Okay so I broke my ankle Monday and I've been in a cast since Tuesday morning. Last night I started getting the infamous "cast itches". You'd think that getting an itch wouldn't really be so bothersome but when it's in the deepest part of your cast and you have NO WAY to scratch it it double and triples how bad it really itches. I went to Walmart this morning and got one of those really really skinny dowel sticks, the wooden ones. OMG I'm gonna patent those things because it works so well. It feels better than.....everything :) I'm so happy I can scratch my itches now :happyface

5 more weeks to go!

 I've never had a cast, but I can so imagine how it feels.

Another interesting tip that I picked up from somebody is put a butter knife in a fridge or freezer (your choice) for a few hours -- then the next time you have a cast itch (within reach of the butter knife, of course), take it out of the freezer and scratch it with the butter knife. I have heard it's supposed to feel a lot better when you use one that way. :D

I've never had a cast either but I can imagine itching and not being able to scratch. I think I'd go insane!

Most of my itches right now are showing up at my ankle, my good ankle. It's my right one that's broken and it's the right side that is broken but the left side is the one that is itching all the time and there is no way I can reach into that. Horrible.

I LOVE MY STICK!

It's good to know that, though. I'm glad you found something to itch with. :D

I never had a cast before either but when I had my surgery they put these boots on you that squeeze your legs so you don't get blood clots after wearing those for a while the itchiness was so bad I wanted to cut my legs off.

When I was seven I was pulling a picture from a mirror and the huge, I mean really huge mirror fell on my right foot and I had a cast on for two to three months and itched all the time and took like a stick and kept itching it and it just felt so good!! Like I said I was only seven but remember the hurt and pain!! Ouch!!

Oh for good God sake I wasn't talking about that. Having my foot stuck in a 20 pound cast that I can't get into is driving me nuts and having found a way to scratch inside of it has been a wonder. EXCUSE me for thinking it feels good.

I have been using a metal spoon (one you put in a pot to get stuff out) but sometimes that doesnt even work as its too far down!!

I sure hope Nanny got thru that time OK and hasnt had a cast since.......
