That city was Boston, and the local ABC affiliate felt the rough and tumble nature of the students might have inflamed the city's racially tense school situation that was going on at the time after watching the first episode. In January of 76, WCVB TV felt the show was TONED down a lot from the pilot episode and decided to air Welcome Back Kotter for the city of Boston on January 22, 1976.
