The new installments of these controversial, groundbreaking and very funny sitcoms are All in the Family: The Complete Third Season and Soap: The Complete Second Season, debuting as three-disc DVD sets, each at the collectible price of $29.95 SLP. Orders are due June 17. Nominated for an amazing 48 Emmy® Awards and taking home 20 trophies with multiple wins for all of the lead characters as well as three wins for Outstanding Comedy during the course of its remarkable eight-year run, All in the Family is the 1970s comedy best known for the show's central character, Archie Bunker (played by Carroll O’Connor), a working-class family man with bigoted and conservative world views. Archie single-handedly helped the series blow the lid off every sitcom formula that preceded it. All in the Family was produced by television pioneer Norman Lear (“One Day at a Time,” “Sanford and Son,” “Maude,” “The Jeffersons”). Other Bunker family members included Archie’s long-suffering but loving wife Edith (Jean Stapleton); "little girl" Gloria (Sally Struthers) and her liberal husband "Meathead" Mike (Rob Reiner). Together they produced some of television's biggest laughs with their foibles and prejudices. The 1973 season won the Emmy® and Golden Globe® for Outstanding Comedy Series with the heartbreaking "Gloria, the Victim" and the shocking "The Bunkers & the Swingers" (1973 Emmy® winner for Writing in a Comedy Series). In this latest installment of episodes, All in the Family: The Complete Third Season continues to sizzle with a flawless ensemble cast, precision timing and lasting political relevance. DVD details Include: • Three-Disc Set Contains Complete Third Season (24 Episodes) • Full Screen Presentations • Audio: English • Episode Selections • Interactive Menus • Bonus Previews Soap, the ultimate parody of soap opera melodrama which was created by Susan Harris (TV’s “Golden Girls,” “Benson” and “Love, American Style”) and produced by Paul Junger Witt (Three Kings, Mixed Nuts, Dead Poets Society; multiple hit TV series), caused a nationwide furor when it premiered with its edgy, politically incorrect jokes. It went on to win four Emmys® (including three for acting in subsequent seasons), one Golden Globe® and was nominated for more than 13 awards over the course of its network TV run. Starring Robert Guillaume (later the star of “Soap” spin-off “Benson”), Kathryn Helmond (“Who’s The Boss?”) and Robert Mulligan (“Empty Nest”), the series featured the acting debut of young stand-up comic Billy Crystal (When Harry Met Sally, Analyze This) as TV’s first openly gay character. This second outrageous season continues the saga of the wealthy Tates and working-class Campbells. Comedian John Byner joins Cathryn Damon, Robert Mandan, Diana Canova and Jimmy Baio for 23 more episodes of inspired zaniness. Nominated for three Emmy® awards, Guillaume won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series in 1973.
