Mr. Smith Goes To Washington ran from September 1962 until March 1963 on ABC.
While starring as Davy Crockett in the mid 1950's, Fess Parker was at one point called upon to portay Crockett as a rustic represenative to the United States Congress. In this series Parker once again headed for Washington, this time in contemporary garb, but with the same low-keyed, homespun approach to national-and family-politics and problems. Freshman Senator Eugene Smith ( Parker) and his wife Pat ( Sandra Warner), were from a small town, and they used the homilies of Middle America to cope with urban, political Washington. Arnie ( Stan Irwin) was Senator Smith's chauffeur, Uncle Cooter ( Red Foley), his philosophical, guitar-strumming uncle, and Miss Kelly( Rita Lynn) his secretary.
