What makes the decision between a show you would buy and a should you wouldnt buy??

And are special features a deciding factor??

(speaking in terms of shows already on DVD....)

I buy TV-DVDs (in season sets of course)
of either Shows that i LOVE like Cheers, Frasier, Three's Company, I Love Lucy, The Dick Van Dyke Show

Or shows that i like very much.... but cant see on TV
like Green Acres, Mary Tyler Moore, The Jeffersons and What's Happening!!

Special features never make or break the set.... but I like it better when they're available

The older the show is, the more that is cut out for syndication and the poorer video quality what is shown on TV is.

Thus, with shows like I Love Lucy and Dick Van Dyke = much more footage, drastically improved video quality

Also, if a show isn't shown on a network at all or at a good time.

Or, if it is just a show that I really love. Frasier, for instance. Or Star Trek Voyager. Even Pokemon. (Bonus is that I had seen hardly any of the first two seasons of this show when I bought the DVDs)

For me, bonus features are just that...a bonus. I don't have to have them, just having episodes of my favorite series on dvd is enough for me. It's not like I won't buy it simply because there's no bonus stuff (though movie dvds are a different story.) It depends on how much I like the show. Whether I'll watch it once and forget it or if I'll keep coming back. I'd like to have the Starsky & Hutch set for nostalgia's sake but that's one that'll have to wait til I'm rich.

Even though I have every episode on tape of Buffy from it's original run on the WB and UPN, I still buy the DVDs for a back up in case one of my tapes mess up.

Basically, I'll buy the DVD if I like the show or it has a star in it who is one of my favs.

Plus, DVDs have clearer pictures, *hopefully* they are uncut, edited well, last longer than tape, and many have awesome extras.

I'll only buy Shows I like, Or If I like the show a little and the DVD is cheap then I'll buy it.

Only if it is a show that I love will I buy the DVD. I would ESPECIALLY buy it if the show isn't being shown on television and has no chance of being shown. Like for the Cheers DVDs, I am waiting around for the Rebecca years DVDs because those were my favorites. I don't want to waste my money on episodes of Cheers with Diana since I love Rebecca so much better.

if I like the show, I will buy the DVD.

Even recent sitcoms like Friends have stuff cut out on tv, every episode on DVD has some "bonus scenes" that never made it to NBC because they considered it "filler space", so it comes as a nice bonus

Plus, you never know when a show you like is going to be taken off syndication (look at Three's Company suddenly disappearing off Nick's schedule)

I don't buy the current shows on DVD. If it is a show that has replay value (in other words, if it is a show that I feel I can watch over and over again) then I will buy it. I'd buy Green Acres, Lost in Space, My Favorite Martian, and shows that aren't "mystery" shows. "Mystery shows" are shows like CSI, CSI: Miami, Law & Order, Murder, She Wrote, etc. Basically those are shows that aren't good watching the second time because you know "whodunit."

Oddly enough I Have Many TV DVDs I Havent even watched yet or Rarely watch. Sanford & Son Season 2 for example has only been in my DVD Player Once since i bought it Over half a year ago. Of course with that Being aired So Much On TV Land the past year Thats probably the reason.

I Think I Just Like Knowing i Own them In Case they ever stop airing On TV. Ill Occasionally watch an episode of One My All In The Family, Simpsons or Sanford and Son DVDs, But Im More likely to watch My Jeffersons DVD or Anouther DVD Of a show not currently airing.

Special Features are always nice too.

Simple - I want to be able to see my favorite shows uncut. Being able to watch an episode on command is pretty cool, too.

Special features don't really weigh into my decision of whether or not to buy a DVD. They're nice, but not mandatory.

Actually, my favorite special feature is on an otherwise rather bare-bones DVD series: being able to turn the god-awful laugh track off on M*A*S*H is a godsend and makes the show so much better.

I buy TV show DVD's because I like to watch my favorite shows uncut and unedited. Plus I have the convenience of watching them whenever I feel like it :) I also like to buy the rare shows that aren't shown on TV much anymore. I just hope more of them come out soon.

exactly, with the tv DVD's I have, I've watched the documentaries or whatever once, and never again. They're nice, but the real reason you're buying the DVD's are for the episodes
