I think just about everybody loves Yetta, so I thought it would generate some good discussion if we all posted our fave Yetta moments/quotes. Here's one from one of my all-time favorite episodes, "The Whine Cellar" (It was just on this morning hehe!)

Maggie:It's your daughter's 50th birthday.
Yetta:50?! She's got braseirres older than that! If she's 50, then I'm......What do you know? She's 50!

(Fran catches Yetta in bed with her boyfriend)
Fran:Oh my God, Yetta!!
Yetta:What a coincidence, Sol said the same thing not 10 minutes ago!

 There are a billion more that I love, but that's all I can come up with for now.

All of them! It's so funny how Yetta has a fannie pack everywhere she goes.

Well we all know Yetta is played by Ann D. Guilbert, who also played Millie Helper on The Dick Van Dyke Show.
I like when Yetta had the "Millie Moment" when she was talking to herself in the mirror as Millie. I beleive it was the Nanny show playing tribute to the Dick Van Dyke show, but I am not sure.

By the way i am a newbie in this forum, you can call me Ace.

Welcome, Ace! Always nice to see new faces around here! :D

I'm a huge "Dick Van Dyke" fan, and "The Nanny" did indeed pay tribute to the show several times over the years. In the moment you mention, Yetta explained that she'd had a dream in which Max would come home from work, trip over the ottoman and kiss a perky brunette at the door. After Sylvia informed her that that was the opening of DVD, Yetta insisted that it happened at the Sheffields, and she grabbed Brighton and said, "See, here's Richie!" That's one of my fave scenes!

Oh Yes now I remember. That was so classic and clever.
This is one show that SHOULD have gotten the NEW CLassic award from TV Land.

I was watching one Nanny last night, i think they played it 3 times this year already. The one in which Brighton plays on yettas canasta team.

Yetta: Are you thinking what I'm thinking?
Fran: That we should replace Gret with "B"
Yetta: No That I shouldn't eat stuffed cabbage this close to a gas stove.

I love the one in Fran Lite when Fran, Sylvia and Yetta came I think from the theater and they are talking about something(don't really remember) and Sylvia asks why nobody eat the fruits and Fran said "Because they're wax!" and Yetta said "Even the grapes?" hahaha loved that one!

That's not "Fran Lite." I'm pretty sure it's "Everybody Needs a Bubbe." I know I'm nitpicking, but I just thought I"d point that out. I probably need a life, LOL.

Two fo my favorites:

"You're just jealous because I'm gonna be a millionaire . And you better be nice to me because I got a very long memory! [To Fran] Waitress, can I get a cup of decaf?"

And:

The other time is from the epsiode, "Sara's Parents" when Fran is strying to convince "bert and Ernie" that she's a good mother to the kids and wants nothing more to provide them with a loving but "most of all stable environment" . [Cue Yetta behind the glass doors in the back end of the living room] :
"What time do you open??"

I dunno why, but this moment just popped into my head from "Yetta's Lettas." (While Yetta and Andrew Lloyd-Webber are in Paris) "This is very nice, Mr. Lloyd-Webber, but you know, we could've just gone to Epcot and seen all of Europe.

I'm so glad I started this thread.

I liked it when Yetta started "seeing" Sammy and Fran says to her he's black, and yetta replies "HE'S BLACK:eek: !!!" That was priceless.

I was watching the episode with Whoopi the other day, where Whoopi was a wedding photographer for dogs, Yetta was drinking milk and eating what she thought was a cookie, she says
this cookie has a strange taste to it.

THOSE ARE LIVER SNAPS!!!

Yetta; I am eating liver snaps and a glass of milk?, That's just not Kosher!!!

Ray Charles was cracking up. Yetta's facial expression was priceless.

I just finished watching "The Engagement" (One of my faves, BTW!), and I heard this:

Sylvia:Ma, Mr. Sheffield is finally gonna pop the question!
Yetta:Oh, I hope you said no. It'll kill Frannie!

I loved the number she did in the closing tag of a final season episode. The family had just attended one of Max Sheffield's productions and were getting ready to leave for the evening when Yetta hung around backstage for a moment (to retrieve her purse, or something) and did a wickedly funny solo dance (most likely performed by a stand-in double in full Yetta regalia), and at one point she bends to look between her legs and waves! This was probably my favorite among many classic Yetta moments.

so more Yetta quotes:

Yetta: This chair is really bad i can feel all the springs!
Gracie: Thats becuase u sat on me Yetta

Fran ( one the curise): Yetta let go of me
Yetta: I can't I'll fall.

Fran: Yetta what are u still doing here?
Yetta: I'm waiting for Grandpa to pick me up.
Fran: Yetta Grandpa died 30 years ago....
Yetta: Oh, Well that explains why he's late.

That Last Ep:

Fran has her last walk thru the house and ending moment..exits leave us all very sad...a pause in the hall than Fran comes back opens the closet in the hall and takes Yetta's hand

Yetta: I like this house much better than your old one!

From "Everybody Needs a Bubby"

(Fran is angry at Yetta cause she thought Yetta told "Maggie" (she actually told Gracie) to 'go for it' on a date)

Fran: "...the tall one is Maggie"
Yetta: "Hotpants? Tell her to go for it? What am I? Senile? Your husband would throw me out of the house"

Yetta: I've been holding out on Grandpa for 25 years....

I like the Yetta line in the episode where Fran loses Elizabeth Taylor's pearls when she has the accident in the taxi, and she's in the hospital bed with amnesia, and says something to Yetta about everything working out like she'd always hoped, and that she had 3 beautiful children, and Yetta replied,

The 2 big ones are from a previous marriage

A way to confuse Fran even more!

There are too many to go over- I think she is the funniest grandmother ever on Television. She always cracks me up, I love her. My favorite line is when Sylvia turns to her and says "This is all your fault! You pushed me into having a baby. Children are nothing but misery!!" and Yetta says, "That's right, Cookie, .... it's PAYBACK time."

I love it when Yetta stands in front of the refrigerator and says "This elevator is so slow!" or when she goes into the dressing room and says something like "I don't know who to vote for"- when she goes to the circumcision and tells Fran "Why did you let that mangy dog in here, it's unsanitary for the baby" and Fran says "That is the baby!"- I love it when Yetta doesn't want to miss her boyfriend's call so she has the phone in her purse.

I didn't know Yetta WAS on the Dick Van Dyke show- I never watched that show, I didn't like it- but I did wonder how someone so funny could not have been in something before, because she is nothing but a scream!

Sylvia "is not nobody died, Fran is about to receive a marriage proposal"

Yetta "OH! Well, they finally have a little father!" referring to Maggie, Val, e. .. maybe Grace.

when Fran is in the hospital who do not remember anything and thinks that his wife Maxwell's and Yetta says that the two older children had been from another husband.:happyface

Thank you, arouetrevol, for posting this remembrance of what is my favorite "Yetta" moment on "The Nanny."

Do you (or anyone reading this) happen to know which episode of "The Nanny" it was in which "Yetta" stood in front of the "Sheffield' refrigerator thinking it was an elevator?

That WAS a really funny moment of "The Nanny," and as the "Sheffield" refrigerator was one of those double-door, industrial size iceboxes, one can't entirely fault poor "Yetta" for her confusion.

I know you, arouetrevol, wrote you don't particularly like "The Dick Van Dyke Show," but try to give it another chance. It is a very funny sitcom and one of the earliest which relied on more sophisticated, adult humor over simplistic situations and slapstick, based as it was on the real life experiences of TV comedy writer Carl Reiner. "The Dick Van Dyke Show" was, in its era, as revered by critics and fans as was "Seinfeld" in its time.

And if you're a fan of Ann Morgan Guilbert (our "Yetta"), then you'll have a chance to watch Guilbert in her earliest work, and she was also very funny as "The Petries" next-door neighbor & friend, "Millie Helper," on the Van Dyke show.

I especially recommend the episode "Long Night's Journey Into Day" (a pun-play using the title of the famed, Eugene O'Neill drama), which features Guilbert and Mary Tyler Moore alone for most of the episode. It is Guilbert's favorite among her Van Dyke shows.

Again, thank you, arouetrevol, for sharing this "Yetta" memory, and I'd be grateful to find out the title of the episode in which "Yetta" waited for her elevator/refrigerator. Although I've watched that episode many times, I never committed the episode title or its exact plot to memory.

Yes, Kristen, and in that same Van Dyke tribute episode of "The Nanny," "Yetta" made a (self-deprecating, since Ann Guilbert played "Yetta," & "Millie" on "The DVD Show") remark that she'd heard/read how difficult it was to work with the actress who played "that Millie Helper," or to that effect. It was priceless!

There was also a moment of another episode of "The Nanny" which paid tribute to another TV sitcom classic, wherein "Miss Babcock" made some insulting remark to "Fran" about her ("Fran") trying to emulate Donna Reed, after which "Fran" began humming "The Donna Reed Show" theme, accompanied by a little dance.

Fran Drescher and the folks who produced & wrote "The Nanny" were obviously great fans of classic TV sitcoms, and these moments were a wonderful testament to that fact! :)

Having read through this thread, I now remember a scene from the episode, where Fran and Maxwell have dolls, so they can practice being parents to twins. Well, Yetta sees one of the dolls and thinks it's a real baby. And then, Gracie comes into the room and says "Hi Yetta!" Yetta thinks the doll, that she believes is a baby, has talked, and says bewilderedly "You talk?" After that, Gracie says something about food, and Yette asks the doll/baby "You cook?"

There were a couple of episodes where Yetta would get confused like that in the Sheffield house. A couple of quotes to this effect were:

"If you need me I'll be over in the gift shop!" and (after picking up a couple of items in the living room) "I hate it when they don't put prices on things!"

My all time favorite Yetta scene is from Me and Mrs. Joan.
Joan: Where did you get the exquisite shrimp?
Yetta: I came with her
Joan: No dear, I mean the crustacean
Yetta: Oh, she's my daughter

The whole scene is so funny. Yetta is my favorite Nanny character.

I LOVE it when Yetta loses her memory like in "The Morning After" when Roseanne guest starred. She lost her memory about being engaged to Sammy! Laughed my head off!!!
