View Full Version : Hey...Check out the end of the episode "Breaking the Lease"
x1LucyFanx 02-22-2004, 10:44 PM LOL...I was cracking up, watching the ending of "Breaking the Lease" when they do the dance "El Breako the Leaso" and Fred and Ethel walk in with the ceiling that fell down all over them, watch carefully as Lucy and Desi crack up...I don't think they were suppose to laugh on purpose...just watch Lucy's face, she tries so hard to hold in her laugh.
SPLAIN 02-23-2004, 11:08 AM Yes, one of those RARE instances where it seems real and not written in the script.
Kazza 02-23-2004, 02:04 PM My favorite part of that ep is when Lucy suggest Ricky to rehearse there:"We are going to blow the roof of this joint". It seemed like both were enjoying themselves so much while doing that dance and BOTH were holding their laughter at the Fred and Ethel sight
SPLAIN 02-23-2004, 02:50 PM Maybe they couldn't rehearse them being all covered with that mess like that so then Lucy and Desi saw them for the one and only time looking like that, covered in plaster and even a chandelier, yeah, that would make me laugh also!

Yes... because Lucy was no fun! See, Desi never worried about that. He was always laughing on camera!
:)

And behind them too.You could hear his laugh a mile away. LOL
SPLAIN 02-24-2004, 02:04 PM I know, so professional, it amazes me that they never gave him an Emmy for that! LOL! All actors should break character every chance they get, it would avoid the need for awards to reward excellence. You see, only when you provoke me, LOL!
Mickey 02-24-2004, 06:16 PM :) It only seems bad when you compare it to today, though. Back in the fifties, scenery moved, you saw the wires on Flash Gordon's spaceship, you'd see the shadows of the camera and the sound boom - it was a totally different world, in terms of TV standards. Plus there was limited time for filming, etc. One of my favourite shows is Doctor Who, and back in the earliest episodes, from 1963 on, they'd be broadcasting episodes with screwed up dialogue in - because they didn't have time to reshoot. Also in those days a lot of drama went out live, so the viewers were used to mistakes anyway. It was supposed to be just like watching a play at the theatre.
Anyway, I like it when Desi laughs - and so should you! It shows he appreciates Lucy! :)

The Sci-Fi channel shows stuff like that with very old fashioned special effects:rolleyes: It's good to know I wasnt alone when Dr Who was on; I watched it all the time:) And yes, Desi's laughing behind the scenes was great at showing how someone can be so open at emotions and enjoys his partners work
x1LucyFanx 02-24-2004, 09:53 PM Well...I dunno I laughed harder at Lucy's face, just the way she tried so hard to hold it in and it was such a treat to see her laughing. ;)
SPLAIN 02-25-2004, 10:33 AM Then get your hands on a copy of Lucy meets The Berles. She pours a salad on his head, and they hadn't rehearsed it with the dressing and everything and when it started coming down his face and neck, he was dying to ad lib but had been warned by her not to until the dialogue was totally done and the show finished, Milton could hardly do his lines, he couldn't see properly and the dialogue barely got out, but Lucy laughed ONLY the minute the director had yelled CUT and the scene was totally over, that's what a pro does. But i too enjoy Desi's laugh on any of the shows.
crazyredhead 02-25-2004, 06:39 PM Finaslly decided to watch that episode after having it for two years! LOL
Very funny! :D
I love it how Desi laughs at everything, lightens up the show. And his laugh..too much! LOL
it's like he's saying...
"AHHAHAHAHAHAHA..."
SPLAIN 02-26-2004, 10:31 AM Yes his laugh was definitely genuine and heartfelt!
Mkaleek 02-28-2004, 03:44 AM I caught the episode of "Lucy Meets The Berles", and I saw the part where she poured the salad all over Milton's head. As much of a pro as Milton Berle is, you could see him trying to hold back laughs too. I don't think it has anything to do with professionalism, but more with how well you can hold back a laugh, and for that I give Lucy credit. Improvisation can catch the best of us off-guard.
SPLAIN 03-01-2004, 11:00 AM Exactly, the only times you see Lucy lose it are on Bob Hope things, because of the lack of rehearsal and Hope's constant penchant for doing one liners, but they were usually edited out of the shows. I saw some of those outtakes on one of his specials and it was so surprising to see HER like that, we so seldom did. On the Berle show, you have to wonder when he answers her if it was scripted or not, "listen to you? I Can't even SEE you!"
Lodee 03-01-2004, 03:44 PM You're right, those outtakes are funny, especially the DA ones. I saw the Milton Berle episode with the salad on his head and you're right about that too, it is funny. You're 2 for 2, want to go for 3 for 3?:) ;)
SPLAIN 03-01-2004, 04:22 PM Wasn't that a pip when she slapped Bob and had that serious look on her face? He was fondling her alot! Like he didn't have enough women stashed all over Hollywood for that!
SPLAIN 03-01-2004, 04:31 PM Oh, and if you want a funny Lucy scene that nobody ever mentions, try the Danny Thomas Lucy Desi comedy hour, when she's at the edge of the bed and he's nuzzling her on the neck thinking it's his wife, that scene was priceless! The faces she makes and then what she does when Cathy walks in on them, priceless i tell ya! LOL!
Mkaleek 03-02-2004, 04:07 AM i acutally really think bob and lucy had some secret affair. i mean, they were too comfortable fondling and kissing each other! I saw this sketch with them planning to run away together. lucy was trying to persuade bob to leave his wife, and she was gonna leave gary. in between all of these happenings, they are kissing, fondling, like they've been doing it behind the scenes for years. i don't know, they were very good friends. then again, maybe they were more than that on the low...
SPLAIN 03-02-2004, 10:40 AM I don't want to speculate on THAT, but i agree with you and had the same thoughts. Bob had a harem of beauties all over Hollywood, he rivaled Desi in the number of conquests he had over the years. And Lucy, well, she had a few affairs like all Hollywood stars did, and still do, back then, it was ordinary, like Humphry Bogart once said when seing all the gorgeous people at a Hollywood party, no wonder they all **** each other!
Lodee 03-02-2004, 02:56 PM Hey Mkaleek, is that the one where Bob sends the Christmas present to her house and she thinks it's for her?
SPLAIN 03-02-2004, 05:07 PM Of course it is, he got the tape from me hon! Are you insinuating that Lucy would actually REPEAT the same material in other instances? Yeah, like that could happen! Next thing you'll tell me is Lucy got her ring stuck on her finger in more than one storyline, LOL!
Lodee 03-02-2004, 06:49 PM Lucy got her ring stuck on her finger in more than one episode.......................................:)
Mkaleek 03-03-2004, 12:15 AM Hahaaah, thanks again Splain! By the way, I didn't know Bob Hope got around like that. Must've been the nose.

SPLAIN 03-03-2004, 10:34 AM What am I wasting MY time on here then for, mine's even bigger!
SPLAIN 03-03-2004, 10:35 AM Yes Bob had houses and property all over town, which was known for years, but he had some gorgeous ladies taking care of those properties in some cases, LOL!

So, you are doing Lucy in the early 50's with her timing inmaculate or Lucy in the 80's??:D
SPLAIN 03-03-2004, 04:39 PM Lucy's timing in the 80's might have been slowed by age and ailments, but at least you could still understand her when she spoke. I hear Desi's Saturday Night Live stint comes with subtitles!
