The Ugliest Girl in Town aired from September 1968 until January 1969 on ABC.
This asinine sitcom had a male star dressed in women's clothes as its running gag.The situation was all very logical, though somewhat far-fetched. It seemed that young Hollywood talent agent Timothy Blair ( Peter Kastner) had fallen madly in love with an English starlet named Julie ( Patricia Blake), while Julie was in town making a film. Then she flew back to London, and Timothy did not have the money to follow. Enter Timothy's brother Gene ( Garry Marshall, not the famed sitcom producer of the same name), a professional photographer assigned to shoot pictures of San Francisco hippies for a London magazine. At the last moment Gene's pictures were accidentally destroyed and in desperation he dressed Timothy in a wig and hippie outfit and took pictures of him to send to London. London liked the pictures so much that they wanted that "girl"-for a major "Twiggy"-style moddeling assignment.
Timothy ( now dubbed "Timmie") went along with the ruse because it meant free airplane fair to England and his Julie, but once there he was faced with the necessity of maintaining the put-on in all sorts of awkward situations. What to do in a nude scene?
In almost less time than it took to explain all this, The Ugliest Girl in Town was on and off the ABC schedule.
