A short fic from C.C.’s point of view from The Wedding.

“With power vested in us, we now pronounce you husband and wife... kiss your bride!”
I looked on as Maxwell and Nanny Fine kissed each other for the first time as husband and wife. And that was it. Now I had nothing to live for. Maxwell was taken, and Nanny Fine was his. There was no one in the world for me. I knew I would end up dying a lonely, old woman. Never would I have anyone waking up beside me with their arms around me in my bed.
I’d always thought Maxwell and I could definitely hit it off. We’d been working together for years and years, so why did it never work out? Why didn’t he even notice that I liked him?
Or maybe it was like he and Nanny Fine. He’d been hiding his feelings for so long, but I wasn’t as good as her when it came to prying them out of his mouth.
Maxwell and Nanny Fine walked down the isle, followed by the rest of the wedding party. Everyone else stood up as they left, including me. They left the church, and once everyone was gone, we left as well. Everyone was so slow, it seemed like rush hour traffic on a rainy Monday. I finally made it out, and we all filed to the reception, which was to be held in a nice dance place.
I walked in, and saw Nanny Fine and Maxwell sitting in chairs, held in the air by people. They were kissing each other, as a song was playing. I looked around and saw all the other guests cheering and dancing and having a great time. I wished I could have a good time, too, but with the newlyweds on my mind, I couldn’t. I walked over to the drinks and pour myself a white wine. I drank it fast, and poured another. One thing led to another, and before I knew it, I was sitting on the couch, still drinking.
Niles walked by and sat next to me. “Here, Miss Babcock,” he said, handing me a drink.
“Oh, Niles, you know I’m not supposed to--” I drank the drink fast. “--do that,” I finished.
“I see, and, uh... how many times have you ‘not done that’ tonight?”
“About seven. Oh, Niles, I have nothing to live for, now that Maxwell’s taken.”
“Oh, miss Babcock, you know that’s not true. You’re sophisticated, beautiful, sexy-”
“How many times have you done that tonight?”
“About twleve.”
I laughed.
“Dance with me.”
“Okay, butler boy,” I replied, and we stood up to dance.

After the dance, we went back to Maxwell and Nanny Fine’s place. I’m not sure what happened, but the next morning, I was walking downstairs in a red robe. My eyes grew wide as I saw Niles in his pajamas, trying to figure out what happened. He looked at me and his eyes grew wide, too.
“We didn’t!” he said.
“Did we?” I replied.
“Oh God!” we both exclaimed.
