Did anybody watch this? I found it disappointing, they should have had Lucy somewhere to fit in those categories. Well, Mr. Mooney was on there, but he didn't win.
And at least, Desi's name was mentioned! LOL <3

And seeing some of them old, like the cast of Andy Griffith and Gilligan's Isle, was pretty cool. Even though I felt sad because the cast of ILL couldn't be on ther. It's not fairrrr! :(

I agree...actually, I watched most of the first TV Land award show, but did not watch it this year...I thought it was terrible last year... the "performances" were terrible (except for Dick Van Dyke's quartet), and I didn't think Laverne and Shirley's stupid skipping along theme song was funny the first few thousand times it aired (I hated Laverne and Shirley, although I like Cindy Williams)...

(Also Last year)Rob Reiner's and Sally Struthers' bit was idiotic...

I don't watch any award shows as it is (except the opening monologue of the Oscars), and this one will be no exception... Apparently TV Land doesn't like to honor people who are no longer with us (I Love Lucy should have swept every category last year), apparently because they can't make an appearance... And the people who do show up look pretty bad...

Unfortunatley, the two hours I spent last year watching that drivel is two hours I'll never get back again...

(Was Dawn Wells on the award show this time...I might have watched it to see her...she's great)

I was VERY disappointed with this years awards. Atleast they did do a little Lucy sketch with the models wearing burlap dresses last year, but I don't think Lucy was even mentioned this year. For a show that basically created the way television is filmed today, it definitely should have won awards. Not only was I disappointed because there were no Lucy mentions, but the whole thing was extremely boring.

Like i said on another board, if they had given Lucy an award for best ever last year, i wouldn't care who wins this or any other year, but their lack of recognition for the world's most popular show, only because the cast is dead is disgusting. Even the Oscars recognize some people posthumously. I disagree with you all about the show though, yes, it's sad to see those OLD favorites looking so OLD. BUT, it was the best award show because we don't automatically see the same tired people all the time always getting awards. I LOVED seing Larry Hagman with his Jeanie and although the Sex and the City parody was scary at times, it was original. All award shows are nauseating but i find this one's two hours just flew by and at least it was people we hadn't seen in decades. Oh and Lucy was shown at the very beginning in a still montage, Desi was mentionned in the Latino tribute, it seems that's the best these idiots can do for the world's most popular series.

I know, that's why i didn't even bother taping it, every time i switch channels, it will be on instead of the regular programs i want to watch. I JUST MEANT THAT INSTEAD OF THE SAME PEOPLE WE SAW AT THE SCREEN ACTOR'S GUILD AWARDS AND GOLDEN GLOBES AND OSCARS, it's finally people we haven't seen in decades and of course it's a shock to see Ellie May looking older or Tina Louise, but many hadn't changed that much and we all get older. Actually this is the exact reason people didn't tune in Life with Lucy and watch the old lady, they preferred watching reruns of the Lucy that never gets older on I Love Lucy!

There's no argument that Lucy was, is and always will be the First lady of comedy, but this thing where gorgeous people age is something terrible in my opinion. They all end up the same way, either surgically hideous like Joan Rivers or people make fun of them like Lizzie Taylor.

I watched part of it. I guess the fact that they gave the Potential Classic award to ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT mystified me. Sure it is a funny show, but I don't by any means think it has potential to become a classic.

When I think of shows with potentiality of becoming classics, I think, Golden Girls, The Nanny, Full House, as widely loved as Friends or Will and Grace is, not that I watch Friends personally, but because it is loved by many, it has potentiality, Cheers.

Now I watch Arrested development and those "new shows" and I will tell you they are pretty good and quite humorous, but too young and too soon to tell as far as becoming a classic goes.

I thought the accolade for Bossiest boss should have gone to Gale gordon Post Humusly but hey maybe I am a bit partial.

I thought that the skit with Bea Arthur in Sex in The City revisited was hysterical

and I thought the tribute to MTM was very touching...as well as Freddie Prinze Jr. Accepting the award for his dad.

SPLAIN

The Sex in the City bit could have used a laugh track though, i don't think it got the response it deserved, actually Bea never looked better, what is it with her and that WHITE hair anyway? She looked more like Farrah Fawcett than the lead on the show. It really was nice to see OLD favorites and i totally agree with you on Arrested Development, funny, but a classic? We'll see!

I think part of the reason Lucy is not getting a fair shake at all on these awards , is because let's face it. Lucy was what sitcoms are all about. There are numerous stars and writers who got their stuff from Lucy, and it was Lucy and Desi's Genius that broughts us the rerun, that is the whole basis of Nick at Nite. Desi, led the way for Latin entertainment in Television. And although you may not think of it in this aspect, that was the "FIRST" inter-racial marriage. that was unheard of then. CBS didn't want Desi because he was Cuban and didn't think he belonged with Lucy. Lucy was also the first pregnant woman, to play pregnant in her TV show.
So in all reality The revolutionized TV, and It is my beleif that if both were alive today, they would have both received every accolade that Tv Land had to offer. W/O Lucy and Desi there would be no rerun, well perhaps, but not as notorized as they made it. They are IT.

Exactly, good point, Splain...

And, IMHO, Chico and the Man was not a great show to begin with... Freddie Prinze was over rated, the show does not play well today, and the only reason they gave him any kind of award was so his over-rated son could be there to receive it...

I Love Lucy...simply the best

Oh i like the way you think, i could get you really riled if you were black. You see back then when Freddie died, his wife, who was a racist did not want any blacks at the funeral unless they were superstars like Sammy Davis jr. True about Freddie, he was a sensation because he was different, a one joke wonder, IT'S NOT MY YOB was his only famous line, i liked him on the show but you're right, it doesn't stand the test of time. Jack Albertson though, who played his boss, was the recipient of an Oscar and had starred on the I Love Lucy show as the clerk when Lucy needed a helicopter to reach her ship, remember? LADY, YOUR SLIP IS SHOWING!

I get meloncholy about the redcarpet shows. I can't help but thinking of Lucy in 1989 walking at the Academy Awards and how cool it would have been to have actually seen her in person. Someone would have to strap me down. Actually, that wouldn't help I guess, I would be so excited about wanting to go up to her I would get that extra rush of adrenaline. I don't even think cast iron chains could hold me down.

Perfect example of the Lucy smile thing. She talks to Gary after getting out of the limo and she's frowning, looks 85, then she turns and hears the applause and cheers of the fans and 40 years melt away as she smiles and her face lights up shedding decades, she looked fantastic.

I remember watching the show in 1989 with my grandmother. We had just came back from the mall. Now anytime I see a Red Carpet walk....Lucille Ball is permanently etched in my mind, and to think Hollywood is without her, and now without Bob Hope. Everything is so gray and bland. I just think Hollywood is kinda gone. Don't get me wrong, there are some very great entertainers today, but back then, there were Ledgends. I often wonder if any of these entertainers, 40 years from now will be considered ledgendary.

You ready for this? I am black!

I'm not surprised at all when hearing about Freddie Sr's wife being a racist...

I wonder though, what Freddie Sr would have said if he knew that blacks were not allowed at his funeral unless they were superstars...

There's a lot of subtle racism in Hollywood by the Hollywood elites... I personally don't give a rat's rear end if a black actor or actress wins an Oscar, but when Denzel Washington (who is an excellent actor) and Halle Berry (overrated in my opinion) won a couple of years ago, Hollywood was going around patting themselves on the back for giving the awards to two blacks... but when you think about it, it's Hollywood that's been lecturing the rest of the country on how intolerant we Americans are, and yet, THEY'RE the ones who have denied blacks recognition for the past 75 years... (I guess Sidney Potier won a Oscar or two, but never before had a black man and woman won during the same year).

Anyway, that's a whole 'nother subject...

But truthfully, I don't get riled about that stuff...what do you expect from a bunch of libs?

SPLAIN

Look, that's a whole other thread, the Oscars are a popularity contest and who advertises the most, Paul Winfield and Cicely Tyson should both have won for Sounder decades ago, they were nominated but never had a chance. Also, there's talk of a Lucy interview floating around on her being interviewed on the red carpet that night, i would kill to see that, although it's probably just fluff anyway. Everything about the Oscars is fake like most of Hollywood. One final note about previous posts, Lucy herself voiced the same sentiment YOU DID, when she got back home after that show in '89, she said HOLLYWOOD IS DEAD, IT CAME TO ME THAT NIGHT AT THE OSCARS! Of course, all the superstars of her era were dead or getting there.

NostalgiaAce777
04-02-2004, 03:11 PM
I know what you are talking about. There are quite a few interviews she gave that night, I used to hae the carpet walks on tape, but they got eaten up, by an old crappy recorder of mine.
The one interview she gave she looked good, the other one didn't catche her in the best of light, and she looked old, saggy and frail, not the Lucy we are used to seeing, sadly. It almost gave you this eerie sense she wasn't going to be around much longer after that, which ironically, she wasn't.
I beleive this was from E! if I remember correctly. It was seperate from the show itself. So if someone has the show itself, they may not have the interviews she gave, because the "walk" was from E! and the show itself was on a local channel. ABC's I think. I don't remember.

I am proud to say I also am not the only Wings FaNaTiC in Detroit. Most people here are proud of our team.
I am also sure I am not the only Lucy Fan here. I have gone shopping in my shirts and I always have someone saying, I Love Lucy, that show is so cool. Sometimes I will run into strangers and we will babble off for an hour at a time about our favorite redhead and her shows. Suddenly we are no longer strangers. Lucy seems to bring people together, I think. My boyfriend thinks I am like really weird for this, but I don't care.
I also like other shows, like The Nanny, Full House, Mary Tyler Moore, Dick Van Dyke, and quite a few others, beleive me, I can go on for hours, But Lucy is my all time fave. I seem to know more about her than the others, but there is more to read and watch about Lucy than the others, so I pick up more. I have watched Lucy since I was about 5. She never ceases to amaze me.

Maybe someone can SPLAIN the difference to this "Vita-Girl" between a public municipal building called a lending library, and a privately owned message board with a TOS agreement and posts from owners and moderators that clearly say NO RELIGION OR POLITICS. The people who need "saving" the most are usually the ones always drowning in their own stupidity. Vita! Quit posting about praying, prayers, Jesus, and the dang bible. This isn't "Little House on the PRAYERY"! That should get you started. We'll work on the Tooth Fairy, Santa, and the Easter Bunny later on.
