(see this users gallery) Alex McKenna plays Mickey Apple, the 14-year-old daughter of Gillian Apple, who delights in tormenting her younger brother Travis in Touchstone Television's "You Wish," a new half-hour comedy for ABC.
The 12-year-old actress made her big-screen debut as Tom Arnold's daughter Petunia in "The Stupids," and followed it with a starring feature-film role in "Campfire Horror Stories" (working title). Last spring, she co-starred with Patrick Duffy in the telefilm "Heart of Fire." Most recently, McKenna starred in the theatrical release "Joey," in which two teens try to save a baby kangaroo. She will also be seen in the telepic "Safety Patrol," starring Leslie Nielsen and Bug Hall, part of the new TV season of "The Wonderful World of Disney."
McKenna's career began at the age of seven, when she was named National Spokesperson for the Children's Earth Fund. In this capacity, she traveled to Washington, D.C., to meet (then-Senator) Al Gore. He was so impressed by her that he asked her to join him on "The Phil Donahue Show" for a discussion about what children can do to help preserve the environment.
From there, McKenna went on to a co-starring role on the series "Winnetka Road" with Ed Begley Jr. and Meg Tilly. Other series credits include a recurring role on "Middle Ages," with Peter Reigert, and as a regular on "The Trouble with Larry."
In addition to her film and television credits, McKenna also starred in "Star Scouts," a children's Christmas video series, and she provides the voice of Albert on the "Precious Moments" (III, IV, and V) home video releases.
This versatile young actress made her stage debut in 1995 as Scout in the critically acclaimed Los Angeles production of "To Kill a Mockingbird," with Bruce Davison. Not only did her performance earn her rave reviews, but she became the first child actor to receive the Annual Dramalogue Award.
McKenna lives in Los Angeles with her parents, two sisters, and three dogs. |
