Denver Pyle was born on May 11, 1920 in Bethune, Colorado. After serving in WWll, pyle became an actor appearing in many minor film roles through out the 1950's.He was originally cast as Matt Dillon on Gunsmoke before James Arness got the job. Regardless he guest starred on many episodes of Gunsmoke as well as Bonanza and appeared in many John Wayne films of the late 1950's and early 1960's. He appeared as Briscoe Darling on The Andy Griffith Show and later appeared on The Doris Day Show (1968-1970), The Life And Times Of Grizzly Adams(1977-1978), and The Dukes Of Hazzard (1979-1985). He received his star on The Hollywood Walk Of Fame just 2 weeks before his death of lung cancer on December 25, 1997. He was 77.
