Stillwatch 03-21-2004, 10:47 AM There is a CD entitled, "Tube Tunes Vol. 3" that has this version of the theme on it. It looks like it is out of print now, but I saw one a month ago at Borders Books & Music. If you can't get it at Amazon.com, try the audio CD section at dvdempire.com, or try gemm.com Good luck! I do hope it's on an MP3 so I can buy it because I like Dionne Warwick Bestie DadTheKing 07-03-2019, 01:31 AM I never knew that Dionne Warwick sang The Love Boat theme other than Jack Jones and I listened to her version and it is fabulous. I liked when Sonny from Sonny and Cher was a guest DTK TMC 05-16-2026, 06:32 PM I never knew that Dionne Warwick sang The Love Boat theme other than Jack Jones and I listened to her version and it is fabulous. The first was 'Finder of Lost Loves', which Arista created a whole album around, released in January, 1985. The track was written by Burt Bacharach and Carol Bayer Sager. Arista Records' exec Clive Davis had high hopes for the album. The title track was released as a single, as a duet with Glenn Jones. The original TV theme song was a duet with her and Luther Vandross. (The expanded CD, released in 2014, includes both duets plus a solo version by Warwick, which was originally considered as the single release). The show was a flop in the ratings, and canceled in the Spring of 1985. Her album (titled "Without Your Love" everywhere else but the USA) peaked at #106, while the single failed to chart on the Hot 100. It did better on the AC chart. (Actually, the album is one of her better ones under Arista). In 1985 she was still under contract with Aaron Spelling / ABC , and owed them one more TV theme song for an upcoming Spelling project that never happened (he turned his attention to the 'Dynasty' spin-off). Without a project to fulfill for Spelling, Warwick was lured back to 'Solid Gold' and recorded the theme song to that syndicated show for the 1985-86 season (she was the original host / theme song artist in its first season from 1980-81). Spelling then decided she would record the theme song to his once-successful, but aging, 'Love Boat' series which had dropped significantly in the ratings in its 8th season . ' The "Love Boat" recording by Warwick was introduced for the 1986-87 season, which would be its last as it dropped to the bottom of the ratings. A limited-edition single was released to stores, but never appeared on any Warwick album. It got little to no airplay on AC radio. I remember buying the single and have it somewhere in my collection. The single finally ended up on some 'TV Theme Show' compilation in the 1990s, along with her recording of 'Solid Gold'. I believe you can find the original versions of all three TV theme shows she recorded back then on the very many 'compilation albums' of Warwick released over the past 20 years by different labels. |
