Cheerful comedy about 3 sexy NY career girls living in a swank penthouse apartment they can barely afford, and out to snare rich husbands by any scheme they can concoct. The series was based on the hit 1953 movie of the same name, with Barbara Eden as Loco, the dim-witted blonde who was so nearsighted she kept walking into walls( the Marilyn Monroe role); Lori Nelson as Greta, the breezy manhunter ( Betty Grable); and Merry Anders as Mike the ringleader of the group( Lauren Bacall). The names of the girls were somewhat different in the film ( Pola, Loco, Schatz), but the glamorous gold-digging theme was the same.Apart from their personal lives, Loco was a model, Greta, a hostess of a tv quiz show called " Go For Broke" and Mike a secretary for a stockbroker on wallstreet.
This half-hour syndicated show was popular in the markets where it was shown but like many syndicated shows before and after, it suffered from a general lack of visibility and promotion as well as a steady sponsor. However the 3 stars did appear on many regional TV Guide covers in the early part of 1959 as well as a cover feature fluff piece in a magazine called " TV Headliners" in May of that year,
Lori Nelson had publicly stated that she considered herself to be the star of the show. She acknowledged that Merry Anders had been around for awhile but that Anders was not as well known as she. She began thinking that the television medium was beneath her and she quit the show after the first season. She was written out as having married and moved away.( Lori Nelson's character Greta didn't marry a millionaire). She was replaced by Lisa Gaye as Gwen Kirby who worked at a magazine. The series was finally canceled after its second season but it ran for several more years in reruns in various markets. As for Lori Nelson, she was never heard from again ( she was married for a time to musician Johnny Mann),but has never done another tv series or movie; Lisa Gaye and Merry Anders who had a bit part in the 1953 movie-didn't fare much better after this series ( Anders last film was Women Of The Pre-Historic Planet in 1966). However Barbara Eden went on to tv stardom in the long running I Dream Of Jeannie (1965-1970), and later Harper Valley P.T.A.( 1981-1982).
