Actually, I think the writers were just trying to focus on the three friends and Mabel didn't like the fact that she was being rather left out. So she left.

yes. she thought the show was centering more on the others. she didn't feel needed.

Well, I heard that she left the show because she was tired of playing the stereotyped "single black mother"

Actually it had to do with Mabel being difficult on the original show & her behind the scenes problems with the original network & producers of that show. Up until then, her health problems were not that serious. This was told to me by the cast a few years ago when I got the chance to meet them in LA. Hope that answered your question!:wave:
