View Full Version : Anyone else have this eye problem?
¤I Love Clay Aiken¤ 03-04-2004, 07:21 PM This all started back in 10th grade when the school was being majorly remodeled. Ever since then I noticed it in my eyes.
Anyways, I used to think they were lil pieces of dust hanging off my eyelashes, but my science teacher in 12th grade told me theyre called 'floaters' and are in your eyes. Its so annoying. I constantly see lil black things floating around that look like pieces of hair or dust magnified and when my eyes move, they move with them. Im still not 100% sure still of what they are and what caused it. Never noticed it til then. Also that year I noticed another eye thing- whenever Id pull something up to my face real close to look at and focused my eyes in the middle, theyd vibrate back and forth really quick. It used to happen randomly, but now I can make myself do it on command when I pull something towards my face and focus my eyes in the center. They vibrate longer now too, I can control it.
HuntingtonM15 03-04-2004, 07:29 PM My mom has the same problem with floaters. She's been to a few eye doctors about it and there's not much they can do. Well, I think there is one procedure to attempt to correct it, but it can be risky. She's just gotten used to them now.
I've had "floaters" all my life, but it doesn't happen too often and doesn't bug me.
Hollow 03-04-2004, 07:34 PM i think i have the floaters problem, i think its the same thing youre talking about. i noticed when i was really little. i pretty much just see them on command, they dont bother me or anything.. i told my dad awhile ago and he thinks its just dust but i know its not cause its not physical objects. i think its kind of imaginary.

Yea, I see them all the time. They never go away. Before, I used to think they were pieces of dust on my eye lashes, so that whole year Id just keep rubbing my eyes and looking.

You might want to see an eye doctor if it happens all the time.

Yah, I just got done reading about it online and it said if you start seeing flashes of light too or whatever, you def. need to get to a Dr. That hasnt happened yet. It also said that you can get laser surgery to correct, but my God it doesnt bother me that much lol, just annoying. I can only see them really well though when I look into a light background.. if its dark they blend right in.
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 03-04-2004, 07:58 PM I've never had a problem with that, but when I was younger and first started wearing glasses, when I would stare at one spot for a minute, I'd see this tiny circle with a dot inside of it...but it doesn't really happen anymore.
PZelda 03-04-2004, 08:05 PM Yeah...they're floaters. I have a disability in my eyes, and with what I have, you get floaters...The docs say you're born with it...I forgot what the full story on that was, but yeah. You just have to live with it and avoid looking at certain objects for too long, because them you get them.
It happens w/ me when I stare at snow or a clear sky for too long...That or being in a white room or looking at a dry erase board for too long (that's why I miss black chalkboards, they were easier on my eyes)...but it's something I have to live with.
I have an uncle that had a REALLY bad floater, and he had to go to the Mayo Clinic to have it corrected...And yes, it's a very risky procedure, so it should not be done unless you have a seriously big floater that is really interfering with your life. Otherwise, just get used to it. :)
Tuesday Weld 03-04-2004, 08:09 PM Yep, I have them all the time.

Yes, yes, yes, and YES. They dont obstruct my view and block objects though.
Bang A Gong 03-04-2004, 09:34 PM Oh yeah, I have had floaters for years. When I wear my glasses I can see them in the little nose pieces when I blink. Also, I can just be sitting there when these clear, circular, molecule looking type things just start blocking my vision. It's annoying.
Fleet 03-04-2004, 10:06 PM Yeah, I have them. Nearsighted people (of which I am one) are more prone to having them.
The "floaters" are material left over when the eye was formed. Usually, nothing to worry about, but if there are a lot (like dozens upon dozens) if could mean a detached retina.
Usually, the brain learns to ignore floaters. I've noticed they do seem to fade after a while. But, it's really irritating looking at a bright sky.

That was it!! Thank you! And I am nearsighted, too. (I've had to wear glasses since I was 4 in 1989) It's annoying, but I've gotten used to them.
You're right...I've noticed a lot of my floaters fading. They've been pretty bad lately, though. I started school again in January, and two of my classrooms have REALLY white walls...and it brings out the floaters and makes my head hurt, so I always have a headache when I come home from school. :p
TheHappyBurgerMeister 03-04-2004, 10:48 PM I never had those, but it's weird because we were just talking about that in my med. term. class since we're on the eyes and ears chapter. I never heard of them before until we starting talking about them.
dawsongirl 03-04-2004, 10:54 PM I have them. My mom said it's due to excessive dryness. And they never go away. :cuss:
~*Hannah_Lee*~ 03-04-2004, 11:18 PM I've never had anything like that...thank goodness. I have bad enough eyesight already. I'm really bad nearsighted. I can relate to you guys talking about how looking at white rooms and white boards for a long time. When I look at writing and stuff on the white board or on paper, things start to go kinda in and out of focus...gets really irritating when you're trying to copy notes.
EricIdlefan 03-04-2004, 11:55 PM I have a kind of a hard time stimulating between near and far sighted and I have to have glasses to drive and/or watch tv and sometimes to see things that are far off!!

Wow... glasses at age 4. I didn't have any until age 17 (but I don't wear them anymore because I'm only a little nearsighted).
I've noticed that when wearing sunglasses, the floaters are much less noticable.
Czas na Zywiec 03-05-2004, 12:58 AM I got those eye floaters once or twice before, but I figured it was because of the crap that collects on my contacts when they're in the solution overnight.
Crimson and Clover 03-05-2004, 11:16 AM Yep, I have them.

I am afraid to have contacts because I am afraid I might lose them since I lose stuff very, very, easily!!
