I was just looking over the list of Oscar nominations for my annual Oscar pool, when I came to the "Best Song" catagory, and I realized something...
I have never heard of any of these songs.
"Into the West" - THE LORD OF THE RINGS
"A Kiss at the End of the Rainbow" - A MIGHTY WIND
"Scarlet Tide" - COLD MOUNTAIN
"The Triplets of Belleville" - THE TRIPLETS OF BELLEVILLE
"You Will Be My Ain True Love" - COLD MOUNTAIN
I don't listen to much top 40 radio, are any of these songs playing on any stations?
I remember when at least one song on the nomination list was some kind of hit (Celine's "Titanic" song comes to mind) but is seems like there have been very few Oscar songs in recent years that were actually heard before Oscar night.
Any thoughts?

You've got a point -- not an overplayed diva-esque ballad in the bunch. I know the tendency has traditionally been that if there's a very popular but very syrupy ballad on the list ("My Heart Will Go On" is a perfect example), that song will probably take home the Oscar. But things have been changing -- I was quite surprised when the song from Monsters Inc. won two years ago and downright floored when Eminem took the prize for "Lose Yourself" last year. So all bets are officially off.
I know that wasn't quite what you were asking, and to answer that, no, I haven't heard much of these songs at all. I think I heard "You Will Be My Ain True Love" once, but that was about it.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Eminem last year,
Actually I kind of blocked it out of my mind.

That song doesn't ring a bell. Can you hum a few bars? ;)

My Heart Will Go On and On and On and On and On and On, etc..
The song not only burned a hole in my brain, but in the earth's ozone layer as well.

Catherine O'Hara and Eugene Levy are performing this song at the Oscars. That's the only reason I'm watching lol. I think It'll win.

Yes, that should be funny.
I wonder if they're going to be "in character."

This is great. I can't wait to see it.
I loved the movie and the song. Anyone who loved A Mighty Wind has to see Best In Show.
