View Full Version : Artists you're loyal to

List the artists who you're into so much, you're 99% sure you'll buy each album automatically, just because it's by that artist. Even if you haven't heard anything from it, you're buying it.

My list:
Prince
Lenny Kravitz
Me'shell Ndegeocello
Seal
Terence Trent D'arby
Janet Jackson

I used to be loyal to Madonna and Michael Jackson, but they're no longer on a must have basis.

Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver
Rascal Flatts
Chris Cagle
Kenny Chesney (most likely anyway)

¤I Love Clay Aiken¤

Clay Aiken & Britney Spears. Maybe Christina. And NSYNC too. I was such an obsessed fan back then, that if and when they come out with a new one, Ill just have to buy it, even if I didnt like Celebrity.

Dean Winchester

Madonna
David Bowie
Bjork
Kylie Minogue
Fleetwood Mac

are the only ones I currently am that way with. It took me awhile to pick up Bowie's Reality, tho I am glad I did because I love it.

ones I am more "likely" to buy than other new albums:
Prince
Michael Jackson
Janet Jackson
Cher

I'll usually be interested when these artists have a new cd out, but I will generally try sampling the album first before buying it, because I have albums I bought and disliked from these artists, but if I love the new Janet cd, she'll be bumped back into the first list. I am just a little hesitant after All For You. Prince and Cher will probably always be in the "likely" catagory. I loved Cher's last 2 albums, but she's had so many albums that were godawful. Prince is hit and miss after 92 with me, Gold being the only "great" album he's done in that period.

I've got practically everything else from her though, including the Dick Tracy / Evita / Who's That Girl soundtracks.

I think AL is a lot better than critics treat it, but it took a lot longer to really "get into" than previous albums. Maybe get it as a free BMG selection or something, it's not a great album, but I wouldn't consider it bad either, American Life and Hollywood were actually the weakest tracks in my opinion.

Last time I checked (which was a long time ago lol), she was working on a new album but other things were taking up her time and blah blah blah. So...as far as I know, she was planning on releasing a new album. I just dont know when yet. But all of us Donna fans are still waiting...:)

But, I've got a lot of albums of hers: Entre A Mi Mundo (1992), Selena Live (1993), Amor Prohibido (1994), Dreaming Of You (1995), Siempre Selena (1996) and the soundtrack of the film (1997). I also have the film of her life and a video of music videos of all her hits (todos exitos).

Lacuna Coil, it took me forever to get all of those cds...

And Evanescence, though I only own Fallen, the limit I spend on cds, sadly, falls under $100, so I can't exactly buy their cds not sold in stores. However, I did spend hours at a time (when I still had Kazaa) downloading every Evanescence song I could get my hands on and d/ling and re-d/ling so I could get the perfect song w/o glitches. But, I have no clue when their gonna release another cd, but you can bet I'll be busting down the doors to get it...and I already am counting down the days till March 23rd when I can buy The Punisher soundtrack, all b/c Amy sings in one song ;)

There was a commercial that said that?!?! Ah, awesome.

You weren't able to understand what she was saying? Are you sure you weren't listening to one of the Italian songs? B/C Lacuna Coil has a few songs in Italian, though most are in English. Maybe it was an Amazon problem, I've never had trouble understanding them...hmm...

am I the only person who finds it strange to be loyal to someone with just 1 album out? There's some newer artists out there that I really like the album of, but I'd never consider myself a loyal fan until the third album at the very least. There's so many cases of artists who came out with one great album, and the rest of their output was lackluster. I can see being a fan of Clay Aiken or Maroon 5 (I love their cd), but I don't think either of them yet has enough catalogue yet to be as loyal to them as people are to someone like Prince, Metallica, Mariah, Madonna, Aerosmith and some of the other more veteran artists mentioned in here do.

Nothing against the newer artists, but there's been so many flash in the pans who had an amazing debut album, and the rest of the catalog pales in comparison that it's really hard to judge "this is the best singer ever" from just the debut album.

Thank you. When I started the thread, I meant for people to include artists that have some sort of history, where you can say, yes I buy album after album after album because I'm that big of a fan, and have a trust that that particular artist won't disappoint. It's barely been a year that people have even heard of Clay Aiken. Prince on the other hand has been recording since 1978 and has released practically an album a year, all of which I have. It's that type of loyalty that I wanted to see expressed in the thread.

yep. I am not bashing Clay, Maroon 5, Evanescence (yes, I know they have 2 albums) or the sort, but I don't think you can count a under-1-year following of an artist the same way you can count someone you've followed for years and have been around buying more than 2 albums of. There are younger acts that I might pick the next album up of when it comes out (like Maroon 5 for example), but while I love Songs About Jane, I know that me being a fan of M5 for 3 months is barely the same as someone like Madonna, Janet, Michael, Prince or Cyndi Lauper, whom I've followed for over 15 years, or even someone like Bjork that I've followed for 5.

I can even see Justin or Britney "loyalists" because I think they've been around long enough and have enough albums out that they've kept some "true" fans, but not Clay or Ruben or somebody. Give them time before really putting them on a pedestal because the next album might not be as good

2 bands that not alot of people heard of--Extreme & Dream Theater.

Extreme only had 4 CD's out before they broke up, but 3 of the guys have their own band now called Tribe of Judah, so I'm getting into that. But Extreme was a big part of my life at one time and I still keep up on the guys.

Dream Theater is hardly played on the radio(I guess they're too progressive for radio), but they have an absolutely huge international fan base. I have all their CD's except for the very 1st one because they had another lead singer before the lead singer they have now(who has an amazing voice), and if he's not singing on it, I'm not getting it. I also have a DVD of one of their performances. As long as they keep putting out CD's, I'll keep buying them.

I like alot of other bands and musical acts, but those 2 I find I am totally into.

Thanks, Diezman!! Yes, Nuno is very underrated. I just wish he were a nicer guy though. I've met all of them many times, and while the other guys were awesome, Nuno always seemed so put-off most of the time, like he's rather have his fingernails torn off than talk to his fans. And it wasn't like we were acting crazy around him. We were always calm & polite around him.

About the hair bands, though, I used to love all that. All the hokey songs(there was even a song called "Sportin' A Woody"!!), power ballads, etc. In fact, I'm still into it. I just saw Whitesnake, Warrant, Kip Winger, & Slaughter last summer.
