Family Rules aired from March until April 1999 on UPN.
Nate (Greg Evigan), was a widower rasing 4 daughters in suburban Baltimore in this formula comedy. He was the basketball coach at nearby, Morgan College, although virtually all the activity in this series took place at home with his kids. Hope ( Maggie Lawson), was the sexy popular blond senior; Ann ( Shawna Waldron), the smart responsible one; C.J.( Andi Eystad), the adventurous tomboy sports junkie; and Lucy ( Brooke Garrett), the impressionable pre-teen. Phil ( Markus Redmund), Nate's best friend and neighbor, was a freelance magazine writer who worked at home. He was a frequent visitor in the Harrison household, giving generally helpful advice to Nate and his daughters. There was plenty of good natured sibling rivalry, and Nate worked at being a sensitive, understanding father, but he was a little overwhelmed by the women in his life.

'FAMILY RULES' STAR RECALLS STOP-START YEAR
By RICHARD HUFF

To be sure, the road to getting tonight's UPN sitcom "Family Rules" on the air has been a long one.
The show, which stars Greg Evigan ("My Two Dads") as a widowed college basketball coach coping with four daughters, was developed this time last year. UPN execs passed on the show for their fall lineup, but did order six episodes to be produced as a midseason series. They were produced, and then they sat, waiting for a time slot.
Tonight at 8:30, nearly a year after it was conceived, "Family Rules" arrives.
"It was a good script. It gets a little homogenized, but it maintains most of what it had in the beginning," Evigan told The News. "It's a family values type of story."
Having shot only six episodes, Evigan said the cast and crew were just beginning to fire on most cylinders when it was time to halt production.
"I think we were starting to feel it," he said. "Unfortunately, it's been a choppy, little bumpy road. I'm hoping we get a chance to get in stride. If we get picked up again, everybody will really start getting in stride."
The bumps, he said, were mostly due to the dragged-out production process.
Still, he noted, the timing was good in that the script came around when he was available.
"You can wait around forever to try to get something you think is right for you," he said. "But it always seems life hands you surprises."
For Evigan, "Family Rules" is the latest job in an acting career that has included roles in such series as "All That Glitters," "P.S. I Luv You" and "B.J. and the Bear." His first sitcom, was the 1977 flop "A Year at the Top," with Paul Shaffer.
"Man, I'll tell you, nobody was laughing," he recalled of that series. "There was no worse feeling than to be in that situation."
Of course, he's hoping for better things with "Family Rules."
