Kenan & Kel aired from July 1996 until December 1999 on Nickelodeon.
Two goofy black Chicago teens schemed and dreamed in this slapstick sitcom, which was reminiscent of the '70s hit What's Happening!! Kenan ( Kenan Thompson), the chubby one, was the chief schemer , and Kel ( Kel Mitchell) his good-looking tagalong buddy. Kenan worked part-time at Rigby's convienience store , where he caused endless problems for his nervous boss, Mr. Potter ( Dan Frischman), who twitched a lot as a result. Roger ( Ken Foree) was Kenan's stern dad, an air traffic controller; and Sheryl ( Teal Marchande) his businesslike mom. Kyra ( Vanessa Baden), his little sister delighted on snitching on her older brother, but harbored a not -so-secret crush on clueless Kel.
Kena & Kel were previously seen on Nickelodeon's variety show All That and by 1997 they'd become so popular that they starred in their own summer feature film, Good Burger. They opened each episode of this sitcom doing a standup bit in front of a curtain, before introducing the night's story. Wonder if they realize how old that device was ( shades of Jack Benny and George Burns)?
