(see this users gallery) Original caption: Television comedian Jackie Gleason, shown with part of the bevy of beauties in his show, said December 20th he has "as good as signed" a three-year contract with the Columbia Broadcasting System and the Buick Division of General Motors. "The total deal is for $17,000,000," said Gleason. It would pay his company, Gleason Enterprises, $11,000,000, the rest of the money going to the broadcasting company for the time. Described as "the biggest financial deal in TV history," the as yet unsigned contract calls for 39 filmed half-hour shows of The Honeymooners, a comedy sketch which began as a small part of the Gleason show and which features Audrey Meadows and Art carney. Meanwhile, comic Milton Berle, who is presently sponsored by Buick, is reported, "not worried at all about this," and his manager, Irving Fray, indicates "there are people around offering Milton that amount too. |
