FLO was known for her catch phrase-Kiss my Grits". And As a replacement, how could they compete that? I'm sure the replacement waitress was no where near Flo. I don;t remember her because it was so long since I seen the show.

I don't think it was necessary to replace FLO.

I guess they figured 3 waitresses was a good number, but I think Alice and Vera could've held their own.

All they had to do was EXPAND Tommy's and Mel Role on the show.

Flo's first replacement was Belle Dupree, played by Diane Ladd. She was only on for the 1980-81 season. She was ok but no one could replace Polly Holiday. Ironically Diane Ladd played Flo in the movie "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore", the inspiration for "Alice."

The reason why i saw no point in replacing Flo was because she had a catch phrase and it was have been strange to ive another waitress a carch phrase too. So it was really a no win situation for any waitress who replaced Flo.

Maybe they had to replace Flo because of the theme song. There's a new girl in town. Just a thought. I thought Flo was the best. I didn't care much for the other two. Belle the 2nd one clashed with Alice since they both like to sing. And Jolene was the one that stayed the longest was the one I couldn't tand the most.

The pressure was on because of Linda Lavin. She was the star and she made sure that was known. She resented Polly Holliday because it was Flo why people watched Alice. I thought Diane Ladd did a great job as Belle but, again, Linda Lavin made it hard for her. Belle did have a catch phrase, "My little voice told me and it said Isabelle...." I could not stand Jolene and once she got it was a jump the shark for Alice.
