Did anyone see the episode tonight, where Wally wants to get out of going to the dance with Kitty Bannerman by writing the fake letter ? I thought it was kind of pathetic that June went through the trash and brought that letter to Ward. Wally & Beaver have no privacy. I laughed when she was lounging in the wing back chair looking at fashion magazines when Ward came home. She was proabably looking for the latest fashion to wear while scouring the sink...LOL

You're absolutely right. I saw the episode and I felt that June going through the trash can in the boys bedroom was a total invasion of their privacy. She has no respect for their personal privacy.
Another instance was the episode where Ward and June broke into Beaver's diary.

Unfortunatley,I know too well how the Beav and Wally must've of felt,with the the invasion of privacy...:rolleyes:

I realize this type of plot device in LITB does show June in a bad light, But the story is still good (IMO), and there need to be a way for June and Ward to find out what Wally was really thinking after he lied to try to get out of the dance. This ep had already used a misplaced comment (by Eddie, when he said there was no 'extra' practice fo the basketball team) to make them knowledgeable about his lying. So either Wally just admits what has been going on, or Beaver squeals, or there is some way W & J discover the truth behind Wally's back. If there was a better idea than June 'happening' to find Wally's letter [and why didn't he tear it to shreds, knowing his mom?], maybe the girl, Kitty, or her parents could have called the house and said something to indicate Wally's dishonesty... except that device had already been done once in the show.

Actually, this is consistent with June's character... so absorbed in her family she worries too much and pries to try to make sure things are "right" as she sees it.

I missed this episode. Did June wear rubber gloves while she was digging through the trash???

It's called "Wally's Dream Girl". It's about where June asks Wally to take Kitty Bannerman to a dance at the country club, but Wally doesn't want to because the previous summer he had written her letters to make himself look like a big shot (having his own car, tuxedo etc..). He tries to get out of it by lying about having basketball practice that night, but Eddie mentions to Ward they don't and Wally is found out and Ward tells him he is going to that dance. He then tries to write a letter to cover his tracks (telling her the car was in an accident, he loaned his tuxedo etc...). June finds the letter in the trash can and shows it to Ward. Ward then tells Wally he must face her. When Wally shows up, she confesses that she made the stuff up about herself that she wrote to him. They both end up going to the dance and have a good time.

i think what everyone must remember is that in the 50's kids and adults were not on an equal footing as they are today. i would NEVER speak back to my mother or father. I would never be fresh or question them. I don't remember getting much mail as a kid, but i would imagine that if i did, my mother would ask me what was in it and feel that she had a right to know. I think the way life between adults and kids is very accurately portrayed. Back then, kids had respect for grownups. I am a teacher and i can tell you that while most kids still have this, many don't.

IMO the trash is fare game if, I don't want someone to read something I have trown away I rip it to shreds.

So true! We were definitely not on equal footing with parents/adults back then. They were much more authority figures than they are now. Adults stuck together against the kids, too. And when you got into trouble at school, you got into trouble at home.

Well,I was a kid of the 70's and 80's and that's how I was raised.But I am much more liberal in the upbringing of mine...I'm curious of how your parenting styles are..:)
