Endora needed to lighten up. She spent all these years telling Samantha to leave Darrin and the mortal way of life for a life of magic, and Samantha kept telling her to back off. Right on, Sam! No matter what Endora did to break up the marraige, Samantha never gave in to her mother's wishes, a sure sign of independence and having her own mind. That's what endeared us to "Bewitched".

I want to tell her to lighten up!! She just hates Darrin because he's a mortal :(

But her reasons for feeling this way weren't unfounded.

Was this the writers' way of dealing with bigotry??? Endora probably would have reacted the same way if Sam had married a black man.

I kind of feel for Endora. After all, Samantha did marry someone not of her species, so therefore kind of breaking tradition for future family assets.

I can feel for her! My sister wants to marry a black man. I wouldn't like to have a black brother-in-law. (I don't have anything against African-Americans at all, just like for Endora, it'd break the tradition.)
