Does anyone out here appreciate the many fine automobiles Ward owned? Do you have a favorite?

I love vintage cars, especially those from the late 50s and 60s. Picking one is a decision for me because I pretty much liked ALL of Ward's cars. If I had to choose one, however, I would probably pick the one Ward had which is similar to the one I now have as my AVATAR, which I believe is a 1959 Plymouth Fury.

Growing up, my dad owned a somewhat similar looking car, a green 1957 Plymouth Savoy, which was a cheaper version of the Plymouth Fury, kind of like the Chevy Biscaynes and Bel Airs were a notch or two below the Impala and Caprice model lines. Anyway, '57 we had was pretty cool, with pushbutton transmission and huge fins in the back.

However, I also liked Ward's car that is shown in the opening shot of the last season. a 1962 Plymouth Belevdere. A very fine automobile, too!!

I fondly remember all those great cars, from my childhood.

It is always fun to see them again, when they were in their glory.

The Fury had a huge engine, and from the way I have seen Ward zoom down the street, it looks like he enjoys that big engine also!

And did you notice that in the episode, "Beaver and Violet," that Fred had a very similar looking car as Ward? Not a surprise given the fact that Chrysler was probably the sponsor for most of the series run.

That was a very common practice back then, often you would see an entire tv show or movie, and there would only be one brand of car shown.

I had my first accident with one of those pushbutton transmission cars. Sitting at a stoplight, the guy in front of me, with a Plymouth, was pushing random buttons, and when the light turned green, he didn't move, so I politely tapped the horn, he floors the gas, and zooms backwards into my front bumper. Turns out, the last button he pushed was "R". No damage was done to my car, so we had a good laugh over it.

I remember I was fooling around with the pushbuttons on my father's '57, and subsequently jammed in the 'reverse' button. He wasn't too happy when he returned from the store and couldn't put the car in gear! Luckily he had a screwdriver and was thus able to pull out the button. Whew, that was a close one! Lol!

Yeah, me too, #5! I was as dumb as Beaver, because he had left me in the car to run an errand. Like an idiot I claimed innocence, which was ridiculous since I was on only one in the car at the time, and there was nothing wrong with the buttons when he put the car in Park. Lol!

After my little adventure, I stayed way away from any Dodge or Plymouth, just in case someone was playing with those buttons!

I used to call those cars "rolling typewriters".

Rolling Typewriters????? LOL!

Sure, that was many years before touch-tone phones came out, so the Plymouth had buttons to push, much like typewriters.

I wonder when the term "dial" is going to go out of style. Telephones have not had dial for many years, but you still hear people say "just dial such and such" when giving their phone number.

I remember once on the Diff'rent Strokes show, one of the kids was using the phone, and you heard the touch-tones, then they showed the front of the phone, and it was a rotary dial phone.

Anyone notice any mistakes like that in LITB?

The cars back then were awesome. You could tell the designers put a lot of thought into making them just by loooking at all the different details. Now it seems just about every car on the road looks pretty much the same. It's so boring.

They don't make them like they used to.

As many of you may know, I am a classic car freak. Looking at the cars on the show is a added bonus when watching. I liked the 1961 Plymouth Fury Convertible Eddie drove the time he quit school and offered to take Beaver for a ride in it. I also like the 1960 Fury Fred drove in the picnic episode and let's not forget the 1960 Corvette one of the Barrons drove. Another great car show is "My Three Sons" In the black and white years the show was sponsored by Chevrolet and all the latest models were shown. In the color shows, Pontiac took over and we got see the GTO's. I would love to have the 1964 LeMans convertible Robbie drove in the California shows.

I'm with you, Corvetteguy! One of the reasons I liked Route 66 so much was because of the neat cars Todd and Buzz drove. lol!
