View Full Version : MTV getting way too prudish

I decided to watch a little MTV today, something I rarely do, and in the midst of constant hip hop videos and other rock that I don't care much for, comes one song that I really like. Maroon 5's This Love.

However, the version MTV is showing in the daytime is different than the one I've seen in the wee hours of the night.

During the "hot" scenes where Adam and his girlfriend are making love, MTV decides to get all prudish and put flowers all over the screen whenever Adam is shirtless. What is up with that??? One of the things that has added to that videos popularity is the fact that people think it's a sexy video.

This is the same channel that has shown videos like...
Dirrty by Christina (anyone whose seen the video knows it needs no explanation)
I'm A Slave 4 U by Britney (Britney in an orgy)
What's My Age Again by Blink-182 (the three members of Blink running naked the entire video)
Express Yourself by Madonna (Madonna topless in a chair, no nipples but you know she's topless)
Jenny From The Block by J. Ho (J. Lo braless, as well as Ben Affleck eating her, this is family entertainment?)

all of which either contain nudity or were "dirtier" than the Maroon 5 video, and MTV had no bones with the content of those.

Lighten up MTV!!!! as if Adam Levine shirtless making out with his girlfriend is even the most offensive video you've shown today alone.

Does anyone else think MTV's getting too prudish since Nipplegate?

I agree with that.

No offense to those who love it, but I don't think The Real World has done one positive thing to MTV, much less tv in general (I hate reality tv!). After that show, MTV became less and less about music, and now the closest thing to "music programming" MTV has are shows with Ozzy, Nick & Jessica and P. Diddy. I miss the days when MTV showed videos all the time, and videos made the artists huge. For someone as big as Britney, MTV's never played ONE of her videos (not even Baby One More Time) as many times as they played ANY given Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, Michael Jackson or Duran Duran video received in the mid-80's

When MTV hit the airwaves in 1981, they played good music videos. But now, I don't watch any kind of videos from newer rap artists to world class rock videos. I sometimes watch music videos like Hilary Duff, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera right before I headed to work.:)
