February 19 Prince is scheduled to appear (perform?) on Tavis Smiley's show airing on PBS, and rumor has it he'll be joined by Wendy Melvoin (of Wendy & Lisa fame). Wendy hadn't spoken to Prince in nine years. Prince, visiting Nikka Costa during recording sessions for her album, found out Wendy was recording in the studio next door and asked her to join him for an acoustic set in L.A. I guess we'll see if it's true on the Tavis Smiley show next week.
Humm, Prince's mere presence makes this show a must see, because Prince rarely makes TV show appearance.
You said Wendy Melvoin might join Prince on the show. I wonder where Lisa is? It is weird to see Wendy without Lisa. It is like seeing Jimmy Jam without Terry. Though I have some solo Jimmy Jam interviews.
It is the 20th Anniversery of Purple Rain. There is a Purple Rain documentory in the works. 2004 is going to be a naljatljec Prince/Purple Rain year.

Not that I ever stopped, but sometimes I have to see him to be reminded how cool he is. Most of his appearance on the Tavis Smiley show was an interview segment, he talked about the business, and spirituality. He said he was a fan of Beyonce so he didn't mind her performing with him on the Grammy's. Then he sang a new song called "Reflections" with Wendy from the Revolution playing guitar with him. It was cool seeing those two side by side again. They then showed some of a new music video he did called "Musicology". He mentioned he has a new album coming out, so I'm not sure if he's going to concentrate on Purple Rain's 20th anniversary so much this year, he didn't really bring it up. Anyway, it was great to see him. He's supposed to be on the Tonight show in a week or two, then the R n' R hall of fame next month.

is the new album going to be more mainstream ala Emancipation/Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic, or will it be more along the likes of N.E.W.S and Rainbow Children?

Judging by the "Musicology" video they showed, it'll be more mainstream. The song sounded radio-ready, in a good way. The song he performed with Wendy was a good song too.
