Poster: Stuck In The '70's
(see this users gallery) Masqerade was a spy series that ran from December 1983 until April 1984 on ABC.(Description). The National Intelligence Agency had a problem. Most of its top agents had suddenly been "neutralized" by the KGB, and NIA chief Lavender ( Rod Taylor) needed new recruits quickly with skills as varied as those of a plumber, a diamond expert, a safecracker, and an electrictronics wizard-ordinary citizens whom he persuaded to serve their country as spies-for-a-week. Lavender's superiors thought this a bit irregular, but they had little choice, so each week a new group of Americans with diverse skills was pressed into service chasing foreign agents around the globe; this week they might include a dog trainer or race-car driver, next week a baseball star. Casey and Danny ( Kirstie Alley, Greg Evigan), were Lavender's young assistants who helped keep this unusual package tour together and get everyone home safe and sound after their little adventures with poison darts and stilettos in dark alleyways. Each week began with Lavender with his gun in his hand, turning to the tv audience and saying: "The United States Of America would like to invite you...to come spy with me." |
