Mr. Terrific aired from January until August 1967 on CBS.
A scientist both wise and bold set out to cure the common cold
Instead he found a power pill which he said most certainly will
Change a lamb into a lion like an eagle he'll be flyin'
Solid steel will be like putty it'll work on anybody.
Then it was found this power pill made the strongest men quite ill
So the secret search began to find the one and only man
Who can take this power pill specific?
And turn into the most prolific, terrific, Mr. Terrific!
What they found made them squeamish for only Stanley Beamish
A weak and droopy daffodil can take this potent power pill
That sent him soaring through the skies fighting foes and fighting spies.
When he took the pill specific, He became the most prolific, hydrolific,
Mr. Terrific!
Mr. Terrific Theme Song
Stanley Beamish ( Stephen Strimpell), was a young gas station attendant whose partner at the station, as well as his best friend and roommate, was Hal Walters ( Dick Gautier). Stanley did have one secret that he kept from Hal - with the aid of special top-secret power pills, he could turn into the caped crime fighter, Mr. Terrific.
The pills had been developed by the Bureau of Secret Projects, a special government agency. BSP chief Barton J. Reed ( John McGiver)sent Stanley on his missions and and supplied him with the power pills. A power pill would give him extraordinary abilities good for only about one hour each. In emergencies, he could take two booster pills, each good for an extra 20 minutes of super powers but after that, he reverted back to normal.
Stanley was a nice, soft-spoken, naive guy who was the only person on whom the pills worked. This was unfortunate for the BSP as they were looking for someone a little more aggressive to do the crime fighting! His efforts to serve his government were notable, but not always what Mr. Reed would have liked. Stanley was too gullible, to considerate and too preoccupied to pay attention to the time limits of his powers. He had a disturbing inclination for returning to normal at the most inopportune times!
Jack Arnold produced the series, which should not be confused with Captain Nice, a similar spoof that ran on NBC at the same time( Strimpell had tested for Captain Nice before landing the role on Mr. Terrific).
