View Full Version : How sad was the last episode? Junaid Aslam 02-23-2004, 10:56 AM Elyse acting all hysterical and unreasonable. Mallory and Jennifer witht heir tape measure in Alex's bedroom. FamilyTiesGOP 02-23-2004, 04:29 PM My two favorite characters are Alex and Elyse, so I hated to see them fight. musicradio77 02-29-2004, 11:09 PM I've never seen the last episode before. It thought it was great. EmoJoe 05-04-2004, 03:09 PM Is the last episode sad? I have never seen it! McFly121 05-27-2004, 06:14 PM Oh, ok, you mean sad in a stupid way, cuz that's how I felt. A bunch of dumb fighting, Fox dressed up like a tooth(!!!), stupid slapstick (Alex pinned against a wall while moving a trunk), and the business like shaking hands, then a much too quick "Love you guys" freeze-frame. Huge disappointment. Still remember radio DJs the next morning trashing it. McFly121 05-28-2004, 09:14 PM Not trashing, just a critisism. I didn't enjoy it and voiced my opinion. Lot of people have done the same, some enjoyed, some didn't. Everyone has a right to that. Mr. Television 05-28-2004, 09:18 PM I thought Family Ties had one of the best finals ever. I don't remember any DJ's making fun of it. Then again I don't pay attention to what any old DJ has to say. I know it finished as the #1 show of the week. McFly121 05-29-2004, 04:06 AM A bigger deal than needed is being made of these DJs. They weren't the only ones disappointed, the LA Times, tv guide, kids the next day at my school, a lot of people felt it was under par. You liked it, good for you, but this forum is for opinions, not the bashing of opinion. Mr. Television 05-29-2004, 04:13 AM You have every right to your opinion on the last show. This is my opinion. Everyone I knew liked it. I didn't get the LA times so I don't know about that but I still got the TV Guide from when Family Ties ended and I don't remember any criticism of it in there. McFly121 05-29-2004, 05:26 AM Well, there's a million newspapers nationwide, lots of different thoughts. It was in tv guide the next week that the finale was me with less than satisfied reaction. From google groups: "How about a finale that laid an egg? The most annoying one, I thought was "Family Ties" finale. It had Alex leaving his family to go work on Wall Street. Big deal. Nothing else was resolved so what was the point of having one?" "Family Ties-Alex moves to New York City. Series had overstayed it's welcome by that point, the finale wasn't really that great but damn does television miss Michael J. Fox." "I did like the final Family Ties episode because the mother and son really let their emotions come out. When people fight on TV, the yelling is usually muted, but occassionally the passion really comes through--the yelling turns into screaming (rare on sitcoms). The scenes between Alex and Elyse in the FT finale were an example of that." "The only other time on a sitcom I remember such passion was on the finale episode of Family Ties, when the mother unloaded her fury on Alex (apparently based on real emotions with the show ending)." Mixed seems to be the outcome. AKA 05-29-2004, 08:34 PM You can be a fan of the show and not like the finale, Jen. I, for one, thought it was less-than-stellar. In fact, for the most part, the last two seasons were kinda awful. McFly121 05-29-2004, 08:45 PM Uh, (laughing), I'm a Family Ties fan. Doesn't mean I liked everything they put to tape. Some episodes were great, some stunk it up. If you're actually going to tell me you thought every ep was great...no way. Go to any board and the most ardent of fans for a show will critisize at times. No different here. AKA 05-29-2004, 08:48 PM Originally posted by McFly121 Uh, (laughing), I'm a Family Ties fan. There are a lot of awful episodes of Family Ties (no show is perfect), especially the ones produced after Brian Bonsall came along and Jennifer got the poodle-hair wig. McFly121 05-29-2004, 08:59 PM Jen, who's making fun? I'm offering an opinion, I didn't like something and mentioned it. Fans do it all the time. You don't like something a characters did (or moreso what a writer made a character do), or a certain storyline, or a finale. What I liked? A My Name Is Alex is awesome, Alex and Ellen hooking up, Alex's 18th birthday, when the house is rented out, Alex and Elyse in auto mechanic's class. Lot of good ones. But not every time. Dean Winchester 05-30-2004, 02:02 PM Originally posted by Jen1989 While you're intitled to your opinion, keep in mind that this is the Family Ties board. People who come here just like any other board are fans of the show. We shouldn't have to read critism of our favorite show. If you don't like Family Ties or just didn't like the finale fine, but the way you expressed your thoughts can hit a "nerve" so to speak. If you don't want to be "bashed" because of your negative opinions of the finale/and or show, then keep your dislike of it to yourself. I don't come to the Family Ties board to read bad things about Family Ties, so if you want to post mean things about Family Ties, please take it somewhere else, where the rest of us don't have to read it. no offense, but check the screen name of the poster, pretty safe to say he's a fan considering it's a MJF reference FamilyTiesGOP 05-30-2004, 03:36 PM The fighting really needs to stop. The last episode wasn't my favorite, but it wasn't bad either. And it definately wasn't sad in a "stupid way" either as was mentioned. The fighting was a legitiment storyline considering that Alex was leaving forever and Elyse was feeling like a mother should about it. That was a perfectly good storyline. The story about Andy's play was a little dumb, but not stupid. The ending, while not stellar, was nice too. A whole group shot of most of the entire cast is approriate for a family comedy. Family comedies do not always have spectacular finishes anyway. Anybody that truly hates the finale just had expectations that were too high in my opinion. FamilyTiesGOP 05-30-2004, 05:10 PM Originally posted by Jen1989 I'm sorry for arguing. Don't be, you know that diehard Family Ties fans do get a little defensive when it comes to criticism of FT.:) I hate hearing negative stuff too. snl fan 08-18-2004, 02:46 AM i didnt care too much for most of the fanle but i did like the last part where he walked back into the house and said i love you guys that was a nice touch |
