You took my words: no contest-->WBK

I guess the similarity between the two is that they're both based in urban high schools, featuring a witty teacher and not the brightest students, with said teacher sort of always at odds with the principal (or vice principal in WBK's case.)

No comparison because TSHS only had two guys, and WBK had 4 guys

What sense does that make? It's tv shows, not algebra!

Thank you vashti1999, that is why I compaired these two shows. Both are shows are about urban schools with not to bright students. Also the Lori Beth Denberg character from "the Steve Harvey show" does remind me of the Judy character from "Welcome Back Kotter".

Yesterday on TBS, I saw an episode of "the Steve Harvey show" when the students protest the school uniforms, and it reminds of the episode of "Welcome Back Kotter" when the students protest the school lunch menu. To quote Mr. Woodman, "Who is this Handcock kid?" Also, by at the end of both shows runs, both teachers were promoted to Vice Principal.

I agree I am going with Kotter on this one, though I think as comedians Steve Harvey and Cetric the Entertainer are much funnier than Gabe Kaplin.

But both shows great, and are two of the best sitcoms about teachers. Much better than "Mr. Rhodes" and "Nick Freno: License Teacher" and other sitcoms about teachers that are awful.

By the way, I remember "the Steve Harvey show" came on the same season, the same network, and maybe the same night as "Nick Freno: License Teacher", and maybe by comparison, people liked "the Steve Harvey show" a lot, because Nick Freno was so awful.

Actually, when you think about it, there are some similarities. In addition to the urban high school setting, less than bright students and light friction between the teacher and (vice) prinicipal, both shows featured characters involved in performing arts, Kotter as a stand up comedian and Steve Hightower a soul singer. Both shows had the young dumb hunk character (Barbarino & Romeo.) Both shows focused almost exclusively on the male students. Both lead characters had the first name and first initial of the last name of the actors who played them (Gabe Kaplan/Kotter, Steve Harvey/Hightower.) Okay, maybe I'm reaching with that one. Anyway, the big difference between them is one show was funny and the other one wasn't.
