Poster: Stuck In The '70's  (see this users gallery)

A New Kind Of Family aired from September 1979 until January 1980 on ABC.

In this comedy, Kit Flanagan ( Eileen Brennan), recently widowed, decided to pack up her 3 children, Andy, Hillary and Tony ( David Hollander, Lauri Hendler, Rob Lowe), and move from her native New York to Los Angeles. They had rented a house sight unseen, but when they got there they found that someone else had rented it too: divorcee Abby Stone ( Gwynne Gilford) and her daughter Jill ( Connie Ann Hern). Since neither the Flanagans nor the Stones could afford the place by themselves, they all moved in together-despite the very different lifestyles of cynical, free-swinging Kit and conservative, by-the-book ( Dr. Spock) Abby. The kids loved the arrangement, especially early adolescents Hillary and Jill, who were the same age. Mr. Zimmerman ( Chuck McCann) was the landlord, who also had his own tv show, and Heinz was the family pooch ( played by " O.J.").

The series was an instant flop and was pulled from the schedule after only a few weeks. It returned briefly in December-January with new episodes, in which the Stones had been replaced by Jess Ashton ( Telma Hopkins) and her daughter JoJo ( Janet Jackson).
