View Full Version : dizziness and fainting..
Hollow 03-19-2004, 12:09 AM A few minutes ago i got up to let my cat inside and i got really dizzy, which happens alot when i stand up fast, i think it's because im taking paxil or something. anyway i started to not be able to see anything until it all completely blacked out for awhile.. then i started to be able to see and i realized my arm was twitching back and forth like crazy. wtf.. ive never heard about anything like that happen to someone while theyre dizzy. its amusing though. about a year and a half ago i fainted from being so dizzy. i passed out while i was walking and i continued walking even though i was unconscious until i tripped on something and fell over and woke up.. lol i guess it had to with my subconscious or something. it's fun though. i hope it happens again when i get up.
SBTB Geek 03-19-2004, 01:29 AM Are you anemic?
x Rogue x 03-19-2004, 01:43 AM I get dizzy when i stand up to fast, but i don't black out.
dawsongirl 03-19-2004, 02:51 AM Paxil does weird things. I almost fainted in the shower the other day. My hands went to sleep even. I thought I was going to barf.
dandelion wine 03-19-2004, 03:54 AM If I don't get enough to eat or sleep, the same thing happens to me.

o0o that reminds me of another experience. about a month ago my dad woke me up and i went over to talk to him at my doorway. i was just listening to him and i got dizzy and everything went black. then i felt myself starting to fall backwards but my foot kept stepping back on its own, i guess my subconcious was keeping me from falling. i could feel my dad grabbing my arm and i heard him saying "whats the matter?" and it sounded like he was yelling to me from far away. and a moment later i regained consciousness. yeah that was pretty weird.
MandieR1980 03-19-2004, 03:53 PM I fainted when my blood pressure was really low and I was dehydrated
Penny Lane 03-19-2004, 04:08 PM Could be that you had a sudden sugar drop.
Rhiannon 03-19-2004, 05:09 PM I passout when I'm outside attempting to play sports. Haha I'm such a lazyass.

That's what the DR told me; while at the hospital they gave me 2 bags of IV's and asked me to stand up, everytime I did my bp dropped and the dr told me that If I was still lightheaded I was still dehydrated, he offered me a longer stay at the hospital but since I had to take care of my kids I had to go . He reccomended to drink Gatorade (which I do all the time) . I also have problems with my sugar and have to watch out for that too
Titania 03-20-2004, 06:43 PM I have benign positional vertigo which causes me to have dizzy spells when I jerk my head, change directions, or whatnot...blacking out like that can also be caused by anemia or low blood pressure.
Make sure you eat enough and stay hydrated.

Hollow 07-10-2004, 07:41 PM YAAAAAAY more occurences to add to the list of sarah's favorite dizziness experiences!!!!!!!!
This morning i got out of bed and stood up and i got really dizzy and i started to black out.. i leaned over (that usually helps) but it didn't help, and my arm started twitching back and forth until everything cleared up. And a few minutes ago i got up and i got dizzy again so i leaned against a wall and everything totally blacked out even though i was conscious, and somehow a few moments later i started breathing really hard until i could see again.
So.. so far it's made me black out, faint, fall over, twitch, and breathe heavily. seriously, it's entertaining when it all happens. i wonder what else it could make me do.. *ponders*
Kay Scarpetta 07-10-2004, 07:49 PM I get really dizzy and light headed when getting up fast, changing directions, etc. I thought it used to be from all the medicine I was taking, but now I'm off of every medication. I'm not on anything at all.. and it still happens. If it keeps up, I'm going to ask my mother about it. Cause it sucks.
PZelda 07-10-2004, 07:57 PM I was going to say I don't remember that thread...Doy! It was created when I was on my spring break in England...
Irish_Rose_Kate 07-10-2004, 10:53 PM I am not a doctor, but I was took Prozac witch Paxil has in it, for about a week when I started to get the shakes really bad. Like the twitching that you said. I called the doctors, and they said that it might be something that is a side effect called ‘Trimmers’. The doctor took me off of it, and put me on another med I don’t get the twitching anymore. I don't know if, that is it or not, but it wouldn't hurt to ask the doctor.
Hollow 12-18-2004, 11:35 PM Hooray, another update for Sarah's Adventures in Fainting that no one would care about to save their life.
So i recently started taking a pill for OCD called clomipramine and apparently it's a little TOO powerful. Holy **** you have no idea. it's made me see everything saturated in color, lose my hearing, lose my balance, black out, shake, yell out things out random things for no apparent reason, beathe really hard. you'd think im on something. it's so awesome, but it's really bad in public because i can hardly control it.
well anyway, i'm gonna go play the legend of zelda: a link to the past until i beat the game so my blood pressure will be low and when i stand up fast i'll get dizzy and see what happens:)
Janice 12-18-2004, 11:44 PM With side effects like that, I'd stick with the fainting.
Seriously, sounds like a bad reaction to the medication. You should tell your doctor.

I have heard of that medication and I think it's a different kind of anti-depressant than the SSRI's like Zoloft, Luvox, etc. I've only taken the ssri's. I know it's supposed to cause a sedative feeling, though. Which kinda discourages me from it and the effects you have had would be scary (for me, lol). If it's effective I might try it though.
I'm just wondering because I'm gonna look into trying treatment again soon when I get the courage to go to the psychiatrist. And I want an effective pill, I'm considering Luvox or Clomipramine.
Warm & Fuzzy 12-19-2004, 01:32 AM The same thing happens to me. But that's due to lack of sleep.... I get about 2-3 hours every day nowadays.... and also due to my eating disorder... either I have TOO much food, or no food, both which are extremely hazardous to my health. I damn near fainted in the subway yesterday. I was STANDING, and I could just feel myself falling backwards....almost blacking out.... legs getting all weak and crap, but somehow I managed to "knock" myself out of that state to gain consciousness again.. Weird yeah. Amusiing tho, like you said LOL
robyrob 12-19-2004, 02:08 AM man, I used to get dizzy and fall down and blackout a lot, but I was just drunk. :)

It definitely helps the obsessive part a lot more than compulsive for me. i've been able to go to sleep faster instead of staring around and thinking something scary's gonna happen, plus i've gone outside in the dark by myself without panicking and dashing inside three seconds later. I'm still pretty compulsive but it's easier to resist urges to do things like pushing a button a certain amount of times.
dawsongirl 12-19-2004, 03:28 AM damn...that's nasty side effects. I think I'll go look that drug up in my pharmacy book. :cheer:

stuff like that has happend to me before.
TheGreatPretender 12-19-2004, 05:36 PM Well if you are still blacking out and loosing balance, maybe its not the best med for you.
