Sry I haven't posted for a long time, but believe me I have a lot to say!!! I saw the Lucy and Desi home movie about a month ago on A&E and was a little confused because I remember reading on this message board that Marcella said that Lucy liked to strip, I didn't hear that on there and at the end they didn't have them kiss in the pool....was it on like the lost interview tape or something???

The version they show on TV is edited to allow for more commercial time, so those parts were cut out. :( I bought my version off the internet a couple years ago, and it says there's footage not shown on TV, and those two scenes you described are in there.

Strip huh? Don't remember that one.

Repressed sexual energy coming out apparently.

Oh my God, is that how rumors get started? Lucy did not LIKE to strip as you put it. Marcella had a miscarriage and there was no consoling her of course, so Lucy went to see her in the hospital and not knowing what she could possibly say to make her feel better, she stripped, this ONE time, as a joke to make her friend laugh, and it WORKED. Marcella laughed for the first time since losing her baby and never forgot Lucy's considerate gesture! And welcome back to the site!

Oh I know the story Splain and I think it was really sweet that she did that and funny too, I was just saying what Marcella said or what I heard she said "that Lucy liked to strip." Anyways though...I like that story and thanx I'm glad to be back and I have alot more stuff to talk about now because I read Love, Lucy and I Loved Lucy and I saw the home movies on TV...which brings me to another topic...how come Desi Jr. didn't say anything about Lucy helping him through his drinking classes and is it just me or did some of the people that they interviewed seemed confused? Because they would say that Lucy would turn on when people were around and then turn off, but yet they said that she would just sit there and smile and not say much???? That is saying two completely different things! Well I'll be back with ore later.

I can see where Desi jr would like to forget what happened with him and alcohol and drugs, but he always says the nicest things about his mother. She didn't have to go there with the rest of the family, but she did, she went to therapy to help him, because after all, she was the first person he called and asked for help from. As for the other thing, i am not sure i get what you are saying. Lucy is known to have been this quiet person who sat in a corner at parties and let other people have the limelight, she only came ON when performing. She wasn't Lucy Ricardo in real life, she was the opposite, quiet and conservative, although everybody says she did Lucy like things sometimes. Another thing to remember is some of these people who tell stories are remembering things from fifty years ago, so it's understandable that these stories would be different depending on who is telling them.

Yeah, I guess I got confused. Sorry. And I know that Desi Jr. said tons of wonderful things about his mother....remember my first post was the article in Women's Day Magazine. I don't understand why Lucie doesn't have much nice things too say it makes me so ad sometimes...I mean come on Desi Jr. and her had the same mom and lived under the same roof, right? So why doesn't she have anything nice to say?? Ugh!

For some reason Desi jr was Lucy's pride and joy while Desi was hooked on his little girl, happens in the best of families. Also, Lucy liked to have everything HER WAY, and Lucie was not afraid to stand up to her, which many times caused friction. Lucie has to learn to let go of all that emotional baggage from childhood, but that's much easier said than done. I remember many stories of their behavior while Lucie as growing up. Kids who become your friend just to meet your mom or to see the house, that has to be devestating for a young girl or any kid for that matter. A strict mother who watched your school work constantly as opposed to a dad you only saw at vacation time and did only FUN things. A mother who was concerned with appearances as opposed to a father who couldn't care less. Having to spend your life as little Lucie as opposed to Big Lucy. Being shy but having a brother who was anything but. Ever see her as a kid, she looked like Carol Burnett in a bad sketch, on a recent Password i just watched. BUT, and it's a very big BUT, she has blossomed into a great beauty, raising five kids and managing a home and a farm, doing Broadway shows and a cabaret act. Maybe some of the problem was that she is very much like her mother, a big bundle of talent bursting at the seems, but with much inner conflict seething inside.

I never thought aout that until you posted it, but you're right. One person did say she was quiet at parties and another one said she was on when people were around. Good observation there 1Lucyfan.

A kiss in the pool??? I remember the pool footage, but I don't remember a kiss -- and I have the full unedited version on tape. Did I miss something?

I don't recall a kiss either; just that they were in the pool with Simon, Lucy approaches Desi and she messes up his hair

Oh...sorry I read it somewhere...I thought on this message board but I guess not. And thanx for explaining that to me Splain, it helped me understand better. And Lodee...I know didn't that seem like what they were saying? But, oh well. TTYL

I also understand what you're saying. :) I remember in the Home Movies Jim Bacon saying, "Lucy was always very quiet....Lucy'd make a comment now and then, but Desi was the star of that house," and then Susie Meyer said that she remembered Lucy being very "on" when people were around and then very "off" when people weren't around, like she had an "on/off switch." Susie Meyer was also the one who said, "I don't believe Lucille had the tools to nurture--they just weren't there for her."...

Yeah, she's listed as a family friend, sounds more like an enemy to me. Lucy's own mom never did anything normal with her either, she was busy working to provide food and shelter. Lucy was busy being the best comedienne the world ever knew and then putting on a few shows and running a little studio that employed thousands. BUT, even with all that, she always found time for her kids, raised them properly, better than the average Hollywood family, taught them values and provided them with a future, giving them employment and now they never have to work again because of her NURTURING skills. Like Lucie said in the Home movies, real life is not like Father knows best or any other average tv comedy show from the fifties.

I think "lucy & desi: a home movie" was the best documentary ever made. I was a little displeased with how quickly it ended though. I guess i wanted it to be 6 hours or something. I know they have so much more footage that they didn't show, everything from lucy and desi in the 50's to lucy and desi in the 80's. If only i could get my hands on it somehow.... I know it's most likely personal family items though.

It is my favorite documentary ever on Lucy, and yes it should have been twice as long, great from beginning to end, no wonder it won the Emmy that year!
