I read somewhere that the actress who played Lumpy's mother was a star of the 1940's. Somthing like that and died within a short time of the series premiere. There were different actresses and name for Mrs Rutheford. Gwen Rutherford was one. I believe another G name was mentioned. Does anyone know about the actresses who played mrs Rutherford? Thank you.

The first actress was Helen Parrish, whose character was Geraldine Rutherford. When Majel Barrett took over, they changed the name to Gwendolyn.

I just looked up Helens bio and said she died in 1959 at the age of 37 of cancer. so sad.

When the name was Gwendolyn, called Gwen by Fred Rutherford, it is Majel Barrett, Gene Roddenberry's wife. She is around 70 today. She looks so young!:talk:

Gwen Rutherford was very personable and attractive. What did she ever see in Fred??? I guess Violet got Gwen's genes, and Lumpy got Fred's!
