Award), The Andy Griffith Show (Legend Award), Gilligan's Island (Pop Culture Award) and FOX's Arrested Development (Future Classic Award). The TV Land Awards was taped at The Hollywood Palladium and will air on TV Land and Nick at Nite on Wednesday, March 17 from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET/PT).

The full-blown homage to classic television featured unforgettable moments such as when acclaimed comedic actor Ben Stiller presented the cast of The Mary Tyler Moore Show with the "Groundbreaking Award" for one of television's earliest depictions of a single, successful career woman. Academy Award-winner Billy Bob Thornton presented the cast of The Andy Griffith Show with the "Legend Award" honoring the show's timeless and enduring appeal of life in a small North Carolina town. Cast members from Gilligan's Island accepted TV Land's "Pop Culture" Award for the popular sitcom's enduring comedy about castaways on a deserted island. The award was presented by CBS' Survivor All Stars. Academy and Emmy Award-winning actress Liza Minnelli presented Mitch Hurwitz, David Nevins and the cast of Arrested Development with the "Future Classic Award," which is presented to the one new show from the past calendar year which best exemplifies the qualities of an emerging television phenomenon.

Other memorable moments included Golden Globe-winning actress Sharon Stone presenting the "Bossiest Boss Award" to Danny Devito (Taxi); Emmy Award-winning actor Eric McCormack of Will and Grace performing a tribute song to Mary Tyler Moore and an opening medley which featured Cybill Shepherd singing the theme song to Moonlighting; Tony Orlando and Dawn singing "Tie a Yellow Ribbon" and Charlotte Rae and Lisa Whelchel singing the theme song to The Facts of Life. Classic TV stars Bea Arthur, Sally Struthers, Katherine Helmond and Charlotte Rae appeared in a hilarious spoof of Sex and the City;

Ritter also hosted last year's first TV Land Awards: A Celebration of Classic TV. The salute featured a clip package of Ritter's vast television work, including appearances on The Cosby Show and Wings with
actress Amy Yasbeck, whom he later married.

The tribute awards presented included the following:

GROUNDBREAKING AWARD
This award is presented to a show whose characters and stories changed the course of television history and reflected contemporary social issues. TV Land honored The Mary Tyler Moore Show as this year's recipient. Acclaimed comedic actor Ben Stiller presented the award to Mary Tyler Moore, Betty White, Cloris Leachman, Ed Asner, Gavin McLeod, John Amos and Valerie Harper.

LEGEND AWARD
This award is presented to a television series that has withstood the test of time and ranks among the most memorable and celebrated shows in TV history. This year's honoree is The Andy Griffith Show. Academy Award-winner Billy Bob Thornton presented the award to Andy Griffith, Don Knotts, Jim Nabors, Aaron Ruben, Betty Lynn, Earle Hagen, Elinor Donahue, George Lindsey, Harvey Bullock, Howard Morris and Maggie Peterson.

POP CULTURE AWARD
This award is presented to a show that has crossed the line from television series to pop culture phenomenon. TV Land acknowledges Gilligan's Island as this year's recipient. CBS Survivor All Stars Rudy Boesch, Tina Wesson, Jenna Morasca and Rob Cesternino presented the cast with this award. Bob Denver,
Dawn Wells, Tina Louise, Sherwood Schwartz, Lloyd Schwartz and Russell Johnson accepted on behalf of the show.

VISIONARY AWARD
In 1974, mainstream television went to the barrio for the first time with a situation comedy that saw the growing importance and relevance of Latino culture. In Chico and the Man, set in East L.A., an enterprising young Latino mechanic forges an unlikely partnership and eventually, friendship, with an older surly, white garage owner. The show starred Emmy-winning legend Jack
Albertson and the charismatic young Freddie Prinze as his cohort and antagonist. TV Land honors Chico and the Man for bringing a multicultural neighborhood to life and into the homes and neighborhoods all over America.
It was an important step forward. It was also the pinnacle of the
all-too-short career of Freddie Prinze. George Lopez presented this award to Freddie Prinze Jr., who accepted this award on behalf of his father, the late Freddie Prinze.

FUTURE CLASSIC AWARD
This award goes to the one show that TV Land feels best exemplifies the qualities of an emerging classic series that would one day fit its broad mix of award-winning line-up. This is the sixth consecutive year that TV Land has presented this award. (The series must have debuted during the past calendar
year.) Oscar and Emmy-winner Liza Minnelli presented this award to the cast and crew of Arrested Development - Jason Bateman, Portia DeRossi, David Cross, Jessica Walter, Will Arnett, Tony Hale, Michael Cera, Alia Shawkat and executive producers Mitch Hurwitz and David Nevins accepted on behalf of the show.

Also tonight, the network announced the winners of its viewers' choice poll for a variety of fun categories. Among the triumphant victors who picked up the precious TV Land statuette included:

Bossiest Boss
Danny DeVito, Taxi

Favorite Dual Role Character
Patty Duke, The Patty Duke Show

Favorite "Fan"-tastic Phenomenon
Farrah Fawcett, Charlie's Angels

Favorite Cantankerous Couple

Favorite Fashion Plate - Female

In addition to Revlon, other major sponsors include Mitsubishi, Sears, Orbitz, Ambien and Walgreens.

Michael Levitt (TV Land Awards 2003, Billboard Music Awards) serves as Executive Producer, Emmy-award winning Glenn Weiss as Director (2003 Tony Awards, Christmas in Washington, Star Search), Greg Sills as Supervising Producer (VH1 Divas, Billboard Music Awards), Michael Dempsey as Producer (Michael Jackson: 30th Anniversary Celebration, mtvICON), and Sal Maniaci and
Larry W. Jones also serve as Executive Producers.

I think this award is aawesome and that they gave it to Freddie is so wonderful and for his son to accept it on his behalf is so touching.
I think a DVD release of CATM is drfinately in order.
Pavanbadal, you seem to be in the know of things about TV Land is there any chance this wonderful recognition will cause them to bring CATM back on TV Land, are our posts on the TV Land board being heard?

Good news! Usually we go visit hubbys cousin & her hubby on Thurs nites. This week we're going on Wed instead of Thurs cuz her hubby has a sleep apnea test on Thurs. So hubbys cousin can tape the show for us & hopefully I can go into the other room every so often to see when the Freddie part will be on & hopefully see it live as well as having it on tape. Hubby & I will watch the tape of the whole thing later in the week...

Does anyone know when the the part with Freddie will air? So I'll know when to look out for it & see it live. Thanks! :) :)

I saw a commercial where Freddie Jr. is coming onstage to receive his father's award.

This is one of the best moments for us Freddie fans. To see Freddie's son receive this award.

Thank you TVLand for acknowledging Freddie Prinze!!! He deserves it...... :)

And for Fred Jr. (sniff :crying: ) I'm so proud of you.......... :crying:

It was wonderful to see George Lopez and Freddie Jr. up there letting the world know how wonderful a talent Freddie was. I almost cried too, and I think George went over to the side at one point when Junior first went up because he was fighting back tears!

They didn't show the category that CATM was nominated for, I wonder what was up about that, but oh well.... I do have the whole show on tape, it was hokey in parts, but overall a good show tonight....

I wanted to say I almost cried when they did the tribute to John Ritter as well. I was glad George was picked to do that one too. He had a big night!

I was able to get Mikes cousin to tape this for us. They were in the other room watching an old movie & his cousin was taping it off of the tv in the back bedroom. So I went to the bedroom alot to see the opening of it & check when Freddies part was up & watch it. It was so touching. I cried too & it had me sniffling alot. I needed a hanky but couldn't get up to go to the other room to get one outta my purse. Mike & I plan to watch the tape of it Thurs nite so I plan to have a hanky ready this time. Being just us I'll probably bawl my eyes out. :crying: George did a great job & I too noticed him in tears. Finally Jr is caring about his dad. It's about time all this happening for Freddie. What had me so upset when watching Freddie be tributed is the fact he is dead & can't be there to get his reward & recognition. That is so upsetting cuz he should be there. :crying: I bet if he was there he'd have been touched & probably cried. I noticed Tony Orlando was there due to tributing his show & singing on there. It looked like he looked really serious when they were tributing Freddie on there. If Freddie were there he'd have loved hanging out with Tony & George Lopez & he & George would've been new friends. I wish they had mentioned Scatman as they seem to have left him out. & I wish they would've had Mando on there...

As I watched the clips they showed of Freddie from the show, it made me realize why we all love Freddie & the show so much. It was so sad & touching. I sure hope Maria got to see it! It looks like it will be a good one to watch & I'm looking forward to seeing it all. I too had wondered what became of the category Chico & Ed were nominated in. Anyone know? Congrats to Freddie for getting this award & thanks to George Lopez for tributing him & being a fan. Thanks to all of you for sticking by him... :happyface

I was also upset cuz Davy Jones didn't get an award in the category he was nominated in, losing out to Farrah Fawcett. No offence to Farrah or her fans but Davy & the Monkees have tons of fans & we wanted to see him win! :(

I found the results on TVLANDS website & it looks like our votes didn't count much. :( For favorite Quintessential Non-Traditional Family the results are:

A Oscar Madison/Felix Unger The Odd Couple 43%

B The Drummonds and Jacksons Diff'rent Strokes 16%

C Chico Rodriguez and Ed Brown Chico and the Man 13%

D The Tanner/Katsopolis Clan Full House 28%

How could we have had the lowest votes with us having voted as much as we did???? :( :angryfire

YEAH TV LAND AWARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!

That was by far the best thing I've seen about Freddie Prinze for the longest time on television, MAYBE EVER!!!! What a nice tribute George Lopez gave to Freddie. You could really feel his sincerity. And of course, Freddie Jr. was absolutely adorable, AS USUAL!!!! I think he looks even more like dad as he gets older. He was so happy just watching such a positive recognition of his dad and when he said how proud he was of him it made my little 'ole heart feel just wonderful!!

Thank you George Lopez, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Della Reese for saying such beautiful words. And most of all thank you Larry W. Jones for recognizing true talent and reminding the rest of the world!!!!!!!)

The TVLAND awards are gonna be re-broadcast again tonite, I think at 8 pm. This is another chance to see Freddie's tribute again. :) Someone wrote on the TVLAND message boards that most all of the folks who won were folks that were living as TVLAND wanted to give the awards to folks who were still living. I bet that's why we lost out on our votes... :(
