I’ll start it, just as soon as I’m done!”

“Nate, I can make dinner, and if you say I can’t one more time, I swear you’re moving out the same day you moved in!” she shouted and left for the kitchen.

Nate groaned. They’d been living together for about 3 hours, and it already felt like a marriage.

That night, dinner was made and Nate finished the painting. He sat down on the floor of the baby’s room after he was done and sighed. “What a job,” he murmured as he looked at his work.

CD smiled. “It looks so amazing, Nate. Thank you so much for doing this for her.”

Nate grinned. “This is only the beginning for what I’ll do that for that little girl.”

She nodded. “I can’t wait, honey. I’m so excited.”

“Me too,” he answered as he wiped the sweat from his face. “But right now I’m going to get a shower. I’m so hot right now.”

“You always are,” CD grinned devilishly from her glider.

Nate laughed as he stood up. “Ya got that right,” he joked as he walked over to her. He kissed her lips quickly.

She rolled her eyes but grinned. “You ass,” she commented as she looked down at her clothes. “Looks like I’m already getting one.”

“Let me help,” Nate volunteered as he unbuttoned the first buttons of her shirt.

“Why thank you kind Sir,” she purred as she reached up to kiss him.

He smooched her back as his hands finished ripping off her wet clothes. “That’s so much better,” he commented as her naked body clung to his.

She smiled. “The way it should be.”

He kissed her full of love as she wrapped her arms around him. “The way it will always be,” he promised her. “I love you so much.”

“Show me,” she muttered against his ear as her hands devilishly roamed to his lower body.

“It would be my honor,” he groaned into her mouth as he captured it again.

She held onto him closely as she breathed him, tasted him, and felt him in her body. She readied herself for another ride into insensibleness, a ride of passion and lust, but also of love
and trust.

Nate gently fulfilled all of her wishes and commands as she yelled them out to him. He also threw in a couple of his own.

“Damn, you’re too good to me,” CD huffed into his ear as she tried to regain her composure. “You make me feel like a teenager in the back of a Chevy everytime we do this.”

Nate laughed. “You don’t strike me as a teenager in the back of ANY vehicle,” he concluded.

“Well, maybe because I never was!” she laughed. “I didn’t think it was appropriate at the time.”

“And now what do you think?”

“Of screwing someone in a car, where everyone can see?”

Nate nodded hungrily.

CD smiled devilishly. “Maybe you’ll find out someday.”

He beamed. “Really?! Ya mean it?!”

She laughed. “Maybe. If you’re a good boy.”

“Oh baby, you wouldn’t want a good boy!” he told her. “You’d want a MAN!”

“And where can I find one of those?” she asked as they stepped out of the shower and toweled off.

Nate ripped the towels out of her hands, picked her up-- even though it was a lot more painful now with her being pregnant-- and carried her into the bedroom. “I know where you can find a great one.”

She smirked. “Well, you better let me investigate him NOW. Otherwise, he might lose his chances with me and a vehicle.” she teased him.

Nate smiled and proved to her how big of a man he really was. Proved to her, in fact, for the whole night, until CD lied exhaustedly in the tangled sheets dead asleep.

Nate grinned at her slumbering body, smoothed the sheets out and around her growing body, and tucked her in. He kissed her forehead and smoothed the hair back from her face. “I love
you, baby,” he whispered and cuddled up next to her for the night.

At 7 months along, CD stopped going to work. The drive was too much, along with the stress of being at a desk all day. She went crazy at home, waiting for Nate to join her, so she called him at least 3 times a day. Nate worried like any “father” would do and called her twice as much as she called him. Everyone, even Raina, was getting fed up with their obsessive-compulsive behavior. She was, however, still trying to work around Nate’s objections to a baby shower.

One Thursday Nate rolled into the Division thirty minutes late and bags under his eyes. His pupils were huge and the whites of his eyes were red.

“Uh, Nate? It’s called sleep!” Jinny teased him as he shuffled by her.

“Shut up, Jin,” he muttered.

She laughed. “I was just kidding, grouchy! What’s wrong? CD keep you awake?”

He nodded sleepily. “If this highly sexual stage doesn’t end soon, I swear the woman’s going to kill me. All night, Jin. ALL night,” he muttered as he found his chair and sunk into it, immediately throwing his head on the desk and closing his eyes.

Magda heard his last comment. “REALLY?!” she exclaimed. “ALL night?! My gosh, I’m going to have to get Gabe pregnant or something!” she announced and giggled, reaching for her cell for a little phone sex with her husband.

Nate groaned and looked at Jinny. “What’s wrong with all these sex-crazed women?”

Jinny shrugged. “Who knows? At least she’s thinking of her husband this time.”

He rolled his eyes. “Yeah, I guess,” he muttered as he picked up a file. “Oh, I don’t know what the hell I’m doing here today. I’m not going to be very effective.”

She grinned. “You haven’t been since CD’s stuck at home, so what’s the difference today?” she teased.

Nate laughed. “You’re right, what was I thinking?” he asked as his cell rang.

“I don’t know,” Jinny shrugged as she went back to her desk, so he could answer the phone.

“Basso.”

“Baby, come home!” a voice shrieked into the phone.

“Honey, what’s wrong?!” Nate shouted into the phone.

Jinny ran to his side. “What’s wrong? The baby?”

He shrugged, listening. “CD, is it the baby?”

“YES, IT’S THE BABY! IT HURTS!” she shouted at him.

“Honey, I’ll be right there,” he promised her as he grabbed his coat. “I think I’ll call an ambulance, and I’ll meet you at the hospital, alright?”

“Hospital? Why?” CD asked more calmly.

“Uh, I’m not delivering a baby at HOME, CD!”

“Who said anything about a delivery?” CD questioned.

“Isn’t something wrong with the baby?” he asked nervously.

“Well, NO!” CD answered. “This baby is making me do the most crazy things-- like right now I know that I can’t live without you. I need you so much, and you have to come home right now.”

“CD, I’m not having sex with you right now!” he hissed into the phone as Jinny wiggled her eyebrows.

“I see I’m not needed,” she teased him and went back to her desk.

“But why not?” she whined. “They won’t miss you there! You suck without me, and you know it!”

“HEY!” he exclaimed. “That’s a bitchy thing to say!”

CD laughed. “It’s the truth though, isn’t it?”

Nate grinned. “Okay, maybe a little.”

“I love you, sweetie,” she replied. “And you’re the best cop I’ve ever seen in action, on the cases and everywhere else.”

He smiled proudly. “Well, of course I am! And you’re not too shabby yourself, baby,” he purred.

“Get a room!” Kate and Jinny shouted at the same time.

“Can I?” Nate asked excitedly.

Kate rolled her eyes. “Nate, it’s Thursday. You’ve missed a half day Monday, all day Tuesday, and you whined and complained all day yesterday. Can’t you make it through ONE day here? Maybe even solve a case?”

“But I don’t wanna!” he whined.

“Nate!” Kate exclaimed. “If you don’t follow my orders, I swear I’ll.......”

“Fine,” he muttered and turned back to the phone. “Cap’s being a jerk. I have to stay here.”

CD pouted. “Alright, I guess I’ll be built up and ready to go when you get home.”

Nate closed his eyes, knowing he’d have to sneak off to a room today to catch up on some sleep before getting back to his little sex momma. “Alright, I can’t wait.”

“Love you, baby!” she exclaimed happily and hung up.

“Love you, too,” he muttered as he sat back down at his desk to take a nap at his desk.

Raina came bouncing over to him with a file in her arms. “Nate! We got a murder to solve!”

He groaned. “They’re dead, Raina. It can wait till noon.”

At 7pm that night Nate struggled through the door of CD’s apartment with a pizza and the supplies for hot fudge sundaes in tote.

“Hey honey!” CD exclaimed and greeted him with a huge kiss on the lips. She grabbed the bag and sat it aside and threw the pizza on the coffee table. “I missed you,” she hummed on
his earlobe as she began to kiss him and unbutton his shirt.

“Baby, I’m starving. I had to work all day,” he pleaded. “Can I please eat first, and then we can do this?”

CD rolled her eyes. “Sure, I don’t care what we do,” she grumbled as she took the pizza to the kitchen. “Any more requests?”

“Honey, calm down, it’s not like I asked for something huge-- I’m HUNGRY, that’s all. I can eat quickly, and we can have sex.”

“Go screw yourself, I’m going to bed,” she muttered as she picked up three-fourths of the large pizza for herself. “Goodnight.”

“CD...”

“Goodnight, I said,” she repeated as she took her food to the bedroom.

Nate sighed and sat down with his two pieces of pizza. “At least I won’t starve-- I can fix me a sundae later on,” he grumbled to himself.

Like she’d heard him, without the skip of a beat, CD bounced into the room and grabbed the sundae supplies. “Don’t think you’re eating all of my stuff,” she snapped.

“I just wanted ONE!”

“Well, you can’t have it!”

Nate threw up his hands. “Fine, I don’t want one!”

“Fine!” she responded and trekked back to her room.

Nate complained under his breath as he finished his pizza and then walked to their bedroom.

CD was already sleep-- the pizza and all the ice cream was eaten-- and as much as Nate didn’t want to admit it, she was turning him on. She’d fallen asleep in his favorite pair of boxers and a lacy lingerie undershirt, which showed her belly. Not exactly the best dressed, but to Nate, CD looked like a goddess. A goddess that he had to have NOW, even if his body was about to shut down.

He decided to surprise her and looked at the supplies left from the sundaes-- hot fudge and whipped cream were still available. He smirked devilishly as he grabbed the whipped cream
and went to bed. He took off his clothes and carefully slid his body to where he was lurking above her. Shaking the can, the whipped cream came together as he sprayed some around her
bare belly button. He grinned as he bent down and discreetly licked it off.

CD groaned and thrusted her belly up for a second but stayed asleep.

Nate grinned and drew a line above her chest. He played with her hair as his tongue flickered out again, softly and gracefully cleaning her up again.

She stirred this time, feeling a weight above her. She murmured and opened her eyes a little. She grinned when she saw him. “And what do you think you’re doing?”

He smirked. “I wanted a sundae,” he replied matter-of-factly.

She looked at the can in his hand. “You wanted a CD sundae?” she wiggled her eyebrows as she wrapped her arms around him.

He nodded hungrily. “A CD sundae is SO much more fun to eat than any other.”

She smiled. “I guess you’re going to have to show me.”

“I guess I will then,” he answered as he positioned the whipped cream.

“No, no,” CD commented as she took the can into her hands. “I believe it’s my turn.”

Nate agreed silently as he waited for her silky hands to glide over the can and over his body, as well as her tongue, which cleaned him of his dirtiness. “That’s my girl,” he muttered as she made a trail from the tip of his nose to his pinkie.

“I better take care of that,” CD replied with a devilish giggle as she followed the path she’d made on him.

Nate groaned in lust for her. “Baby.....” he moaned.

“Nate.....” she teased as she got out the hot fudge. “It’s a shame to have this go to waste,” she commented as she began to pour it on the previous line of whipped cream.

“I guess we’ll just have to use it all; we can’t have it go to waste!”

She smirked and nodded. “Ya got that right,” she murmured as her tongue was on his top half, while her hands were lurking on his bottom half.

“CcccccccDddddddd,” he muttered.

“Do you want me now?” she asked him hopefully.

“Dammit, YES,” he exclaimed as he took her as his own.

“From now on, which one? Food or me?” she asked after they were all done.

Nate tried to reply through his panting, “How about both?”

The next day started out almost identical to the day before. Nate, shuffling in fifteen minutes late, with his eyes barely open and his clothes were disheveled.

Jinny saw him first again. “Damn, Nate, are you staying at my house tonight to get away from that woman?!” she teased.

“Shut up, Jinny,” he muttered as he sat on the end of her desk. “Actually, that sounds like a great idea! As long as I didn’t have to see her, then it would be easy to say No!”

She laughed. “Well, my couch is always open.”

He nodded sadly. “Well, my girlfriend is always open, so I’d just better stick with that.”

“NATHAN BASSO!” a voice from behind him screamed. “How DARE you say that about me?!”

Nate turned and CD was standing behind him, with her hands on her hips. She was still wearing the boxers and the fancy shirt.

“CD, what are you doing here?!”

“Apparently I’m here to hear about how I’m a whore!”

“No one called you a whore, CD!” Jinny defended Nate. “You’re just......busy with Nate all the time, and we can tell from those huge ass bags under his eyes!”

“We’re not busy ALL time!” CD cried out as she folded her arms across her middle. “Why are you telling her those lies?”

“CD, stop acting like this!”

“Acting like what?!” she screamed as tears rolled down her eyes. “You don’t love me anymore, do you?! It’s because I’m fat, isn’t it?!”

Nate stifled a laugh, while Jinny couldn’t hold it in. “Excuse me,” she muttered as she ran to the closet room-- Kate’s office.

“What the.....”

“Sorry, Cap, I needed a hide-out,” she explained as she sat down in the seat and busted out laughing.

“What? Why?”

Jinny pointed out the window towards CD and Nate. Nate was now rocking her and smoothing down her hair. “Doesn’t that say it all?”

Kate grinned. “They’re so cute together.”

Jinny laughed. “Well, sometimes yeah, but if CD doesn’t get over these hormones, I swear one of them will die!”

Kate chuckled as they went back to watching.

“Baby, there will never, EVER be a time when I don’t love you anymore!”

CD’s voice quivered. “Never? Not even if I’m 500 pounds?”

Nate grinned. “Not even if you’re 500 pounds, lazy, and ugly!”

“You think I’m UGLY too?!” she shrieked..

“NO, CD, NO!!” he exclaimed. “You’re the most beautiful woman in the world! I could never see anyone more beautiful than you!”

CD stopped crying. “Aw, that was a nice thing to say,” she replied as she kissed his lips.

“Well, I AM kind of nice sometimes,” he answered as he wrapped his arms around her and rested his chin on her forehead. “I love you so much, CD.”

“I love you, too.”

Nate kissed her forehead and then looked into her eyes. “Wait, why are you here? You should be at home!”

She shrugged. “I was bored out of my mind at home without you, so I decided to come in and work today!”

“But the baby......doctor’s orders.......your clothes!” he pointed out to her.

“The baby’s fine, the doctor said to take it easy, and what the hell’s wrong with my clothes?!”

He frowned. “Eh, nothing, I guess, but what are you going to do all day here?”

“I'll help you with paperwork and stuff!”

He sighed. “I guess, if you want to, but wouldn’t it be more fun if you.....”

“No, I want to stay here with you all day!” she exclaimed as she went over to his desk and sat on top of it. “Where should I start, Inspector Basso?”

Nate muttered to himself. “Jinny’s couch is looking better and better,” and then he told CD, “How about you sit at your desk, and I’ll come over there?”

“Fair enough,” she grinned and took a seat at her own desk.

“Okay, I’m actually only working on 2 cases at the time being.”

“TWO?! Why?! When we worked together, we’d have like 10 at a time, at least!”

He shrugged. “Kate doesn’t think I can handle anymore.”

She nodded. “I see, so when I get back, you’ll get more then.”

“Yeah,” he muttered as he handed her a file. “Alright, Raina and I have to question some people on a murder we caught yesterday. You want to type up my notes for me?”

“I’d love to,” she answered as she took the file. “Anything else?”

“Nope,” he replied as he grabbed his coat and kissed her cheek. “Anything you need while we’re out?”

“A large pizza with mushrooms and hot tamales, a Snickers bar, and some beef jerky. Oh yeah, can you buy me a coat or something? It’s freezing in here!”

Nate grinned and laid the coat in his arms around her. “Here ya go, you’ll need it more than I will, honey.”

She smiled and kissed him once more. “Be careful out there, Inspector.”

He nodded. “You watch those paper cuts, Inspector.”

Nate left out the doors with CD’s eyes peering after him, smiling.

Well, i wrote this last night and didn't plan on posting it till tom, but WHOA!! This calls for MORE!! ;):)

Nate and Raina returned later that afternoon around 4. He raced through the doors and to her desk, but she wasn’t there anymore.

“Where’s CD?” he asked Jinny sadly.

Jinny grinned. “She went back home; she missed her little Lovekitten so much, and she was bored,” she teased. “She probably went home to turn down the bed.”

Nate groaned. “Jin, don’t EVEN tease about that! You better not have put any ideas into her head.”

“Who, me?” she asked innocently.

Nate rolled his eyes. “Yeah, you!”

Magda turned around. “Nate, don’t worry. CD went home to cook you dinner; she said she was in the mood to cook.”

“Oh, that’s weird,” he answered as he picked up his desk phone and dialed home.

“Basso’s,” a voice answered sweetly.

“Who?” Nate asked nervously.

“Hey, honey! Doesn’t that have a nice ring to it?!” CD exclaimed.

“Um, yeah, I guess, if we were married or something.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?! You wouldn’t marry me?!”

“No, CD, that’s not what I meant!” he sighed. He knew this was another conversation going nowhere. “Baby, I missed you when I got back here.”

“You did? Aw, I’m sorry, honey! I’m making dinner though!”

“Yeah, Jin told me. I’ll be home in about an hour, alright?”

“Okay! I love you, Nate!”

“Love you, too,” he replied and hung up.

“What’s with that dumb look on your face?” Jin teased.

“She answered the phone ‘Basso’s.’ What the hell do you think that means?!”

“I hear wedding bells!” Magda exclaimed.

“Oh, can I help with the wedding plans?!” Raina added.

Jinny sat there laughing, while Nate quivered.

“Nate, come on, it’s no big deal. With this pregnancy, she’s gonna forget she even said that, I’m sure!” Jinny reassured him.

“How would you know? You’ve never been pregnant!”

She shrugged. “Lucky guess.”

Nate paced the room for awhile.

“What’s the problem? Are you saying you never planned on marrying her?” Raina asked.

“Well, of COURSE I planned on marrying her! I didn’t think she’d bring it up so soon though!”

All the girls laughed.

“So now what?”

Nate sighed. “I guess I’m off to buy her some flowers and then I’ll go home to talk to her.”

They nodded.

“Good luck!” Mag and Raina encouraged.

“Hope you still got those bags under your eyes tomorrow, Basso! We all know what THAT means!” Jin winked at him.

“Shut up, Jin!” he replied but grinned.

A little after 6 Nate’s car pulled up in front of CD’s apartment. She saw it quickly because she’d been looking out the window, scanning for his car.

She watched him get out and lug the pink roses by his side. She grinned as she waited for him at the door.

Nate struggled to find a key when the door opened itself.

“Hi, honey!” she exclaimed and grabbed the flowers. “For me?”

He smiled. “Who else?”

She kissed his cheek and grabbed his hand. “Thank you!”

“Welcome,” he replied as he followed her into the kitchen. “Yum, it smells so good in here!”

She nodded. “Chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes and green beans,” she announced proudly.

“Wow!” he exclaimed and kissed her cheek. “You’ve been busy!”

“And you’re late!” she proclaimed as she sat the roses in a vase and put them on the table. “You said you’d be here an hour ago! Where have you been?”

“I had to make a pit stop.”

“Twelve roses took you an hour to pick up?” she asked suspiciously.

“No, actually, those took about 5 minutes.”

“So......where were you the other 55 minutes?”

Nate grinned broadly. “How attached to this place are you?”

“What? What are you talking about? Nate, please tell me you haven’t done anything stupid!”

“Well, I hope you don’t think it’s stupid.”

“Oh my gosh, you bought a house, didn’t you?”

“No, I didn’t buy a house!” he exclaimed and then grinned. “I just LOOKED at a house.....”

“Na-ate,” she complained. “We can’t afford a house, especially with the baby coming!”

“CD, we have 2 pretty good incomes. We can afford this house. Plus, when I drove by, it just screamed our names!”

“I scream your name all the time, are you going to try and buy me next?” she shouted angrily.

“Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?!” he spat back.

“You bastard!” she exclaimed and smacked him across the face. “How dare you call me a COW!!”

She giggled. “So tell me about this house of yours.”

“It’s amazing, baby!” he exclaimed as he began to share the details with her.

She looked at him sadly.

“What is it, CD?”

She grinned. “Oh, it’s nothing. It’s just that this will be the baby’s first house, if we want it and buy it. But, it will also be MY first house. I’ve lived in apartments all my life, and I don’t know, I’ve kind of dreamt of this my entire life.”

He smiled. “Then it’s settled. We’re looking at the house together, and if you like it, I’m putting in a bid.”

“Nate, that’s so sweet of you, but what if we don’t get married? What if we fall out of love? What if you don’t like the baby and want to live alone?”

Nate laughed. “Candace DeLorenzo, if I can live through this pregnancy, then that proves that our love can withstand ANYTHING. I would never want to live alone because my life would be so desolate without you by my side. I love you so much, and I can’t live without you ever!”

“Okay, but you’ve put so much work into the nursery! I don’t want that to go to waste!”

“So another family can move in and use that room. I’ll just paint her a new room, however you want it.”

She smiled. “When can we look at that house?”

“Well, not right now because I want some of that delicious food!” he told her as she laughed. “But I had a good feeling about it, so I convinced the realtor to be there at 8 tonight.”

“Tonight? Wow, that’s quick!”

“Yeah, but if you don’t like it....”

“I won’t hesitate to tell you no, trust me.”

He nodded. “Alright, let’s eat then!”

CD and Nate arrived at 7:55 at their prospective house.

CD practically ran to the door as soon as Nate had stopped the car, and he ran behind her, laughing at how excited she was.

The realtor was waiting. “Hello, again, Mr. Basso. Is this Mrs. Basso?”

“Yeah, close enough,” CD responded as she stuck out her hand. “So the house?”

The woman smiled. “This house is hot on the market, Mrs. Basso. It just went up 3 days ago, and I can assure that it won’t stay for much longer.” she pointed to the room they were in. “This kitchen has just been remodeled, so everything in it is practically brand new-- the appliances, the stove and refrigerator, and the floor are all new.”

CD nodded. “Okay, we’ll take it.”

Nate and the realtor laughed.

“CD, honey, wouldn’t it be a good idea to see the rest of it?”

“You’ve seen it, so do we have to waste time?”

The realtor laughed. “It won’t be a waste of your time, ma’am. This tour will either make you hate or fall in love with this house.”

CD grinned. “Okay, then, let’s see it.”

The realtor took them to the other rooms-- 3 bedrooms, 2 living rooms, 3 bathrooms, and a basement.

“The basement was the Smith’s play area for their children. Everything is child-proofed down here, and the washer and dryer are in that room,” she said as she pointed to a closed door.

CD walked to the door and opened it. A spacey area with, indeed, a washer and a dryer was there. She wanted to jump up and down and scream, she was so excited.

“Anything else we should know about the house?” Nate asked.

“The house itself, no, there’s nothing else I can think of. I should tell you that there’s a back porch that we haven’t seen yet, a huge backyard, and overlooking the porch is a swingset and sandbox area for the kids to play.” she grinned at CD’s belly. “And it looks like you could use that soon.”

CD smiled proudly and nodded. “We sure can. Can we see all of that now?”

She took the couple outside on the big deck on the back side of the house.

CD looked around as her eyes welled up with tears. She touched the wood and felt the smooth finish on it. She’d fallen in love again.

“Wow, that swing set is amazing,” Nate commented.

“Mr. Smith built it himself a couple of years ago, and they’re kids have had enough use out of it.”

CD nodded. “Well, now our kids can get some use out of it.”

Nate grinned. “So, what does that mean?”

“It means if I had the money in cash, I’d hand it over right now, and we’d move in tonight.”

The realtor smiled. “So does that mean you’d like to make an offer?”

CD nodded hungrily. “Yes, we definitely will.”

Nate grinned and put his arm around her. “What’s the asking price, Ms. Parker?”

She got out her papers and pointed at a couple of figures.

CD sighed. “There’s no way in the world,” she mumbled. “We can’t afford that, Nate.”

Nate frowned, knowing she was absolutely right. “It IS a little steep, Ms. Parker.”

“So? Make me an offer.”

Nate thought for a second, figuring in his head, and offered an amount $20,000 less than the asking price.

Ms. Parker laughed. “Nate, you have got to be kidding! There’s no way in the world I could get the Smith’s to go for that!”

CD frowned. “It’s alright, Nate, we don’t need the house. We’re fine where we’re at.”

“No,” Nate flatly commented. “We’re taking this house.” he thought for a second and made another offer. This time, the offer was $15,000 less.

Ms. Parker sighed. “Mr. Basso, that’s probably still not enough.”

“Well, check with these Smith’s and see what they say! Maybe they’ll take it,” he reasoned and put his hand on CD’s belly. “Tell them a good family would love to take over their very nice house.”

Ms. Parker smiled. “Okay, so I’ll tell them about your offer. I’m not guaranteeing anything, but I WILL put in a good word for you.”

Nate and CD grinned.

“Thank you so much,” CD commented, and then her and Nate left.

CD looked out the window as Nate was pulling away. She saw it again and teared up.

“What is it?” he asked when he saw her tears.

“The deck,” she commented. “We might have a deck. I’ve never had a deck before.”

He grinned. “Well, I hope you get that deck, CD. I want you so badly to have it.”

She smiled and looked at him. “With a swing? I’ve always wanted a swing to lay in and read a book and not have to worry about anything else.”

Nate leaned over and kissed her. “You’ll definitely get a swing, baby. I promise.”

The next couple of days went by veeeeeeery slowly for both Nate and CD, as Nate trudged along at work and CD bummed around the house, desperately awaiting a phone call.

On Friday, CD got a call from Nate. “Hey, baby, what are you doing?”

“Oh, let’s see-- I’m vacuuming, mopping, cooking. You know, the usual.”

“You better not be!” Nate exclaimed.

CD rolled her eyes. “I’m watching A Makeover Story, Nate. I’ve seen the same one four times already,” she replied in a monotone.

He smiled. “Well, how would you like to do a favor for me?”

“What is it? Oh who cares, I’d love to!”

He laughed. “Can you run some errands for me? With work I’m not going to have enough time to get everything done.”

“I thought I was supposed to be taking it easy?” she asked sarcastically.

“You’re right, never mind......”

“No, WAIT! I’ll do it!”

He smiled. “Alright. Can you come by the Division and pick up the list?”

“Sure, I’ll be there in about 20 minutes. I have to change and slick back my hair.”

“Okay, thank you!”

“You’re welcome. I love you.”

“Love you, too!” he exclaimed and hung up the phone as he laughed devilishly.

CD hurriedly got ready and drove to the Division. She went inside and to Nate’s desk, but he wasn’t there. “Where’d he go?” she asked Jinny.

“And hello to you too!”

CD rolled her eyes. “Hey, okay, so where did he go?”

Jinny laughed. “He had to go out is what he said,” she shrugged. “He told me to give you this,” she gave her a list.

Jinny grinned. “Young love, how sweet,” she teased.

“What, trouble in paradise?” Magda spoke up.

“NO!” CD shouted and huffed out the door.

“Yikes, I’d blame it on PMS, but I don’t think we could really blame that now, can we?”

Kate smiled. “It’s nerves and stress. I talked to her last night, and she’s scared out of her mind that she’s going to be an awful mother.”

“Aw, of course she won’t!”

“I know, that’s what I told her, but she’s got skin as thick as.....”

“...her Captain’s?” Jinny finished.

Kate laughed. “Shut up and get back to work, Inspector.”

CD pulled up to her apartment with 3 bags of groceries and a bag of paint. She got out, carrying the refrigerated bags in with her and left the other bags for her next trip. She noticed Nate’s car parked in front of hers, but she was in a really huffy mood. She’d tried getting a hold of him while she was at the store, but he didn’t answer his phone, so she bought that ice cream anyway.

She struggled at the door as she tried to unlock it with her hands full. Kicking it, she screamed, “Can’t you at least open up the damn door?!”

No one came, and she finally managed her keys and the door herself. “Where the hell are you?!” she shouted as she walked in.

“Living room,” Nate announced.

“Then why in the hell couldn’t you open the damn door?!”

Nate smiled as he listened to her gripe. “CD, come in here.”

“Yeah, ignore my questions, that’s just great,” she muttered as she walked in the living room and saw what he was working on.

“Is this a good enough excuse to not have opened the door?” Nate smiled proudly.

She dropped the groceries to the floor, cracking the eggs, but she could’ve cared less. “It’s.....this is so.......it’s so.........beautiful.”

Nate grinned. “So do you like it?”

“Like it? I love it, Nate!” she exclaimed as she went into his arms and held onto him tightly. “It’s so great! I can’t believe you........”she stopped.

“What, CD? What is it?” Nate smiled.

“Wait, does this mean........?”

Nate chuckled. “Yep, that’s what it means,” he kissed her. “We got the house, baby.”

“Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh!” CD exclaimed as she looked at the gift he’d been working on for her. “I can’t believe it! I wasn’t expecting......”

“Me either,” he agreed. “They called and said they’d accept $12,500 less than the asking price, so I took them up on it.” he looked at her gift. “And I thought this would be the perfect way to show you.”

The swing’s poles glistened from the living room light pouring over it, and the new cushions were fluffed and ready to be tried out.

“Go ahead, CD. Try it out.”

CD smiled as she sat down into the swinging glider. “Wow.....,” she commented as she brought her legs up into it, too. She stretched out horizontally and leaned against the arm rest for support. “This is so nice!”

He nodded. “It sure is! And we can put it in your backyard in a week!”

“A week?”

“Yeah, they’re already pretty much moved out, so we can have it once the bank clears. It’s all supposed to be less than a week.”

CD beamed. “That’s perfect. I can’t wait,” she answered as she moved her feet. “Why don’t you come join me?”

He grinned. “I’d love to,” he replied as he sat on the other side and brought her feet back up. “Ahhh, this is a pretty relaxing swing.”

She smiled. “I love you, Nate Basso.”

“Well, I love you, too, Miss Candace.”

She blushed as she bent in and kissed him roughly on the mouth. “I mean, I REALLY love you.”

“I REALLY love you, too,” he repeated.

She stood up. “Let me show you just how much,” she purred into his ear as she grabbed his hand.

“It would be my pleasure,” Nate murmured as he followed her to their bedroom, a place they didn’t leave the rest of the night.

The following week, CD and Nate moved into their new, spacious house. CD did minor things around the house while Nate worked all day; then he would work on the new room for the baby once his shift came to a close.

The night it was finally done, CD was lying on the floor of the room, looking up at the ceiling. Nate had painted it blue, took a sponge with white paint, and had made little clouds bouncing around the ceiling. The pale yellow walls resembled sunshine and happiness as it mixed well with the scenic escape of the ceiling.

“How in the world did you know how to do this??” CD asked. “I mean, where did you learn it?”

Nate smiled as he joined her on the floor, looking up. “I hate to burst my own bubble, but it came with directions.”

She laughed. “It still takes skill to go with the directions,” she sighed. “Thank you so much for doing all of this.”

“It was nothing,” he replied. “and I’d do it again anyday.”

She nodded. “I know you would.”

He smoothed his hand gently over her enlarged stomach. “So this is all alright? I mean, the house is okay? Am I okay?”

She rolled her eyes. “I love this house so much. And of COURSE you’re okay. You’re more than okay. You’re absolutely perfect for me. Perfect for me and perfect for my baby. OUR baby.”

“YOU’RE the one’s that’s perfect,” he murmured against her cheek.

She smiled. “Thank you.”

He nodded. “So.....ready for bed? You’ve had a busy day and all.....”

CD laughed. “Yeah, I dusted one shelf. I’m pooped.”

He chuckled. “Yeah, that does it for some people.”

“Yeah, fat women...” she muttered as he helped her up.

“Shut up, CD!” he exclaimed. “You’re not fat; you’re PREGNANT.”

She rolled her eyes. “Yeah, well, it feels like I’m just fat because this baby is never going to come out!”

He smiled. “Two more months, and it’s all over.”

She sighed. “Couldn’t be soon enough.”

Three weeks later, Nate was sitting at his desk, checking his email. He smirked when he saw CD’s name as the last person trying to contact him. His smirk turned into a full force smile as he read it.


“Hey baby!
Whatcha doing right now? You better be thinking of me! haha, just kidding. Actually, I can’t stop thinking about you-- the way you did that to me last night. It was so amazing. I miss you, sweetie. I want to be with you. Come home? Now? PLEASE?

CD”

Nate grabbed for the phone as soon as his eyes finish reading. He knocked over his cup of pencils, as well as his coffee, while he punched in the numbers.

CD answered on the first ring in a panic. “Nate?”

“Hey baby, I’ll be right there!!” he exclaimed, grinning ear to ear. “Turn down the bed.”

“Nate, there’s no time for that. I need you to come home. It’s the baby.”

He laughed. “Good cover up! You were always the smart one of our partnership!”

“Nate, seriously, it’s the baby. I need you to get home now.”

“CD, I’ll be there soon. Turn down the bed,” he repeated.

“NATE, I THINK I MIGHT BE IN LABOR, SO **** WHAT I WROTE YOU EARLIER, AND GET THE HELL HOME BECAUSE I NEED A ****ING RIDE TO THE DAMN DOCTOR!!!!”

Nate’s eyes almost bugged out of his head. “I...I...uh, I’ll be there as soon as I can, baby. Stay calm.”

“**** BEING CALM! GET YOUR ASS OVER HERE!!”

Nate stood up. “I’m coming, CD. I’ll be right there.” He hung up the phone and yelled, “The baby! It’s the baby!” to anyone within the San Francisco area.

Jin, Mag, and Raina looked up as Kate ran out of her office. “WHAT?!” they all shouted.

“CD thinks she’s in labor! I’m going to take her to the hospital.”

Kate nodded. “Good luck, Nate. Call us as soon as she gets close, so we can be there?”

“Yeah, you got it,” Nate agreed and ran out the door and into his car.

CD was waiting on the front porch as soon as he pulled up.

He ran as fast as he could up the walk. “Baby, I’m sorry I took so long, I .......”

“Nate, shut up. It’s fine, so let’s go,” she murmured, grabbing at her bag, and holding her belly.

Nate took the bag into his arms, as well as her left hand. He guided her to the car silently and drove like a madman to the nearest hospital.

“I ****ING HATE YOU!!” CD shouted at him as another wave of contraction hit her.

“I know baby, I love you, too,” he murmured as he gripped her hand and held back the tears she was causing his eyes to create.

“I SAID I HATE YOU, YOU BASTARD!” CD repeated.

Nate smiled. “I know you do, honey. That’s alright.”

CD continued to cry out in pain as they prepped her for her final pushes. The Division gang was waiting downstairs; Kate was busy pacing back and forth, while the rest of them
stared into silence.

“Cap, will you please sit down?” Jinny complained.

“My Inspector is having a baby, Inspector!! How can I sit down?!”

Jinny rolled her eyes and turned back to the window. “Damn, I want a drink.”

Magda rose to walk with Kate. “Cap, she’s doing just fine in there, I’m sure,” she said positively as she draped a reassuring arm on her shoulder.

Kate smiled. “I know; I just wish I were in there.”

Magda nodded as she continued to walk with her.

Two hours later, Nate walked proudly into the waiting room, holding a tiny baby girl in his arms. “Look at what I have,” he practically whispered as Kate and the crew ran toward him.

“Oh my gosh, Nate,” Kate breathed, tears welling up in the corners of her eyes. “She’s so beautiful.”

Raina smiled. “What’s her name?”

“Bailey,” he answered. “Bailey Renee Basso.”

"That's so beautiful," Jinny sighed.

Raina grinned and nodded as she looked into the baby's bright blue eyes.

“Basso?” Magda questioned.

Nate nodded. “CD and I are getting married; I just proposed to her, and she said yes. She said that she should have my name.”

“And that she should,” Kate replied as Nate handed her the little bundle.

Jinny wanted to slap herself. Why the hell am I crying? she wondered as she spoke up. “Nate? How is it possible that that little girl looks just like you, and you’re not daddy by blood?” Tears ran down her cheeks as her co-workers looked on. “I mean, that little girl IS Nate Basso and CD DeLorenzo, whether she likes it or not!”

The rest of them laughed and pulled everyone in for a group hug.

“So how’s CD?” Raina asked.

“Can I see her?” Kate asked.

Nate nodded. “You can see her in a couple of hours. She stayed awake to play with Bailey, and then the drugs fully knocked her out. Her doctor said she should be awake again in another hour or so.”

Kate smiled as she handed Bailey back to her daddy. “Then I’ll stay to see her.”

The others nodded. “So will we.”

Nate grinned. “Thanks guys. Thanks for everything.” he paused and turned to the door of CD’s room. “But would it be alright if I went back in there? I want to be there when she
wakes up.”

They laughed. “Of course you can!! Get back in there to your fiancee!!”

He chuckled and kissed Kate’s cheek and quickly hugged the rest of them. “Thanks. Thanks all of you. I’ll come out and get you when she wakes up.”

Awwwww, Lisa, that was so INCREDIBLY WONDERFUL!!!!!! I just loved the WHOLE FREAKIN POST!!! I would quote my fav parts, but my fav part was the WHOLE THING!!! I just loved the part where he says her name, and that he proposed to CD......awwwww.....*tear*. I'm so glad that you posted, now do it again really soon! :D

CD murmured as she rolled over, still groggy from the medicine. The first thing she saw was a person that meant more to her than she could ever describe. “Hey, honey,” she whispered to him, smiling.

He grinned. “Good evening, Mommy. How are you feeling?”

“Great,” she answered and looked out the window. “What time is it?”

Nate glanced at his watch. “Oh, it’s about two......in the morning.”

“Aw, and you’re still awake?”

He nodded. “Yeah, Kate wanted to see you when you woke up.”

“She’s still out there?”

“I just looked outside a half hour ago, and ALL of them were still out there.”

“That’s so sweet!” CD exclaimed. “Well, can all of them come in for awhile, and then I can talk to Kate?”

He nodded. “Yeah, I’ll go sneak them in.” He stood up, kissed her forehead, and walked outside to the waiting room. Kate was the only one still awake. “Cap?”

She looked up at him. “Hey! Is she awake?”

“Yeah,” he replied. “She wanted to say ‘Hi’ to all of you, so they can all go home for the night. Then she wants to talk to you.”

“Sounds good,” Kate commented and helped Nate wake the others.

The 3 Inspectors moseyed to CD’s room but completely woke up when they saw her gleaming eyes.

“Thank you guys so much for still being here!” CD exclaimed as she sat up.

“No problem!”

“Wouldn’t have missed it for the world, CD.”

“How are you feeling now?” Kate asked, concerned.

“Never better,” CD reassured her.

Jinny smiled. “I don’t think you’ve ever looked better.”

“What does that mean?” CD teased as she pointed to her ruffled hair and hospital gown. “You think I look better like THIS than what I wear to work?!”

They all laughed.

“I meant, you look so.....calm and peaceful and happy and.....”

CD held up her hand. “Okay, Jin, I get it! I was just kidding!”

“Oh,” Jin said sheepishly.

The others laughed as Magda said, “CD, you’re going to have to forgive her; she’s been acting very maternal and weird today while you were having the baby.”

CD smiled. “That’s alright; I like it, Jin.”

Jin laughed. “Call me crazy, but all this baby stuff has made me start thinking.....”

“So get working on it!” Nate encouraged.

Jin smiled. “Got to find a guy first,” she commented as an attractive younger doctor walked by CD’s door. “Ohh, umm, CD, I’m glad you’re doing so well. I really got to go now,” she said, mainly to the door she was walking to, “I have to....yeah know, file my taxes and stuff now,” she murmured as she practically ran into the door, trying to catch up with the doctor.

Everyone laughed as they watched her, and the other 2 Inspectors said their good byes. Nate kissed CD again and left her to talk alone with Kate.

CD sighed. “Kate, there’s something I’ve been needing to talk to you about. I didn’t know if it was for sure or not, but now that I’ve had Bailey, I’ve come to a decision that I need to run by you.”

Kate nodded, a little nervous. “Okay....shoot.”

CD sighed. “Kate, there’s something I’ve been needing to talk to you about. I didn’t know if it was for sure or not, but now that I’ve had Bailey, I’ve come to a decision that I need to run by you.”

Kate nodded, a little nervous. “Okay....shoot.”

CD sighed. “Well, as soon as I saw Bailey, I knew that I couldn’t put my life in danger like I do now. I can’t go out on the streets anymore and risk being killed. I don’t want my daughter to grow up motherless, Cap. Motherless like I did.”

Kate acknowledged. “CD, I understand what you’re saying. These feelings are natural right after you give birth, but I think you’ll change your mind once she....”

She shook her head. “No, Cap, I’m not going to change my mind. Nate and I both discussed it and agreed that......”

“I’m not going to let my best Inspector go without a fight!” Kate exclaimed.

CD looked puzzled. “Um, who said anything about quitting?”

“YOU did! You said you don’t want to work the streets, and.....”

“Yeah, but I don’t want to quit. Kate, I want to be put on modified assignment as SOON as the doctor releases me, so I can still do my paperwork and get back in the swing of things,
but I’m not going to do any fieldwork. In my spare time, I want to catch up on my reading.”

“Reading, Inspector?”

CD grinned. “Yeah. Reading. Studying up for my Captain’s exam.”

Kate’s face lit up. “Captain’s exam? You mean, you want to try for CAPTAIN?!?”

CD laughed. “No, I just wanted to say that just to see how you’d react.” she rolled her eyes.

“Shut up!” Kate replied, chuckling. “Wow, this is so great, CD. I think it’s a wonderful idea!”

“You do? I mean, you think I’m ready?”

Kate grinned. “CD, I’ve been in the business long enough to know. I knew when Raina was ready for Inspector, and I’m positive that you’re ready to be a damn fine Captain. I’m so
proud of you, CD, and even though we’ll miss you like hell, I’m ready to let you go. You NEED to go and explore your new opportunities. Hell, the pay increase isn’t too bad either,” she winked at her.

CD laughed. “Yeah, that wouldn’t hurt,” she answered as she slowly moved to one side of her bed. “Thanks for your support,” she paused. “Will you sit with me for awhile? Just until I fall back asleep?”

Kate beamed. “Of course I will.”

Kate took a seat, grabbed CD’s hand, brushed the hair away from her eyes, and silently sat beside her until CD was back into a deep slumber for the rest of the waking hours.

Bailey raced across the living room floor one night, from Nate’s chair to the couch CD was stretched out in. She was busily reading over her Captain’s book, fervently writing last minute reminders.

Bailey grabbed onto the couch cushion and pulled herself up to her mommy’s knee and held on.

“What is it, ‘Lee?” CD mumbled as she tucked her dangling strands of hair behind her ear.

Bailey let out a yell and smiled, trying to get her full attention.

“Nate, I don’t have time for this!” CD exclaimed as she grabbed onto Bailey’s arm, so she wouldn’t fall. “Please take her into the other room?”

Nate sighed and took the baby into her room.

Bailey frowned as Nate grabbed a book from her bookshelf, sat down in the rocker, and looked at her unhappy face.

He smiled. “Sweetheart, Mommy’s really scared about her big test tomorrow. She loves you so much, and she didn’t mean to ignore you like she did. Let her get tomorrow over with, and she’ll be back to normal,” he grinned as Bailey’s eyes started to shut. “Actually, she’ll be better than normal because she’s going to get the job, Renee. She’s going to be bossing people around all day; now she won’t have to boss us around so much!” he laughed.

CD could hear talking coming from Bailey’s room, so she decided to take a break and see what Nate was up to. She stood in the door frame as Nate continued.

“Nah, Bailey Renee, the truth is, I wouldn’t trade your mom for the world. It scares me that she’s going for this big of a job, but I know she can handle it. She can handle everything. She’s my hero, Bailey. She’ll be yours one day, too, if she’s not already. I love her more than anything. I never knew I could love someone this much, but it’s amazing how I can. It’s so exciting to wake up next to someone you love every single day. I wish I could describe it for you; make you understand. You will someday, though. You’ll find a nice guy, handsome as me,” CD stifled a giggle as Nate’s serious face continued, “and he’ll sweep you off your feet. Your mom will cry, but I’ll be the strong one. I’ll be one that shoves you off onto him, just so I can have your mom to myself again.”

Bailey wriggled around in Nate’s arms and groaned.

“You’re right, I’m just kidding again. I’ll probably cry the most when you leave us. I was so happy the day your mom announced that she was pregnant with you. Probably more happy than she was, at the time. She was really scared. I’m so glad I get to be your daddy now. It all works out, Bailey. Everything works out for a reason. I want you to always remember that.”

CD knocked on the door.

Nate blushed as he looked up. “Hey! How long have you been standing there?”

She smiled. “Long enough to fall in love with you all over again.”

He rolled his eyes. “Shut up, CD.”

“What? I’m serious!” she laughed as she walked over to her baby and put her into her crib, kissing her tenderly on the forehead and grabbing Nate’s hand, leading him to their room.
“You’re the sweetest man I’ve ever met,” she paused. “You really think I can do it?”

He wrapped his arms around her. “I KNOW you can do it. In my mind, I’m already calling you Captain.”

She grinned. “Thanks for the confidence; I need it.”

He nodded. “You sure do!” he stopped when she sat down on the bed and pulled up the covers to her chin, obviously scared. “CD, you’re going to do so well.”

“How do you know?”

“Did you hear me telling Bailey that everything happens for a reason?”

She grinned and nodded. “So whatever happens tomorrow....”

“Will have happened for a reason, CD.”

She walked out of her office, with a cake in her hand. ‘CONGRATULATIONS,’ was writtten on the top, and ‘CAPTAIN CD’ was scrolled across the bottom. “CD, we all just want to wish you good luck,” Kate announced as she handed the cake to CD, waiting for her to blow out the candles.

CD grinned broadly as she blew them out. “Thank you guys so much!”

Everyone gave her hugs, while their eyes filled with tears. Raina reflected on the time she made Inspector, and everyone had done the same for her. Magda thought about the time her
and CD talked-- even if it were just for a brief moment-- when Ben was sick, and she had been so scared. Jinny remembered all the times the gang met at Anchorside for drinks after work. Kate thought about the times CD came to visit her at home, when she didn’t know if she had the strength and courage to ever go to work again. Finally, Nate thought about his first day at the Division. He was scared out of his mind, but the tension seemed to disappear the second he laid eyes on her. He didn’t even know that that was, indeed, his new partner, but he did know that she was going to be spending the rest of her life with him, whether she liked it or not.

CD looked up at him, with tear-soaken cheeks and grinned. He winked at her, and in that gesture, she knew that he was telling her that he loved her. That everything was going to be alright. It had all worked out for a reason-- she didn’t know how she was going to pan out as a Captain, but she did know that that was what was right for her then and there. Who knew what tomorrow would bring. All she knew was that she had the guidance and support she needed. She had her friends. Friends that would also advance in the world of police. She had a friend that would retire from there, so she got to come back a year later to her Division
and be boss. She had her baby. A baby that would grow into a fine young woman and become a strong attorney working in Washington D.C.. She had the love of her life. A partner that
devoted his life to her and her baby. A person that loved unconditionally. Every single day of their lives, they loved each other more. After all of the heartache and stumbles, Candace
DeLorenzo-Basso could finally admit to being truly happy. Everything she had overcome had made her a stronger person. It had all worked out for the best. There were going to be hard
times, but she was ready for them--God knew she was brave enough to handle it-- that’s why he gave them to her. SHE knew, now, with the backbone of her family, that she was brave enough to handle them. She was ready for it. She was ready to conquer
anything because Nate taught her-- everything happens for a reason.
