This morning I was driving my car and listening to a local call-in show on the radio. The host was talking about the finale of "Sex In The City" being on this weekend, and then he started a topic discussion about the greatest TV series finales.

He praised the finales of "M*A*S*H", "St. Elsewhere", "Cheers", "Newhart", "Mary Tyler Moore", "The Fugitive" (the original version) and others....but did NOT mention "Wings".

I pulled over, stopped my car and called the host on my cell phone. When I got through, I mentioned the finale of "Wings" to him, and he shrugged it off, saying "Aw, I never watched that show", and acted like it wasn't even worth talking about...Like it wasn't in the same "league" with the "important" series that HE was mentioning.....

Well, I really snapped at THAT bait! I proceeded (politely, but FIRMLY) to tell him that he didn't know what he was missing by not watching "Wings"....and I gave a capsule synopsis of how the "Wings" series ended.
The host sounded unimpressed (and frankly, a little bored) with my raving about the "Wings" finale....but after my call, and during the remainder of the hour-long call-in show, FIVE people called in to say things like, "Yeah, the "Wings" finale WAS good!" and "Joe, I can't BELIEVE that you NEVER watched "Wings"! That was a great show!".

My call had turned the call-in show into a mini-"Wings" tribute! The host was probably ready to KILL me, but I just listened, smiled and thought to myself, "My work here is done!". :)

I can't understand why the show is so popular... oh yeah, it's a softcore porn soap opera 'Friends' ripoff that the gossip loving, Us/People Magazine reading "independent womyn" demographic loves! Along with the WE Network's reality shows and Lifetime womyn-in-peril made-for-tv-movies!
If that isn't flamebait, I don't know what is.
Sorry, but I just don't like what my own sex seems to regard as entertainment.

Anyway, other than my rantings, it's nice to see the board gaining some activity again. This has been a rather strange week for the online communities.
Well, this post will gain alot of traffic, because there are a lot of 'Sex and the City' fans out there.

I can't stand Sex and the City either :barf: Good riddance to bad rubbish. That's another show that I can't understand why it gets so much praise and attention.

OK, here we go again. I like Sex & the City although I haven't seen anything from the last 3 seasons, but I have the 1st 3 seasons on videotape(I don't have any of those premium channels, so I've never seen it when it airs on HBO).

Anybody who doesn't like the show, that's fine by me. It's not for everybody. There are plenty of shows out there that everybody just loves, that I don't like. But I have to agree about the part about the 'over-exposure' the past week or so of SATC. There was something on Primetime Live last night, they were all on Oprah the other day, and Kristen Davis was on Conan the other night. As Phoebe would say on Friends "Stop the madness!!" I mean, it was just a show and it was only on for 6 years. I can see if it was on for 15 years. Then we can talk. Speaking of Friends, geez, could NBC get any more sappier with their promotional commercials? "Only a few more episodes left". Makes me want to puke. You all know I love the show, but in a way, I can't wait for it all to be over, just so I won't have to hear that anymore.

Anyhoo, getting totally off-topic with what Pilotguy has posted(sorry!!), great what you did. I think I would've done the same thing. You got lucky though. I've tried to call into those shows and even though I get through sometimes, they keep me on hold so long, then they start on another topic, and by then, what's the point?!! I would've loved to see the host's reaction when all the other people were calling in about Wings. Or was it just you everytime, just using a different voice?!!:lol: Oh, I'm just "funnin'" with you!!

Sorry, but I disagree, I absoultely LOVE Sex and the City. I have all the seasons on DVD.

Oh, I plan to get the last 3 seasons. I think the show is funny--Carrie gets the best lines. AngeFaitore wrote Sarah Jessica Parker as horseface. I always thought Sarah was gorgeous, even 20 years ago when she was a cute kid in Footloose.

What, is the show offensive to all of you, with it's language and sex talk? Gee, then I can't understand why the word SEX is in the title. Maybe it's because I'm not very conservative. There is not too much that shocks me, in the TV world or in real life. I wish I had 3 friends to talk sex talk to. There, my secret is out!!

It's not offensive to me, it's ANNOYING!
People talk too much about sex today, like it's some priority in life! I'm actually sick of sex to the point where even I don't want to have it now... and I'm a virgin!
I think I'm going to cut out my own genetalia soon because I'm so sick of hearing about sex.

I NEVER found any of the men from that show attractive, either. I found them rather fugly. At least John Corbett bailed out while he could. He was the only cast member that had acting TALENT!

Ah, I think people either like it for the fake sex scenes or the "Funny-Female-Eminem-Style Liberation" (BTW, Eminem's debut came about the same time as SATC's premiere in 1998. Ain't that a ka-winky-dink? With 1998 came the birth of crap pop culture!).
The only thing that I think womyn need to liberate for is a higher paycheck. We don't seem have the right to the five or ten dollars more that men make. Then again, does it really matter when the government is taking away 10% of the cut?

As for my childfree bit, yes, I have been lurking around alt.support.childfree on Google Groups for a few months now. I'm really intrigued by the childfree lifestyle and all the little names they make up for man, woman and child. Moomie, Duh-dee and Sprog or Momee Duh-dee and Goldensprog (Goldensprog are spoiled children).
When I refer to children as Sprogs, people will look at me and go "huh?". :rolleyes:

You know, I have that Wings fanfic on my website and I see my site statistics that show how people surf into the site. A whole bunch of people are searching for "Tom Nevers Field wings." Now, if they were just searching for "Tom Nevers Field" or "Nantucket" I would think they were interested in baseball... but since they add "wings" to the search, what do you make of that?

As for Sex in the City, ITA that I couldn't stand the show. Not that I think sex is boring!! hee hee. But I just don't appreciate all the sex talk either... and in the way that they do it... like it's a form of entertainment. Gee, let's see a movie, OR, how about we have sex? :eek:

Let's turn it into an MP3 post!

Over this long, boring vacation, I decided to rip songs off of almost every CD in my music collection.
I've never made an MP3 before.
I now have a big collection of Windows Media Player MP3s on my computer.
Some of these CDs I barely listen to now, so I got alot of great memories out of the mid-90s when I popped in Hootie and the Blowish, Ace of Base and stuff like that. Mostly the memories consisted of either reading the Sonic the Hedgehog comic book back in it's prime, playing with my SEGA Genesis or just third, fourth or fifth grade flashbacks.
Now I need to get some writable CDs...


BTW, do any of you own Simpsons Sing the Blues, Songs in the Key of Springfield or The Yellow Album (yes, I'm a HUGE Simpsons fan)? Those CDs kick major ass just for the novelty. I STILL somehow get around to listening to them once in a while.

First like the ladies on Sex & The City I am single and childless by choice though I love my nephews and nieces and the best part?? I give them right back to my sister and brother!! Ha! Ha!:lol:

I thought Wings didn't go out like a Seinfeld, MASH, The Fugitive, Cheers, Newhart, I Love Lucy, Andy Griffith Show, go out on top begging for more also Mary Tyler Moore. Wings was at the bottom of the ratings when it went to rerun heaven.

Though Sex & The City is pretty interesting, do you all worry that kids could be watching and learning about sex and parents aren't aware of how sex talk on the show is "teaching sex without marriage" is ok for kids because "everybody does it!!" BTW, I am a virgin and will stay that way!! And BTW, I love my single life and independence but hey everybody is different!!

So, what DO you think about all that stuff that goes on at alt.support.childfree? Well, that is if you visit. Doesn't it seem like some of those people will purposely go to any length to be near a child just so they can complain about it online? Really, I don't hate children, I just don't need to DEAL with them.

I kind of liked the idea becuase extra money appeals to me and I spend a lot of it and, I just cannot support a kid if I'm into splurging. Plus, it's hard on future education if one has a child right out of High School and I'm seeing alot of girls my age trying to get preggers just because children are the new accessory all of a sudden. Yeah, sure, until your dear boyfriend becomes a deadbeat and leaves you for the honey blonde Britney in his science class...

Anyway, I still can't understand Sex and the City, just because it's too annoying to really watch.
When they start making shows about women and their shoe obsessions and their whiny friends, you know that TV executives are off the deep end.

I feel the same way you do about kids. Kids are great for other people but I don't think I would have the patience. I'm sure my parents aren't too thrilled about the thought they may never be grandparents from me. I already had 4 kids, the four-legged kind, and that's enough for me.

Plus you talked about the extra money you have and I have quite a bit saved up, too, and I really don't want to spend it on a crib, baby seat, baby clothes, formula, a stroller, diapers, etc. I'm just very selfish. I also like to come & go as I please, and not have to find a babysitter or spend the money for daycare.

One thing that aggravates me is when I go to the store and I see the way some parents talk to their kids. It takes all I got not to shoot off my mouth and say "Why did you even have kids when you're treating them that badly".

Sometimes I get some grief that I don't have kids. Where is it written that a woman need to have kids at a certain age, and that all women needs to have kids?

At least, I realize I won't have the patience rather than have a kid because it's "the thing to do", and end up treating it the way I see other parents treat theirs.

Hee hee, well let me say one last thing on this wandering thread...

I've never been to that childfree place and I'm certainly not going to go there now! I guess those people think they popped out full-grown? :lol:

Anyway, not having children is certainly fine, I mean, you don't have to have kids to be a "whole person." I'm glad Wings didn't have characters with kids because I don't think you can realistically portray child-rearing on TV, and unless you're going to make a serious attempt at it, don't even bring it up. The Andy Griffith show, IMO, was one show that actually handled the child-in-the-house situation much better than most shows. Granted, Opie was a little too-good-to-be-true sometimes, but at least they dealt with the child and also included him in the comedy effectively.

Now, to real life. #1, when you decide to have sex, you've basically decided to have a baby, because the best laid plans of ... well, you know the rest. #2, you feel completely differently about your own babies than you feel about other peoples', and along with that comes a great deal of love and patience you didn't have before, along with this ferocious beast of maternal/paternal protectiveness that never existed in you before, either. #3, having a baby and raising a child is never what you thought it was going to be, so even people with the best intentions about parenting go awry sometimes. The theory and the reality of child-rearing are so completely at odds with each other!

OK, that's it, I think. One last word of advice to you young whipper-snappers: Don't get too attached to the plans you make for yourself... because then life happens. :)

I think Wings is one of the most underrated shows ever. I find that people who say that they don't like Wings, have never seen it. That's what I discover a lot when I ask people about the show.

I just said this on another topic here, but I've known people who hated Wings just because the critics hated it. Some people apparently only watch TV shows that critics love, like it's supposed to make them look smart or something :rolleyes: Personally, I think it makes them look like they're feeble-minded and incapable of thinking for themselves. I rarely pay attention to TV critics and I definitely don't use their opinions to decide whether to watch a show or not. I think it's really narrow-minded to judge a show without watching it a few times for yourself.
