Super Dave's Vegas Spectacular aired from January until February 1995 on the USA Cable Network
Slapstick sitcom about a disaster-prone stunt man. Super Dave ( Bob Eistein) was the owner of the big, glitzy Rio Hotel in Las Vegas , where each week he made plans to stage a spectacular stunt. Mishaps abounded as preparations took place, as Super and those around him were blown up, flattened, electricuted, and otherwise mangled ( never with any lasting effects). Sandi( Jennifer Grant) was Super's eagar young public relations manager, Donald ( Don Lake) the goofball hotel manager, Fugi ( Art Irizawa) the incompetent stunt coordinator, Mike ( Mike Walden) the old-fashioned announcer, Morty ( Keith MacKechnie) an agent who kept pitching Super ridiculous acts, Guenter and Hans ( Hans Tester, John Forristal)a screwball animal act, and Tommy ( Mike MacDonald), a gambling obsessed USA Network executive. All seemed totally oblivious to the chaos, while tall, grinning Super Dave remained resplendent, and totally self-absorbed, in his gleaming white jumpsuit.
The Super Dave character had a long history. Writer/performer Bob Einstein created him in 1976 for the short-lived Van Dyke & Company, then continued the character on the Showtime sketch comedy Bizarre ( 1979-1985) and in his own Super Dave series on Showtime from 1987 to 1992 ( Fugi and Mike Waldon also appeared on the series). He also appeared as Super Dave on Late Night with David Letterman, in commercials and elsewhere. Just don't get too close to him when he's setting up a stunt.
