View Full Version : Threads that "jump the shark"

We all know that tv shows have moments when they jump the shark, but i've noticed that this can also happen in the threads on SO. One example I can think of when a thread "jumps" is the point when people start rehashing the same points in an argument over and over in one thread(this happens alot on the politics board:) ).

Another is the point in the thread where the discussion veers from the initial subject of the thread, to a totally different discussion.

Can anyone think of any other times when a thread "jumps the shark"?

The moment someone compares President Bush to Hitler, the thread has immediately jumped the shark for me.

When the only thing that a member contributes to a thread is sarcasm, it's a shark jumper.

When I see 3 or 4 members laughing or being rude to a person, I consider it a jump the shark moment.

I used to surf when I was younger but I suddenly was afraid of sharks!! It reminds me of that brave, little girl who lived in California and lost her arm to that shark!! I hope she recovers soon I'll be praying for her!! (size)(color)

Well, you know a thread jumps the shark when you scroll down the page and see a post from Janice with one thing in it:

Shark attacks seem to be the "in" thing these days since people are afraid to go into the beach/oceans

In several instances when a person corrected another person's grammar, the threads jumped the shark.

When someone makes an off-topic post, the thread will more often than not jump the shark 8 times out of 10 (not necessarily in a bad way)
