What shows are unbearable.... just because of a certain actor or actress??

Without a question:

Bea Arthur from Maude. The role of Maude should have been given to a different actress, IMO.

I'll have to say The Waltons after Michael Learned left the show and Peggy Rea took over the maternal role during the eighth season as Olivia's cousin Rose Burton, with her two grandchildren (Martha Nix and Keith Mitchell as Serena and Jeffrey Burton, respectively). They took away from the original premise of the show (the Waltons) and it became The Burtons.

As I discussed in previous board on that subject it was Bonnie Franklin who made One Day at A Time and brought it to true form. MacKenzie Phillips stated when Bonnie was featured in Lifetime Intimate Portrait that on the show Bonnie was in charge and she had a standard and nothing less was not acceptable. The producers had also said that Bonnie would have her script marked up with changes to bring the story and characters true to life.:)

Yes, I understand that but I could just never stand all that over emoting she did!

It wasn't one actor/actress but several that put Mork & Mindy in the wrong direction in the series' second season, when a substantial amount of the supporting cast was replaced. On top of that, they wrote off Mindy's father and grandmother. Luckily they returned for the third season. The show wasn't the same but it wasn't necessarily bad. I did like the 4th season. This is one example why networks should never tamper with a hit series.

When Mork and Mindy had Racquel Welch as a guest star that was the beginning of end for that show. The wholesomeness of Mork and Mindy was gone and never came back.

The character of Ann Romano was quick tempered and that what the emoting was about.

Personally I loved it when she did that. That was why I had a crush on Bonnie. I love her line during one of warpaths, "I see a horse on TV that could do that and sing Yankee Doodle at the same time."

That is really true. I hate it when shows make major changes like that and still pretend that the show is the same. The Waltons was better after they got rid of them and just let the kids star without the parents (although it was never as good as the beginning). The Cosby Show did this (I hate the show anyway so I may be biased) with Cousin Pam. They let her character dominate way too many of the episodes of the last season. It really wasn't even The Cosby Show anymore.

Who could have done that role. Bea Arthur is the best comedienne in a role of that nature. She was Maude and always will be Maude.

I see we have a difference of opinion here. I can see that you are a Bonnie Franklin fan! But I just never liked her! Sorry!

Hey that is OK. Not everyone likes the same thing. I enjoy these discussion boards. I hope I did not come off offensive. If I did I apologize.

I remember Dynasty. First they replace Al Corley with Jack Coleman. I got used to that for the plot said he had an accident. But when Pam Anderson left and a british actress of Emma Samms takes over as Fallon I felt that characther wasn't the same.

The first show that comes to mind was when Debi Mazar joined Working. The show was still ok but made a huge nosedive, into cancellation.

I think you mean Pamela Franklin, right?;)

I didn't like the characters of Sam (Danny Cooksey) and Maggie (Dixie Carter & Mary Ann Mobley) on Diff'rent Strokes. I thought having Mr. Drummond get married was a good idea, but eh...I didn't really find Sam or Maggie that interesting.

I also didn't like Pippa on The Facts of Life.

Both names are wrong. :p Pamela Sue Martin was the original Fallon. Emma Samms was pretty bad in the role at first, but IMO, it was the fault of the writing. She was great during the last season, when Fallon regained her spark and stopped being such a twit, which she had become after Emma replaced Pamela.

agree with both. Sam seemed to be more of a "well, Arnold is getting older, he's not as cute and rambunctious anymore" addition, and it ruined the show.

I also think Pippa drug FOL down too. Season 8 may have been the best season they had (nothing against Charlotte Rae, she was great too, but I loved Beverly Ann also, and the girls were all now adults, so it was great seeing them grown up but still friends, etc..), yet season 9 went downhill so badly, and adding Pippa really didn't help at all

I think Danny Cooksey, who played Sam on Different Strokes, killed the show. I did like Conrad Bain and Dixie Carter. Mary Ann Mobley put the nail in the coffin in the show. Mr. D getting married would had been a great series finale. That whole concept killed the show.

Diminishing Mrs. Garrett in the Facts of Life which drove Charlotte Rae to leave the show killed it. I am a great fan of Cloris Leachman but her addition along with Pippa and MacKenzie Astin killed the show. They should had pulled the plug on the show with Mrs. G remarrying given that Tootie, the baby of the group, graduated from high school. That would had been a perfect ending for the show.
