Capitol Critters aired from January until March 1992 on ABC.
Steven Bochco. a producer knowwn for some of television's bolder experiments ( Hill Street Blues, Cop rock), was responsible for this satiric cartoon about mice, rats, and roaches living under the White House. The central character was max( voiced by Neil Patrick Harris who was then starring in Bochco's Doogie Howser M.D.), a friendly Nebraska field mouse whose family had been wiped out by exterminators and who then came to Washington to live with his cousin Berkely(Jennifer Darling). Besides Berkely, an unrepentant 60's radical, his new world included Muggle ( Bobcat Goldthwait), a lab rat prone to spontaneous combustion and other unexpected reactions due to the tests done on him; Moze ( Dorian Harewood), a streetwise roach who befriended him; Jammett ( Charlie Adler), a headstrong teenage pack-rat; and Trixie ( Pattie Deutsch), Jammett's world-weary mother.
Stories were a mix of social commentary on such issues as gun control, interracial violence, and political corruption, and Tom and Jerry chases as the critters, dodged exterminators and the ever-present but fortunately fat and incompetent Presidential cats.
