That's a good question. I think most of his commitment issues stem from having lost Sara. He's afraid of losing another wife again (That's what he told Fran in "Tart with Heart.") But then we don't really know much about Maxwell's life before Fran came into it, so who knows? That could be a good idea for a fic ;)
