The Smothers Brother Show aired from September 1965 until September 1966 on CBS.
This first of the several series starring brothers Tom and Dick Smothers was a half-hour situation comedy in which they played themselves.
As a rising young executive at Pandora Publications, working for publisher Leonard J. Costello ( Roland Winters), Dick Smothers should have been enjoying the life of a prosperous bachelor. But one little thing kept getting in the way -his brother Tom. Not in ordinary ways, either. Tom had been lost at sea and two years later showed up as an apprentice angel, assigned to do good works on Earth to become a full-fledged regular angel. His efforts to help people did not always seem to work out the way he had planned, and he was forever seeking the aid of his earthly brother to help bail him out of some blunder he had created. Also featured on this show was Harriet MacGibbon as Mrs. Costello, the bosses wife, Marilyn Scott as their daughter Diane, and Ann Elder as Janet, Dick's girlfriend.Neither of the Smothers Brothers was happy with the show; both felt that the situation comedy format was not the right showcase for their talents. The filmed series was originally produced by Phil Sharp for Four Star Films.
