View Full Version : Nancy know...
Nancy McKeon is my idol!! 08-12-2001, 08:49 AM I think NAncy knows the rumors about Jo or her being gay, I bet that's one reason that Nancy won't return to the FOL reuiion.
She thinks that people think she's gay too, that's sterotyping and she knows it.

Nancy's_Hott 08-12-2001, 11:21 AM Yeah, that does make a lot of sense. I'm just wondering why so many people have the idea that Jo's character was gay? I mean, she married for god's sake.
Bootsy Whoosh 08-12-2001, 12:29 PM So what you're saying is that Nancy is shallow and won't return to the Jo character because she doesn't want people to think she is "one of those people."
Personally, I think that Nancy is smarter and more independent than that. Some people think that Nancy herself is gay, not just the Jo character, and I'm sure she is probably aware of that. If she were that damn scared about it she would never have joined a show about 5 female cops in San Francisco, since that would only increase the stereotyping...
BlairandJo 08-12-2001, 12:58 PM How could that increase the stereotyping by her being on The Division..I mean think about
it look at who she plays...Jinny Exstead whom
is known for going to bars and getting drunk
then going home with some guy that she hardly knows then doing it all over again..I(meaning me only) doubt that would "increase
stereotyping"

Bootsy Whoosh 08-12-2001, 01:19 PM I have been to Division boards on the Lifetime site, and believe me, it increases sterotyping for 2 reasons. 1.) The stereotype that women cops are gay 2.) The stereotype of San Francisco being a gay mecca (well, this is true actually, San Francisco has a very large gay population, but the idea that a women cop in San Francisco would be gay is a common stereotype people had on those Division boards, and the stereotyping was usually coming from gay people who wanted someone on that show to be gay.)
Besides, having sex with a member of the opposite sex or being married is no preclusion against being gay. It is a well-known and documented fact that many gay people have heterosexual sex and even get married, in an effort to deny who they are and fit in. It may not happen as often anymore, since it is more acceptable in today's society to be gay, but I'm sure it does still happen.
nancysbiggestfan 08-12-2001, 02:21 PM I agree with what Lisa said completely. I mean I'm sure that to an extent Nancy does not care if people think she is or not becuz she knows she's not. BUT she wants to get away from that, and it just makes sense for her NOT to do the fol reunion for that reason.IMO.

Nancy McKeon is my idol!! 08-13-2001, 08:54 AM I think that's alos one reason she choose to audition for JINNY- JInny's supposed to go through sex partners like JO goes through Spark Plugs.
She probably thought if people saw her as a sl*t type she mite loose the gay image.
I mean she could have auditioned for C.D or Madga or anyone, she said the auditions were open to anybody!
I could have auditioned!!!!!!!!!!
Bootsy Whoosh 08-13-2001, 11:27 AM Nancy is a mature, smart, person, and I really prefer to think that she not as homophobic as you seem to think she is. I guess I could be wrong, but if her motivations are really what you think they are, then I have lost a tremedous amount of respect for her.
I don't doubt that she is trying to shed the Jo image, but I don't think it goes deeper than that.

Nancy loves the idea that Jo is a Gay Icon. Besides, her family allowed her to appear in a late 70s movie about a lesbian couple fighting for Gay Rights. The movie is called, "A question of love".
