I really think that it's a systemwide thing because I've been having problems with it too.
Is yours doing the same thing Brian, non of my friends are having trouble though.

if you have a dialup connection on your computer that could be causing it. If not then I don't know what to say- I use AOL myself. Sorry if this doesn't help
No I have comcast, but hopefully eventually I'll figure out the problem, thanks guys!

Right there is your problem. Having comcast as an internet provider. I heard from lots and lots of people who have had comcast as their internet provider having lots of trouble with it messing up their computer big time. I also heard that comcast and AOL do not like each other, when AOL tried to buy out Comcast and Comcast refused to sell, so naturally AOL would do something as to let some of its services not work with Comcast.
I also had Comcast like you did and yes AOL messenger would not work for me either, and yes comcast internet almost ruined my computer had to by a new motherboard and reformat. So I had to change internet providers, lucky the only other provider in my area that had cable was Adelphia, I like Adelphia, not saying you would like it or want to change providers. If it continues to give you problems with AOL and your computer give Comcast a call.
Another thing is that Comcast internet provider runs way to fast for alot of peoples computers and they do not realize that. So maybe it runs to fast for your computer.
